The 'Skylanders Giants' |OT|

Is there a schedule for when figures are released? I work at GS and I tell every Mom that comes in to check TRU, it seems my store never gets what people want. I know nothing about the game, just curious so I can let people know.

All figures
that aren't only sought by OCD man-children
have been released already.

No one gives a shit about Drobot. You can still find his series 1 figure in stores.

I didn't expect that a GameStop "mom" would come in asking for specific light core figures that only OCD adults are still seeking.

So instead of actually answering the question, you just lie instead. Precious.

No, there is no definitive list that has release dates for all the figures, but most of them arrive in "waves" that sites like darkspyro will know about at least a bit ahead of time.

The figures I listed are the remaining ones that have not been released - I would expect them in the next month however. The rest of them are out there - directing them to TRU is probably your best bet.

Bane? Get them on board, I'll call it in.
Reposting since I got the bottom of the page (hate when I get that).

Hey everyone. I'm planning to sell my Skylanders collection and I want to get an approximate value to put on eBay.

Everything here is related to the first game/Series 1
I have:
PS3 game
3DS game
Their portals and USBs
All 32 main Skylanders
All 5 special Skylanders
The mission packs
The items

What would be a good selling price?

Lightcore Hex, Lightcore Chill, Lightcore Pop Fizz and Series 2 Drobot have not been released.

I thought Lightchore Chill had seen a release? Not sure where you are, but it's certainly in the UK (as a Toys R Us exclusive), and Lightcore Pop Fizz is advertised on the US TRU site, I believe, albeit without a release date.

I'm trying to think what new characters are left. I believe Ninjini is the only unreleased Giant, and in terms of Lightcores, I believe it's Pop Fizz and Hex we're waiting on (although the regular Series 2 Hex looks pretty badass).

Legendary Lightcore Chill is out, but I haven't seen the regular Lightcore Chill though (USA).

My three and six year olds are both eagerly waiting for Lightcore Hex, making your reply both ignorant and a bit insulting.

Just realized Ninjini is all I need from this set (Granted, I am not buying the reposed Game 1 characters or lightcore). She still a TRU exclusive? Think I'll hunt this weekend if she is.

So I tried to play Giants for the first time in the last 4 weeks. I tried to plug the Portal to my Xbox 360, but it did not turn on the lights. In game, the portal is not recognized. A moment of panic. Try to unplug and plug it again, no luck. Test it in another USB port, no luck. Test it in another 360 I have, no luck. Picked my old Spyro`s Adventure Portal and it worked fine in both 360.

It worked fine the last time I played Giants. I personally stored it on my collection, so there was no fall, no problem at all.

What can the problem be? Can I fix it? How to open the portal?

Okay, apparently Tesco are set to sell both Lightcore Pop Fizz AND Lightcore Chill soon! Hoping to hear word on Ninjini as well.

GAME.co.uk are currently selling triple packs on their website for £15, so if you want to get a decent boost on your collection, now's the time.

As for me, I just ordered Scarlet Ninjini, along with Light Core Pop Fizz and Chill (non-legendary) from Amazon.de - worked out cheaper than if I went in-store to get them, sadly enough.

Huge apologies for a triple(!) post, but just wanted to let fellow UK-ers know that GAME has put Ninjini up on their website. She is currently out of stock (was in stock earlier), but hopefully will be available to order again soon.

I'm just waiting for the giant's sidekicks to come out this time and hope to heck they won't be American exclusive this time so I don't have to shell out over $100 just to get them.

Unsure if I'm going to go for round 3. It was really frustrating at points just trying to get just 16 figures this time around and I don't know if I'm up for having to chase after double that amount.

Katzii

Yeah, I'd love to see the original Sidekicks over here as well though. I've not paid out for them.

I kind of already resolved as well that I'm bowing out of the game (for the time being) with Giants; the store exclusives make it difficult to collect since most of these shops are a good two hours away from me (so I have to pay postage to get figures shipped my way), and being where I am, the new figures are slow to come if they do at all.

Also, I really don't like the concept of Swap Force and what I've seen of the characters thus far, they look as though they've been designed by a completely different person who has never seen the Skylander characters before. They look out of place.

Maybe if I can find them cheap in shops, I'll consider it, but at this point, once I've gotten what I want from Giants, I'm happy to call it a day (and probably move onto Disney Infinity in that respect, depending on what they tell us about it - I do NOT want to buy five figures from a film I don't care about to see everything that film's world has to offer).

The US McDonald's Skylanders Happy Meal toys come with $10 off a starter pack for Giants in case anyone cares, the coupon doesn't seem to limit use to one per pack which I find interesting

I'm in the US for a few more weeks and rather tempted to get those sidekicks...

Finally found Ninjini in a local Walmart - had given up looking for her even though my seemed to really want her. Stalked stores for weeks to find Eye Brawl and Thumpback, ordered Molten Hot Dog and Jade Flashwing online, and all I heard was "what about Ninjini?"

Took her home and gave her to the kids and got a "Ninjini? Cool. We'll be outside playing basketball."

They've had the game since Nov 2012, and finished the story long ago, so I guess I can't blame them for the disinterest.

Can't remember the last time I turned the game on, and I'm only on chapter 8 or 9.

Hopefully the kids won't show much interest in SwapForce. Really sad when you look at all the characters laying around and realize how much money you've spent on a game. Even worse when you've paid full price for the game and figures, then find them discounted 50%.

I may force the kids to sit out SwapForce and wait until everything is discounted before jumping in. I refuse to buy a game for myself at release for $60 when I know it will be down to $30 within a few months. It was different with the kids, but I can't reasonable expect them to show interest in a game for 6-7 months waiting for characters to be released.

This is one of the saddest thing I've read...kinda makes me glad I kinda got out of the Skylanders business when I did. I wasn't buying it for kids, I was just kinda into it for myself, cuz the collecting toys idea to use in a game still seems like a pretty cool idea. The problem is I think that the actual video game of Skylanders isn't that interesting, and very little reason to actually wanna be replaying these levels.

Maybe if the game was like Diablo more, something along the lines of increasing levels and skills up to ridiculous levels, and having a bigger challenge would make all this worth it, but the fact that it's a "kids game" makes it not reach it's full potential. No DLC, no real challenge...no real longevity in the game. Leave to Activision again to take a good idea, and just not really bother to see it through to it's full potential.

I never finished Giants but I stupidly bought a copy of the owner's pack because it was $10 open box from EBGames (Canada) for the Tree Rex, I just wanted my own Tree Rex. I never loaded the game to play with it though, heh. I'm pretty much done with the franchise, not sure if I should keep the toys. I actually only opened my Giants characters.

I find it sad that the interest wanes out but I'm not surprised. Recently, I brought myself back to Giants again because I bought a load of characters that have never actually been used (see Wave 2 onwards) because of this mentality of releasing them at a trickle. At the very least, they could release all the new characters within a month or two of the game's release and THEN do the re-releases.

My 8 yr old daughter started obsessing about each new character that would get released, or that her friends would talk about at school, etc. So, I told her that she had to max out her previous characters first as well as complete all the challenges and story mode before getting another Skylander. I feel good about getting them for her now because she really works for it plus I'm seeing the beginnings of completionist gamer emerging in her.
I never realized there was an OT here on the community side, bummer.

With Toys R Us having the Giants starter packs at $35, and the $10 off coupon from McDonalds last month, I snagged a 3DS version finally for $25. It's a great deal if you have that coupon.

There's also new sidekicks coming out based on Giants (like Ninjini).

I only have Trigger Snappy from the original lot; unfortunately, these haven't come over to the UK and I refuse to pay stupid prices for them.

I'm pretty much done with the franchise but I'm surprised they pulled this again.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/ref=pe_22900_30302390_pe_button/?ASIN=B00D6NPFDK

Pre-order Skylanders Swap Force and get the never before released Lightcore Hex*. (*Lightcore Hex has never been released in North America.) We will email you a promotional code to get Lightcore Hex for free from Amazon.com within 1 business day after your order ships. This offer will be extended to all existing pre-orders. Offer valid when shipped and sold by Amazon.com. Amazon reserves the right to change or terminate this promotion at any time. Limited to one per customer order. This is a limited time offer, and a limited number of promotional codes are available.

Why can't they just release the damn toys on time? Seriously. It leaves a sour taste in my mouth, I'm glad I'm not gonna bother completing my lightcore figures anymore. I might just sell most of them.

I still want to get Lightcore Hex, but may have to end up importing her like I have done a number of my figures.

Come Swap Force, I'm not bothering with it any more. I wanted to give Activision a second chance with Giants because of the promises of better availability (and schedules?); while figures initially seemed easy enough to come by, they fell into old habits again.

The only way I'll get into this will be buying the figures on special offer and getting the game on the cheap.

...On the upside, I do now have all four original sidekicks, and some good friends willing to help get the Giants sidekicks. Yay me.

So I have a question. I was recently informed that skylanders, a game I had written off as a "kid game", is actually an insanely addictive and fun co-op gaming experience. That being said, now I am interested. My wife and I are dying for a new co-op game to play. I also happen to have a 3 year old that would probably enjoy it also. The problem is, I don't know where to start! Can one of you pros give me some advice on the best starting place with Skylanders? Should I just get the Giants starter pack (ps3) off amazon, a big lot from eBay, or what?

The game is indeed a lot of fun, although some of that does come from the excitement of having new figures. The console version is likened best to a "Gauntlet-style dungeon crawler", while the 3DS one (a single-player experience) is more of a 32/64-bit style platformer game.

There's currently two console games out, and both play much the same. What Giants has over the original is:

- Difficulty level settings (something a lot of people clamoured for since Spyro's Adventure only had one difficulty) - three in all
and an unlockable fourth
.
- Slightly more refined and slightly less glitchy gameplay.
- Longer levels.

The game however has LESS levels than the first, and I feel isn't quite as charming as the original, but still a good play. You will be able to use figures from the first game in the second (so if you see a character that is cheaper from the original series - green-based - it will work fine, but will lack the "Wow Pow" abilities that can be used with their series 2 - orange-based - equivalents). You can use series 2 reposes in the first game (as well as "Lightcore" versions of characters from the first game), but not new characters.

To see everything in the game, you need one Skylander of each "element", although you can complete it just with what's in the box (that includes trophies), but will have a harder time of it. You can make this a mix of Giants and regular Skylanders (there are some parts only accessible with Giants, but one will come with the Starter Pack - Tree Rex).

When it comes to buying figures, you can either do the easy thing and just buy the ones you like the look of, or research the play-style for all of the figures. I like characters with quick-fire ranged attacks, so a lot of the tech characters, like Trigger Happy, Drobot and Bouncer are perfect for me. I would recommend looking up preview videos on YouTube to see how a character plays. Of course, I was originally only buying the figures I liked the look of, and ended up with every single one of them. Go figure!

It's good to have a varied selection of characters as some can deal with different areas of the game better than others (for example, if there are enemies up on a ledge, you wouldn't be able to hit them physically, but another character might be able to throw a projectile at them). You're able to switch out characters at any time just by taking your current figure off of the portal, and putting on another.

It is good to make sure to have a few also because once a character "dies", it is out of commission for the rest of the level. If all of your characters die, you'll have to restart the level. You can level the characters up though, buy them weapon upgrades, and also improve their stats by making them wear hats and also completing heroic challenges (each Skylander unlocks one, but all Skylanders can try them).

Hopefully I've not confused you even more. It's not too tough a game by any means, but it is a lot of fun and the figures are pretty decent and fun to collect. Enjoy!

@Katzii - thanks for the info! I was going to post in here asking about the games as well; got the [first] 3DS game for $20 not too long ago, and just got Giants for 3DS too~ I like the platform gameplay style, but was wondering how the console games differ, but you answered most of that :p Are there any other games that are/play different, or is the 3DS version the only odd one out?
With the 3DS portal that I have, it's compatible with, say, the PS3 version too right? [with the additional cord obviously, I don't think the PS3 does IR :p] I'm still working on getting one skylander for each element, so any money I might have saved getting the games on sale I'm pretty sure I already spent on figures LOL

No worries! If I can try and help in any way, I will answer your question the best I can :)

In terms of gaming systems, the 3DS is the odd one out; there are also a few games on iOS - Cloud Patrol which is like a little shooting gallery game where you have to shoot trolls and enemies to get a high-score. Lost Islands I guess would best be described as a Farmville-type game; it is free-to-play and you can pay for items to help you in the game. Battlegrounds, I've not had too much experience with but from what little I played, you take a couple of Skylanders onto levels and battle them against enemies.

All of the games do have micro-transactions, but if you bought your Skylander figures new, you can use the code that came with them to register them in the games and unlock them, so that's something at least (and they can be used in all the games - for instance, I have my collection entered both in Cloud Patrol and Lost Islands)! It can all be earned in the games, but as free-to-play games go, they don't make it easy!

I would imagine the 3DS portal would be compatible with the PS3 game as long as you have the appropriate mini-USB cable (from what I know, it's only the 360 that has incompatibility issues with portals from other systems). I would still recommend using the portal from the PS3 game though, just because it is that bit bigger so if you've got two players, or are using items, then it makes fitting them all on that bit easier!

And welcome to the sinkhole, hahahah. As I said, I intended on purely getting one of each element myself... Then just getting the ones I liked the look of... Then all of them... Then variants, importing sidekicks... It's not a cheap hobby! ;)

What sickness is this? Less than one week after I get Giants I have three giants and one of each element. I've already spent over $100 and preordered swap force.

Jesus. Help.

Anyone know if there are any deals on Skylanders figures in Canada? Heck, even finding a Canadian-based webshop that sells at retail with affordable/free shipping would be nice ;>> Seems all the places I check are "in store only" or are already sold out of the ones I want XD Any help would be appreciated, thanks! :3
Thought I'd cross-quote this here incase someone knows ^^; Thanks in advance~

Well, my Giants collection is completed. Someone in Australia was nice enough to help me get the LC Hex's I needed, as well as triple packs 8 and 9, which haven't hit the US yet. I found 2 S2 Drobots at my local Walmart, while this person sent me the other 2.

I got my single pack Jet-Vac in the mail today, from someone in Australia, seeing as it's absent from wave 5.1 boxes here in North America (the boxes with S2 Drobot in it). The only thing missing now, is the 4 Giant Sidekicks, which I am hunting for the bags of chips as of late, since they are out in the wild. I will update this post one more time, once I get them and find a place for them on my wall.

Nah, the long agonizing wait starts when the game comes out and they start trickling out figures and can't maintain stock again.

I don't have it in me to go for a third round. I'm hoping to get the game at a discount later and maybe 2-3 extra figures but I'm not going all-out again.

Skylanders is just too expensive to collect, and people thinking about jumping in should consider the fact. This isn't just another game, it's another hobby entirely.

See, I may get Infinity, just so my kids can play, but the game is too simple for my tastes. Characters don't level up and gain new moves, and any upgrades are only permanent for as long as you keep Power Discs on them. No innovative ideas for it, like Swap Force Skylanders swapping. Characters can only play in their own worlds, outside of the glorified Little Big Planet/Minecraft mode (ie Toy Box).

How is the 3DS version of SA and Giants? On sale, thinking about picking it up.

3DS version is fun. It's less of an action game, like the first Skylanders on 3DS, and it feels more like the console games, but with fun platforming segments.

I updated post #1243 to reflect the completion of my Giants walls. The only thing missing now, are the Giant Sidekicks. I don't know where I will display them, but I will find a spot, even if I have to put them on the opposite side of the Spyro's Adventure Sidekicks sitting on my Spyro's Adventure display shelf.

All you guys with loose spares or planning to get out, my g/f and I have just gotten into this game and I'm looking to fill out a collection without breaking the bank, so get at me if you have any you'd like to get rid of, even from the original game, as we only have a few figures, essentially the giants starters along with Drobot, Shroomboom, and PrismBreak. So literally anything else.
