The Street Fighter's Guide to Smash

I don't know if this is actually good or not but it was on Crosscounter's site so, maybe?

It's pretty well made and only covers the very basic ideas of the mechanics in Smash. It's meant to be more accessible and more of an introduction to the game for those unfamiliar with it. There's a group that's working on completely redoing the Advanced How to Play in modern times production values for those more interested in actually learning things in-depth, but that'll take some time as you can probably tell just from the length of the original alone. :p

The FGC is on a decline (or on the verge of a decline) in general IMO. Numbers will probably go down more then flatten out somewhere until the next wave of huge-name fighters (SF5, etc) come in a year or four.

I think this year's Evo will see growth though.

A good chunk of people who went to the clusterf**k that was last year's FR probably swore never to come again. This year's FR is a lot more well organized so I'll expect the numbers to rise next year.

It was Easter and numbers going down are expected since we're at the end of a generation and there's nothing new, it's just part of the course, I wouldn't worry.
EVO is trying to become more than a mere fighting game tourney, with a lot of side stuffs which makes it more like an expo and I think it's a great way to attract casual visitors/viewers.

I think the route EVO is taking is fucking awesome.

PAX had a similar sort of course of growth from when it started, just much quicker.

The more panels, the more publishers getting involved, and the more accessible it's becoming for noncompetitors while still caring the same about competitors is only a good thing. This upcoming EVO is looking like it's going to be the biggest and best yet.

And even still with EVO, I saw FR viewer numbers peak at like 27k during SF.

Easter affected things for sure, but the FGC is in for a general downturn sooner rather than later unless there are game changing in the works that people just don't know about.

I had a dream last night. There was a slutty woman named JRosa hanging out in the woods near an active volcano. After having sex with every person in the area, she goes into the volcano and builds a city of glass and forms a pokemon gym. I think the rabbit from Rise of the Guardians was there.

I don't see the indicators of that outside of next generation consoles coming out, which is a slight hit you kind of have to take before the install base grows enough and TOs get enough set ups.

EVO is only getting bigger.
More, bigger sponsors are getting involved, with growing pot bonuses.
Stream numbers are growing, production is only getting better.
The FGC is only getting more and more mainstream exposure.
At least one of the next generation consoles has built-in streaming functionality, something that led to the explosion of the fighting game scene over the past gen.
Players are travelling more and being compensated with more.

I think things might stabilize, but I don't see indicators of a downturn.

Fanatiq really took that sponsorship way too serious, I mean I bet it wasn't in the contract to constantly push their products but he did. Maybe he gets some extra money the more people use his code?

Evo is growing, but the actual competitive scene is not. Numbers are down from last year for almost every major. Stream numbers and sponsors don't really matter unless you really want the FGC to turn esports, where 90% of the scene is only viewers.

It's so funny thinking back to last year's events, even as late as CEO and EVO, and all the talk was anti-Phoenix tech.

How times change.

Wasn't there a raging demon in SF EX+alpha? Maybe evil ryu or something? It's been so long

Plenty actually.

E. Ryu, Akuma & Sakura & Shadow Geist all have a version of it.

Hokuto uses the command in her Blood Lust form. Has the startup of a RD but it isn't actually but it looks like it hurts.

Skullomania has multiple versions of it in EX3 depending on button presses and sheer randomness.

One of the best RD's does come from that series that being Kairi's EX2\EX3 version.

The command is used heavily for moves that don't actually activate a RD like Chun's Gomen Ne Taunt for example.

Other picks would be Shadow Lady (MvC1), God Rugal (CvS2), Yuri (KOF 2001) and Hayato/Black Hayato (Star Gladiator 2/Marvel 2).

A better Capcom April Fool's would've been a reverse Sheng Long prank. Meet the conditions and you can lock Vergil out of Marvel.

Those pot bonuses will go away if they don't make new games, which the big boys aren't doing right now.

I do think we're headed for a downturn, but not a new dark ages. We got enough folks to keep things alive for years- and we are going to get new games. As long as SF5 gets the 09ers and a new crop, things will be fine long-term. And yes, alt-fighters need SF to do well, because folks get tired of SF eventually and look for new games.

I do think the PC is going to be important next-gen for FGs. That's the next step. It's a big reason I"ve supported Skullgirls despite thinking it's mediocre.

Hey Enzo IFL is actually on Hiaus, though we do have stuff in the works for season 2!
Hope everyone enjoyed this weekend though. Final Round was awesome for everyone that was at the event!

Final Round was definitely one of the best viewings of a major in a long time, no doubt a bout that. Thanks for holding it down for the CPM monsters with those off-stream matches, Art!
