That... is a lot of money.

That's either April Fools or the taxpayers of St. Maarten need to revolt.

Super hype to be going to Canada this weekend. Hopefully the internet gods are kind to me, because this is going to be a dope event. I just tested my new setup this weekend so its looking good!

One day before FR my ISP has major nation wide problem that makes it impossible to watch twitch streams (even on 240p) so that sucked, but now I'm finally caught up with the vods.

Really great event, Spooky and co did a great job stepping up the production from last year's.

Too bad all the GFs for the last 3 games were hype-less one way stomps.

Can't wait till NCR or whatever the next big event is.

I'm trying to watch the archive of last nights Final Round matches but it keeps stuttering. Other videos are playing fine. Is this happening for anyone else?

I always get stuttering when I watch twitch archives. I just pause and unpause a bunch. I think it it has to load up the buffer, as it is loading the whole 12 hour archive, I think.

But I left the window open all night and watched the AE top 8 this morning, and there was still stuttering here and there. Who knows.

Remember, VxG is being funded by their government. I'm sure the budget given to support the tournament is like 7-digits, 50K is nothing.

Those SC5 numbers are disappointing, if it didn't get a spike. In the same league as MK9 which is fairly old and barely above DOA5, when DOA has always had relatively low numbers.
That's actually pretty good for SCV, all things considered, although the community is stronger in the midwest and east coast.

Its still pretty crazy considering Capcom themselves was giving out 25k for SFxT and SF4 at the 25th anniversary tournament. (And the car too, yeah, but still)

Da beech needs to sequester. FGC budgets getting out of control.

The prize pots are too damn high!

That tweet seems very festive to me. 50k match for 3 people that haven't been playing the game at all. I highly doubt it.....but it would be super HYPPEEEEE.

50K money match at da beach. Damn that is a lot of paper.

also mvc2 i wonder how rusty those 3 are.

Actual photo of the prize money

These are the same dudes who are flying out Shang Tsung from the first MK movie just to reenact a scene with fucking Tom Brady. Wouldn't be surprised if the 50k match isn't a joke.

Yesterday or i guess technically today ~2am they were playing MVC2 money matches at the salty suite.

Neo and some other dude with a serv bot costume was playing money matches and neo won around $1000 in a first to 10 wins. He told the entire Lando story about the Paleta cart, shit was so hilarious.

Jwong, Ricky, and Fchamp were also at the suite playing MVC2.

Those pot bonuses will go away if they don't make new games, which the big boys aren't doing right now.

I do think we're headed for a downturn, but not a new dark ages. We got enough folks to keep things alive for years- and we are going to get new games. As long as SF5 gets the 09ers and a new crop, things will be fine long-term. And yes, alt-fighters need SF to do well, because folks get tired of SF eventually and look for new games.

I do think the PC is going to be important next-gen for FGs. That's the next step. It's a big reason I"ve supported Skullgirls despite thinking it's mediocre.
Conversely, do too many new games hurt the industry? People are invested in what they are invested in. They give the new game a twirl and then toss it aside, probably not investing in DLC or later iterations either. We still see WB, Capcom, ASW, Namco and more sponsoring tournaments to this day.

And the big boys are making big games. Injustice is coming out this year, Namco put out both a Soul Calibur AND a Tekken game last year, SFxTK came out last year and we know Capcom has 2+ major fighting games in development. I think there is some truth to the genre being saturated right now, but it's more of a problem for publishers than it is for consumers.

I also disagree that PCs are the future. Again, a logistical nightmare when it comes to also needing a kb/m to set up everything and much more. The idea of fighting games on PCs will become even more ridiculous as Sony (and maybe MS) introduce more streamlined distribution platforms on consoles, blurring the lines between what you can do on PC and what you can do on consoles. Not like it mattered much because the market is on the consoles first anyways. But Capcom have already said they don't see themselves releasing fighting games without PC ports in the future, so that's hope for PC gamers (alongside the architecture of next gen consoles being port-friendly).

Hey Enzo IFL is actually on Hiaus, though we do have stuff in the works for season 2!
Hope everyone enjoyed this weekend though. Final Round was awesome for everyone that was at the event!
Will update OP when I get time, thanks.

Oh man, haunts is killing me
This is even funnier knowing haunts is a Capcop.

Thats a fucking insane amount of money, I wouldn't date guess that high.

Goddamn every time I hear about VxG money hats I just keep thinking about how terrible of an investment it is and how there are a million better ways to spend that marketing money.

GeoNeo

I disagree.
Man Puerto Rico breeds the best Marvel players in the world.

Chris
Flocker
Eduardo
Yipes
RayRay

Every other country is free to this wonderful island.

Good stuff to ChrisG on winning yet another major. The only worthwhile u.s major winning Morri Doom player in the world.

GeoNeo

I disagree.
Aren't Yipes and RayRay Dominican?

Oops you're right.

But yea these islands not only got sick ass baseball players but also marvel. ;D

Biggest thing I came away from this Final Round is how hungry and amazing NYC scene is ATM. RayRay & Moons came into their own this tournament and impressed the hell out of me on how fast they both have levelled up since I seen 'em get bodied by Champ few months back when he was at the house of crack.

Norcal scene is still super strong but more of their top players need to make the trip to these majors.

Socal I still think is pretty damn weak hopefully more of their player base start getting hungry again.

Edit:

Moons is also PR

Wow really? That is pretty godlike.

Yeah, I'd love to see Drew Grimey at more events. And you're right, Moons and RayRay both performed really well this weekend. New York is the place to beat right now.

Injustice: Gods Among Us |OT| Needs more Rorschach

seriously though, it does. Not gonna happen at all, but it does.

Watchmen isn't part of the normal DC universe though. I'm assuming that's why they're not included.

I really dislike the "We don't want to pay for a new version!" thing. This came up with Skullgirls, where people were going to be upset if they labelled a post-DLC update with 4 new chars as "Skullgirls 2." Yes, there are specific cases where there should have been a X-Pack instead of a brand new IP (UMvC3), but the most important thing keeping more FGs being produced isn't how many people enter EVO, it's how many people buy the game. (And in fact, I think MadCatz is actually the most important force w/r/t the tournament scene, since they actively benefit directly from having more players in the competitive scene, since they sell the peripherals and aren't locked down with a single IP.)

The constantly bodying by ChrisG has leveled up NY. Even if they don't all use top tier teams, they basically perform the same as everyone else (which is getting top 8 at a stacked major). If Yipes played at NLBC more his play would've improved as well especially in a tournament setting.

Norcal needs to overhaul their team selection greatly. They basically are in a vortex of playing against the same old meta game over and over again.

Rorschach is too awesome to be associated with the rest of DC.

I'd buy a Watchmen fighting game in a HEARTBEAT though. I think there's a ton of potential in those characters too.
