Soul Sacrifice (Vita) Demo impressions

So is the talking book the only way to get Lacrima? I'm confused about where to get it and it seems to refresh so slowly - do you get it as a drop from quests at all?
You get Lacrima after completing each mission. The Cerberus mission alone gives you about 50 Lacrima, and you get even more from missions in the full game.

there's Clan functions in this game?
I don't mind a GAF Tail (Fairy Tail) Guild of some sort... lol would be awesome

wonder who would be our Natsu lol

I don't really see the point of clans, to be honest. The OT should be good enough for the most part.

Speaking of the OT, I need a title. Right now, I'm thinking:

Soul Sacrifice |OT| Sacrificing textures on the hunt for dark souls

This isn't the Vita thread. :p

Apparently there are differences in the names of Sorcerer ranks depending on the region.

EU/JP:
Legendary
First-Rate
Second-Rate
Third-Rate
Inexperienced

NA:
Divine
Legendary
First-Rate
Second-Rate
Third-Rate

Not sure why this was necessary, but it'll make some of our discussions very confusing...

Divine actually doesn't make any sense... especially for those holding Devil Arms.. lol
Legendary would have been the one size fit all top ranking..

Inexperienced could probably be Amateur or something

Soul Sacrifice |OT| Sacrificing textures on the hunt for dark souls

it will be interesting to see how it plays into the Avalon organisation..
forming groups/clans/guilds within the Organisation or against the Organisation.. (okay I'm thinking too much)

is there ever PVP?

since Toto is selling his Vita... the subtitle should be dedicated to him..

Soul Sacrifice |OT| Toto Sacrificed. Vita Saved

There isn't PvP, and I'm going to assume that title is a joke. o_O

Is there a benefit to heavily favoring save or sacrifice, or is being neutral a valid strategy?
Some Sigils add bonus effects if you have unbalanced Life/Magic levels (Divine/Dark Arms), but there are no disadvantages beyond that.

Favouring save = Divine Arm = greater defense (not sure how that affects heals) but makes you a better candidate for a support build
Favouring sacrifice = Devil Arm = greater offense (but poor defense.. meaning you get easily defeated by bosses later on) but really cuts down the time on some battle

being Neutral... I guess you are neither here nor there.. but at least you have the possibility of easily switching sides.

Note: Sigils have added effects that are unlocked according to your alignment (and the souls you get from saving/sacrificing)

Could you make a "tank" character that is all Divine and uses that one spell to attract the monster's attention toward you like a taunt?

The manual states that Divine Arm heals more per tick and has higher defense and gets more life back from saving defeated foes. The Devil Arm does more damage, has higher offense and gets more magic casts returned when choosing to sacrifice a foe.

0 for 2 in Cerberus matches tonight. Smart, experienced team members really make a huge difference in that fight. Your group can either make it look easy or impossible.

The best Cerb run I had tonight ended in a disconnect by the host saying he "had to go". Unfortunate, but that's the way it is sometimes.

I'm starting to like the strategy on Cerb to run past all the trash at the beginning and save them for sacrifices, or at least most of them. I know the Cats can cause problems but I seem to struggle to keep my magic out of the red in that fight.

I don't. I had one team that tried it. Cat ended up eating, becoming Super Cat and sucking us in and disrupting the whole fight.

I noticed that enemies will come and eat a player's dead body.. is it purely an animation... or does something happen if we let them be long enough..?

This game has some godlike netcode. I was playing with people speaking foreign languages on my friend's ghetto welfare connection and there was only insignificant differences.

In other news, I beat the Cerberus for the first time today. My sacrifice was the final blow. It was glorious.

the game really is coming together for me after a few MP matches and cerb.

i really don't like games that rely on servers though. ( i know it has SP but still...MP is where it shines) not sure if i can bite the bullet on it.

If the Vita has a decent lifespan I can see the servers being up for years.

I always run forward, grab the stone edge on the right side next to the second set of cats and kill them. I leave their souls for the rest of the team then spam Good Luck message before triggering Cerberus. This works well with competent teams, in my experience.

Nice little touch being able to squash roaches in your cage. lol

it'll be nice if you can squish them.. and touch Librom (and have him SCREAM at you) hahaha

hmm how I hope the Vita supports WPA2 Enterprise... feel like beating some Cerberus right now

Yep though it was singleplayer for me LOL

Now I just destroy the first bunch before I take on Cerberus.

the cats will eat creatures that are not saved/sacrificed yet and become bigger and more annoying.

I should get back online one of these days.

Assuming no cats, do things which are killed but left alone stay around forever? I thought they had a timer so I left the trash mobs alone?

Also how much more damage do homing attacks like iceroot do charged up? And for throw weapons, does each bullet count for 15 or is that assuming all hit?

I feel like I'm missing something with this game. I feel like I should like it but I dont. Maybe I'm not far enough and it just hasn't clicked. killed the jackolantern thing.

Favorite games are Demon's/Dark Souls, Monster Hunter. I loved God Eater so I expected to really like this.

I think I'm doing something wrong.

I felt the same way. But after playing with a friend and taking on Cerberus with a few other people, I started getting into it. Especially once you unlock all the stuff you can do like boosting spells and fusing them to make new ones. I'd say play til you at least run into the Cerberus mission and try playing with some ppl. If you still don't like it then there's your answer.

But the online for the demo will be cut off when the game comes out so I'd try playing online before then.

Finally got to the point where network mode is unlocked so will definitely give that a go tomorrow. So far I'm really digging this game. Combining/upgrading/fusing your attacks seems to have a lot of depth and room for creativity.

Had him on red and bleeding all over (1 sacrifice and rite) God dammit.

Just need a nice attack that can follow up his quick wake up (since grave clod becomes a hassle at that point).

Mudfiend could be offered as a martyr reward from Harpy right? Is Jack also a candidate?

Cool, I'll try and pull myself away from MH to play some more.

Want to confirm for harpy martyr reward since I just got it. Unsure of jack though

Can we avoid both Toto and textures in the OT title? Sometimes it's almost as if people want these threads to start off on the wrong foot. The game is amazing.

Soul Sacrifice |OT| Save the Cerberus foundation.

That one is nice.

But it seems AI partners have their own quirks kinda like in GEB - i was asking to be sacrificed and then Utheena saved me instead...

Also one thing which is minor nuisance is the game doesn't keep track of vunerabilities of monsters i have discovered so you can't check vunerabilities of species before going into mission.

Yeah, I noticed that last night. You have all of the lore (which is great) for the archfiends, but it would be nice if the opening page had some useful combat information about them (once you've discovered that information for yourself in game).

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!!

Fucking finally

Translation: "Cerberus has been defeated!"

lol

I haven't beaten him solo yet, but me and a friend teamed up and had a few different sets of randoms fill in the other two slots tonight. We killed him I think 8 times without a loss, even though some of the people we got were doing some really questionable things. My friend pretty much had nothing on him but a Treefiend, Icebrand, and the other slots were filled with Irondrake Eggs or w/e. All three starred. It's not a bad strategy but I had to have a shield, healing bloom, my treefiend, and several melee attacks. I had one irondrake egg.

Did it with one AI sacrifice plus my Rite to seal the deal and GODDAMN Treefiend was pretty much the win button in that fight (got a Timesand during one of my Martyr Harpy runs and combined it with a egg I had).

Online should be interesting since I learned some new stuff plus its more likely gonna be all Treefiends up in that fight LOL.

I forgot about this

Thanks for the info

Seriously impressive game/demo. I've only just finished the first 6 chapter of the demo and haven't played online yet (I will tonight) but it just oozes with quality. Glad I pre-ordered though, those English voice-overs are pretty terrible.

They don't bother me that much. Just the background voice for Magusar or w/e his name is when he talks. The chipmunk voice is unnecessary.

I don't mind the munchkin voice. The book and the narration irritate me though (partly because it doesn't appear to take the gender of your character into consideration).

after an hour of experimenting with strategies against Cerberus i came out with this score/time:
this was solo/no allies/used black rite. i think i left some points on the table, but they would have required me to bring more offerings than i can hold.

What build/strategy did you use?

What build/strategy did you use?

snowtree root(tri), any shield, treefiend entrails(3 casts), sanguine cannon, vimblossom fruit, and spear fragment(you don't need this to beat him. i was just being greedy for points).

try to get counters, elemental weaknesses, and save/sacrifices on the mobs leading to Cerberus for points.

before i trigger spawn i took my health down to black rite with sanguine cannon, and then planted/ ate vimblossom fruit. when you trigger the battle press start to skip the sequence and plant the treefiend. what i was doing before was standing behind the golem. don't do this. the best way is to stand front-left or front-right of the golem. that way when Cerberus runs at you , you use your shield to bounce him back right in front of the golem. when you do this once and he's laying cancel your shield, and start tapping your snowtree(don't charge it) until he freezes. then unleash a new golem before the first runs out. while the golem is whaling on him use your black rite. depending on what parts your golem hit, or curse spots he broke you could be done. if you aren't don't panic. he'll be red and pretty slow so just dodge his attacks until he runs at you. at this point you can either let him fall on his own and attack with anything you've got or use shield to knock him down yourself and attack with anything you've got.

you may have to use the shield a couple extra times in between those steps to get him in front of the golem. and sometimes when the battle starts he'll do his ranged attack instead of running at you. if he does this walking to the side and dodging 2 attempts usually gets him to run at you.

i believe that's everything. good luck!
