Rumor: inFamous: Second Son is a PS4 launch title

I think one thing needs mentioning about the franchise is while the visual upgrade from 1 to 2 was significant, one thing that I completely overlooked was that SP devoted quite a large amount of time doing in-engine cutscenes (besides the comic book styled ones). And my goodness, they not only look fantastic but their lip sync animations are at par with what ND does. I do not know if they hand animate it like ND but the results are spectacular.

I restarted playing the game since yesterday from the beginning since 2011.

No wonder when the protagonists says, "You're not in control" it looks so dark realistic.

They may be using ND's performance capture studio. I'd be kind of torn on the loss of comic style cutscenes. I thought the art was great and suited inFamous quite well but a good in engine cutscene can be great and nowhere near as jarring to move into from gameplay.

With the exception of Deep Down, Square, and Media Molecule's projects, I expect that all the titles shown at the PS Meeting to be launch/launch window.

But ND does their faces by hand D:

I, much like yourself, adore the comic book style art. It lends the game a certain personality. With inF2 I think they reached a good compromise between the two styles of plot delivery. I do hope that they continue down this path with Second Son (given it is from the same franchise).

This thread needs the god damn picture of the protagonist, Delsin Rowe (a strange name making me wonder if it is an anagram...)

True but the studio was set up to be used by several of Sony's studios so I'm sure they have the capabilities for facial capture. ND is also pretty close with SP so they may have given them some animation tips.

I love how the characters' lips (especially Cole's) purses and flexes. I do not know if they do it by hand because even as a pure facial capture, I have seen less than perfect results (a la Halo 4, except Cortana). ND's hand animated faces were a revelation to me and unfortunately I do not know if anyone from SP is either a member here or if they do AMA (ask me anything) sessions because I would definitely love to know how they went from inF1 which, frankly, can't hold a candle to the second one in that regard.

Here's a clip from Uncharted 3 (spoilers, ye've warned).

And now one from inF2 (same applies; ye be warned).

And the same applies with Second Son.

The lack of dead eyes coupled with impeccable facial animation and lip sync. It looks normal, natural.

I can safely say that I have never been less worried about SP's technical adeptness as much I am worried about the story and characters. I want to face antagonists who are not cardboard cut-outs, rather multi-faceted broken, fallen, demented characters with a bit of history. Let it be more like inFAMOUS 1.

Two good things are that they the plot they've chosen to exploit (akin to 4400, Heroes, Being Human in certain ways) is intriguing and the main character doesn't suffer from genre trope, aka, amnesia and is rather an obnoxious individual (given his belief in himself to be destined for something huge), who more often than not would be portrayed as a villain in other games.

Agreed on all points. I have really high hopes for this one considering how much they improved things going from inFamous 1 to 2. I just hope that there aren't any characters as obnoxious as Nix in this one.

Indeedy. Although i still hope for some nice new ip-s
They'll come. SSM (Stig's team) is rumored to be working on a shooter for a while, MM is working on something, Guerrilla has a team that has been working on a new IP (rumored to be a Fantasy WRPG) for a while, and Ready at Dawn is also rumored to be working on a new PS4 exclusive IP. If there's one thing Sony never had a shortage of this gen, it was new 1st/2nd party IPs and with 3rd party exclusives becoming practically nonexistent, I don't see that trend changing.

well they can't just poop a game in 10 months.

SSM fucked up,they should've focused on making a game for PS4 (and make it fresh and new) like the other studio instead of that horrible God of War: Ascension(that killed the series in UK and most likely will bomb in the US too)now SSM will most likely be missing PS4 first two years thank to that bad decision from Shu Yoshida,it's almost the same mistake as GOW2 on PS2 instead of PS3 but at least GOW2 was pretty good unlike GOWA.

Santa Monica has 2 teams, the main team is working on a new IP for PS4 since they finished God of War 3. Also Ascension wasn't a waste, it was probably easier to develop as they wanted to make use of the God of War 3 engine for another game, heck they even reused some enemies and animation. Also like God of War 2 for PS2 they can always re-release the game for PS4. I can imagine a Ultra HD Collection of GoW3 and Ascention for PS4 in 1080p and 60FPS.

Are the Call of Duty and Assassin's Creed gamers really going to shell out $400 to play a prettier version of those same games? Especially if PS4 launches in November and those games are already out in their current gen form and possibly on Durango too. To me that sounds like a recipe for a Wii U like reception.

I'm pretty sure COD can be considered a system seller. Whether it's on a previous console or not, it sells 20+ million every year. I'd imagine a lot of people would want to get the best version of COD if they can afford it.

I've been in love with the franchise since I played the original game's demo so I was really pleasantly surprised to see Second Son at the PS Meeting.
The sorta-almost reboot while keeping the universe and certain elements of the other games is exactly what I wanted. It'd be a perfect launch game.

I really would prefer that they ditch the morality system altogether though. I know that it's a franchise staple and isn't going anywhere but I can't help but feel it damages SP's ability to tell a great story. Especially with it damaging the character's upgrades if you don't choose the same moral every decision. Just give me one great, canonical story that they don't need to fit around the blunt system they have in place. Maybe have some more interesting, greyer moral quandaries in side missions and less pivotal plot moments.

it all depends on the price, if it is priced OK, both PS4 and 720 will sell really good. I cant really understand people who think they will get "same" games, they wont.

Are you Peter Moore or John Richt? So it won't sell 5 millions like GOW3 so it killed the series?
The EA mentality is spreading, I also liked how you brushed over the fact that is the second best selling GOW game ever in the UK.

Also Ascension had the second highest debut in the series in both the UK and Japan, so there's no way it killed off the franchise. It's just that GoW3 was THAT highly anticipated.

I guess that would depend on what you expect from these crossgen ports as far as improvements go. I think Call of Duty is a system seller but I don't think Call of Duty in 1080p/60fps with some enhanced textures is going to do much to convince the mass market to spend $400+ on a PS4.

It's been mentioned but a surprise reveal of full game at E3 wouldn't be out of the question with an announcement of it being ready for launch. The more they first party they can pack in there the better.

Here's the poster image with New Soldier (thanks Cels) in his predatory pose (large picture: 2048x1479):

Note, the more astounding part is that Delsin's model as seen here is in all likelihood the same one used in-engine (i.e. used by the trailer).

I know a game in a franchise that sold 20+ (30+?) million last generation but is not really a system seller on the 1st console of the 8th generation.

You talking about the New Super Mario Bros. series?

Oui.

As aforementioned, I finally restarted playing inF2 and while I know that there are parodies of games as movie names. I wasn't expecting to come across something like this (LFMAO):

Hopefully, SS will have parodies of other pop culture related things as well.

Since SS is set in Seattle, I wonder if they would model their development studio in Bellevue in the game.

I hope the game includes all of these meetings as a behind the scenes video. They're probably talking about their next public reveal/demo.

I know I'm going to get blasted, but I feel like they can't get the character designs right in this series. The game play is fun, but the characters seem awkward. This new second son type seems like they aren't trying to improve their character deigns either.

They got it right with that redesigned Cole from inFAMOUS 2.

I'm in the camp that liked their first attempt on the character for the second game. I'm still very interested though in what they come up with.

They just went from one generic looking character to another so I'm definitely happy they stuck with the look from the first game for continuity sake but I don't like either character design. The new character for SS definitely has a lot more going for it imo.

I really don't think this look was all that generic and I definitely preferred it to the final Frankenstein Cole that looks nothing like the original either:

Overall, I think Deslin's design is really nice as well, plus it is pretty detailed.

Ugh! Both versions of Cole were dull but I still enjoyed the story of inFamous enough to give a damn about the change. I still see a generic looking bloke with both designs but I guess if you give a character hair it makes him more appealing. Funnily enough we haven't seen Deslin's head yet which is definitely a good call by SP, I wonder if it's for story reasons or they're still gouging response to get him right the first time instead of having their pants down for the sequel again.

Well you can tell that he's got longish black hair. I dunno how much seeing the rest of his head would affect his appearance. For all we know, he could spend the entire game without taking his beanie off.
