Adam Orth no longer with Microsoft

Guys, why are Game Journalist some little drama divas?
Do they really think that they're celebrities and that people take what they say seriously?
It's annoying, just do your goddamn job. You're not special.

Of course Arthur doesn't like GAF we've mostly done nothing but shit on the guy since we first heard of him. Deservedly so, but I can't expect him to say anything nice about us.
Not really. I liked the dude in next gen threads before he went on a limitless crusade for SimCity and beyond and decided he was above reason and logic. He's stubborn, hypocritical and unable to self-monitor. Just like in real life, I have no tolerance for these kinda of people.

i don't get it, are there bears on the internet? or people?

Straight forward? Or another analogy first?

Don't walk into a tiger's den and then throw rocks at it expecting it to be your friend.

Nah... that one was kinda wordy.

Don't shit in the street and expect no one to say it stinks.

Crass, but more to the point.

In other words, it's not twitter's fault the guy did something stupid just like it's not the bear's fault if a camper stumbles onto it's den. We all assume some risk when we do things, and to then blame other people for said risks is just childish. That was his problem, and the thing is, it was caught early enough he could have appologised for his remarks. He could have said "Hey, I didn't mean to take it this far, just a little stressed out." Instead what he did was he continued to taunt and place blame on other people. I said when I first posted in this thread that I didn't think he should have been fired for it, but he did something stupid and now he he (and others) will learn to be more cautious.

Nope, it's not Aegies, it's gaf. Ever wonder why Che Chou, Adam Greenberg, Cliffyb, and a bunch of other people have said they don't like gaf?

Here's the flaw in that. GAF is not a person. GAF is many people. Anyone who says "GAF loves sony" or "GAF are jerks" or whatever are generalizing to the millionth degree.

On the flipside, those people you named are, in fact, people. Singular gaffers may have said correct things to them. They may have said stupid things to them. They may have said things completely off topic. But that doesn't make "GAF" anything.

Other victims of the internet under Arthur Gies definition:

Judge Richard Cebull, a disgraced judge that was forced to resign after sending e-mails joking that Barack Obama's father was a dog.

e2AC11J.png

The Steubenville Rapists, who recorded their crime on video which leaked on to the internet (at least Gies isn't alone on thinking this is someone else's fault?)

e2AC11J.png

Anthon Weiner, former Representative who tweeted his penis to a young lady, which he absolutely would not have done if not for twitter existing and women on twitter being hot. Shame on you, internet.

e2AC11J.png

Yeah cause those things are totally comparable to a couple of snarky tweets.

He was on this forum for a while before anyone started hating on him.

He acted like a bigshot with sources in the rumor threads and everyone who disagreed with him was a peasant and got talked down to by him, and when at the end of it all his information turned out to be bullcrap he kind of dissapeared.

The people celebrating this as some sort of victory are bellends but the laughable rankling of the eternally-offended, precious lambs of internetland still don't excuse his inability to use social media properly. The blame for his dismissal ultimately lies with him.

Well said, it's just common sense

I agree, but when he opens his mouth, in this case tweets something, then he is open to criticism. But I agree the whole "he is stupid" posts need to stop.

I'm not saying ignore him, by any means. But there's a difference between calling someone out for something they said/did/wrote, and calling for effigies to be erected. IN THIS VERY THREAD, people are (jokingly but it's the internet) calling for effigies. It's a BIG problem this forum has.

He was antagonizing Microsoft customers in a tweeter account clearly marked as a microsoft employee. He was representing Microsoft. Microsoft doesn't like his customers being laughed at by their employees.

It's not like an anonymous tweeter account for this is hard to obtain.

No he wasn't. Incredibly over-sensitive and bored internet dwellers got upset with him because he shared his opinions. All he did that was dumb was talk about a rumored feature of the yet-to-be-unveiled console. And again, he didn't deserve even a suspension for that. "Hey, don't do that again" and "Please make your games as awesome as possible" should've been the end of it.

On the way to another 10000 posts thread?

So, how did always online work out for you Adam?

And to Mr Gies:
The Internet did not make those tweets.
The Internet did not fire Adam Orth.

I see two options:
1) He was trolling (and the next Xbox does not require always on). You should use an anonymous account for trolling.

2) He spoke the truth. Then shame on Microsoft for firing him even though it was within their rights.

definitely lies with him but the celebrating is grotesque

I thought most people shit on him because he was an atrocious poster here before he ever rode Anthony's coat tails to become the Savior of Games Journalism.

Guy makes bad analogy. Internet rage. aggressive replies. Fired.

Millionaire gets kickstarter for daughter. Plot thickens. Internet rage. Plot thickens. Internet rage. Plot thickens. Internet can't give more "cares". Still kickstarting and millionaire as the plot thickens.

Actually no. Gies was sufferable back in the day when he was mostly known as Anthony Gallegos's buddy. It's within the past 9 months that he's demonstrated to be a moron on Twitter time and time again. Some people on GAF may be rough but he deserves to be called out especially when he resorts to shit talking on Twitter.

Can we please stop making every thread where Gies says something stupid about him? (so, like, every time he says something?) We know how he is, he is a nobody-blogger and doesn't really deserve the attention he gets, in fact, the sooner we forget he even exists the better.

It's not up to you who deserves to get fired, unless those people are 1) breaking the law while on the job, or 2) under your supervision. I don't think Orth was right to do what he did, but it's not within my purview (or anyone's here) to say that he should or should not be fired for doing it.

Losing a job is not a slap on the wrist. People have publicly apologized and retained their jobs for doing worse.

I agree on both points: its neither up to me to decide and, yes, many a person has not been fired for worse. However, I don't think it's "bad juju" to feel in some way he's reaped what he's sown and feeling no sort of remorse for a man that obviously felt secure enough in his position, happy in his ignorance, and boastful in his lack of empathy enough to make fun of other people's point of view, faulting their inferiority. He got served a well-deserved helping of humble-pie. He won't be saying people should move from bumble-fuck Montana to San Fran anymore because their internet sucks.

PFFT really? Of course they do, and of course people do in turn take what they say seriously. If they didn't, this would never have been news.

This case is a little difference because this isn't the first time Orth has gotten in corporate trouble for having a big mouth. He, more than anyone, should have known better.

But yeah, come on dude. EVERYONE took what he said seriously.

I hate how this is written as if it were some passive event that happened TO Orth.

No, dude. Orth's life got fucked up because of some stupid shit, that HE DID. So, in other words, Orth fucked up his own life. That's all that happened here. You can't fault people for reacting negatively to bullshit from a person who should damn well know better.

The fact that he was fired over something as slight as this tells me all I need to know about how highly he was valued at Microsoft.

This chap's tweets were more than just rude; they potentially harmed the marketability of a major product of Microsoft's, having someone say "you live in the wrong country, deal with it" when he should be getting people to yearn for the (yet-unannounced) product instead. These tweets were covered by so many sites and forums that it has probably had a very real effect on consumers' desires to purchase the next XBox. GAF alone was full of people changing their buying preferences to the PS4 instead.

It was no wonder the company wanted him to pay the price. At least he's not penniless or some shit, he'll find another job no doubt (and, also no doubt, be doomed to make the same mistakes again.) It's about as bad as Ken "work two jobs" Kutaragi, and he was outed too.

If he had been a guy who was on a team of testers for Microsoft, I might agree.

However, when you have an important position, your opinions attract more attention. More attention leads to more of a public relations fiasco.

MS was feeling enough heat from all of these rumors and leaks, and then he went ahead and made it worse. So much that they actually had to have a controlled leak today to finally try and dispel some of the building negativity. They can't fire anonymous sources and leakers, they can fire someone who had a name attached to their online postings though.

Tough luck but that's how most businesses act with their employees on social media. Don't comment on company related stuff without an official green light.

Now that we know "always online" is true its understandable why he had to leave. He cost microsoft a lot of marketing money. They had a plan to spin this as positive and he poisoned their ability to sell it.

But a lot of the underlying issues for "always online" stemmed from the idea that it would block used games and/or run the risk of being an expensive brick you couldn't play your collection on 10 years later, when support would be abandoned.

They are addressing the underlying concerns and as a result people are coming around.

Oh well this incident has taught me alot not just about my behavior but what to do when I run my own business.

And that's why you don't work at ms' hr or pr department.
