Dragon's Crown (Vanillaware PS3/PSV) Sorceress Trailer

Oh god, is it safe to come back to this thread now?

I'm probably getting PS3 version first, then Vita when the price goes down a bit for it.

I don't think I'll be able to decide.

If it isn't native res I guess I'll go ps3. If it is....shit I don't know.

i think the size is kind of an issue. they're gargantuan. the more i think about it the more i agree with the penny arcade comic. if they had a male character with a dick that big players would complain that it was weird and out of place. that said, there's nothing inherently wrong with this stylistic choice but people have the right to find it out of place without being called anti-feminist (kinda wonky how the script got flipped in this thread).

Something this big and floppy?

I see how it is. Girls can have giant knockers but as soon as a dude has a big old shlong it's completely inappropriate and or childish. I dunno, it seems like the general census is that it's fine to sexualize a dude but it's COMPLETELY NOT COOL to sexualize a woman.
totally joking

You were okay until you went there..
you went full White Knight..
You never go full White knight

Bwahahaha, so good. I love you, Gaf.

More on topic to the game itself - I CAN'T WAIT! So torn on Vita or PS3 tho, a friend of mine desperately wants it but he doesn't have a Vita :( I'M GOING DWARF ALL THE WAY BABY!

With leveling mechanics and grinding... maybe count me out. I want the game to be good though.

I really hate how devs have been forcing RPG mechanics into games nowaday that don't need them. I get that some devs want to ease the player into the combat system ( or possibly don't want the player to be too overpowered in the onset ), but there has to be a better way. I hope that at the very least that you won't have to re-earn your skills every playthrough.

Wait, wouldn't keeping your skills make it worse?

I like the Guardian Heroes approach to rpg mechanics, where there are a limited number of levels per playthrough, making it harder to grind, and you don't keep skills. Also, some skills actually force you to relearn combos. Increased speed changes the timing, and increased strength changes how far enemies fly, which both can break combos.

Even then, GH has a way to grind by juggling dead bodies, and (I think) a single stage with infinite enemies, which is unfortunate.

No cross-platform MP suggests to me that the game will be gimped in some way on Vita. I hope the PS3 version supports remote play.

Honestly, after suffering through Tomb Raider, it's made me more tolerant of all kinds of horrendous crap by contrast. I doubt another game will bore me more with its hand-holding, uninspired combat, tacked on leveling, or QTEs in the near future. Grinding is an issue, but I'll live as long as we're talking an extra hour or two over the course of the game.

I'm mainly worried about how it'd be in multiplayer. It's not very likely that someone will be able to have a casual game amongst friends if you have to spend time grinding each playthrough.

The game is based at least somewhat off of Dungeons and Dragons: Shadow over Mystara, which Kamitani worked on. That also had a leveling system.

Maybe cooldown based?
I would love that.

But if you look at the trailer, it looks like she cycles between spellbooks for different spells. Yet in that gif she doesn't have to cycle to go from teleport -> pewpew. So, I'm thinking the teleport might be hotkeyed or something instead of a cyclable spell.

Always wanted to try that game, but the Saturn version is way to expensive for me. Didn't know it had a leveling system, and I never knew Kamitani worked on it though. Definitely going to have to check it out one of these days.
We're getting it via digital distribution soon, so we'll get our chance soon enough.

Yeah it's probably a button or a quick forward forward motion. Same for the air dash

It's coming to PSN and Live in June, so that should make it easier (and obviously much cheaper) to check out.

I don't think that this game falls into that category. Kamintani said that he came up with the idea 15 years ago, and that the game was originally planned for the Dreamcast. He just ran into a problem with finding a publisher so it ended up being put on hold.

I'm getting both! PS3 for playing with my roommate and brother, bigger screen and playing with PS3 owning friends. And Vita for landromat, downtime at work, playing with Vitabros & cats, and play in bed.
Hope they at least have SOME special edition of some sort. Maybe one with both versions, I'd definitely get that!

Well an idea and a fully developed design document are two different things

I don't think you're wrong in thinking this game falls into a different category, but for a different reason than that.

This game was probably always more RPG inspired simply because that's the type of game Vanillaware makes.

I don't think it'll be as bad as Scott Pilgrim or Castle Crashers since it's not trying to emulate an old style of game for which persistent RPG mechanics and stage select don't work in.

This game sounds like it's designed around it's RPG and quest mechanics, rather than being an "retro" styled arcade beatemup with those features tacked on to add longevity to the game.

Yeah, but that was an arcade game. I'm seeing a trend where so-called "retro" games combine an arcade game structure (out of tradition, I guess) with persistence, new game+ style unlocks, and freedom to replay levels in any order.
Persistence in what context?

Also level select isn't foreign to arcade games

Yeah, that's what it sounds like to me as well. The only really retro thing about it is the genre since that's faded in recent generations. Nothing else about it really looks retro.

I still can't decide if I'm going Vita or PS3. Decisions, decisions.

I can't remember. Is there crossplay? Seems like a few people saying there isn't. If there isn't, PS3. If there is, Vita.

Edit: Does anyone know how the sorceress's casting system works? Like does she have MP or something? Or are her moves infinite/cooldown based?

We don't really know how it works but in this gif Solid posted.

You see the number at the top left next to her life bar decrease when she uses the spell.

Interesting. I wonder how you up the number? Maybe killing stuff? I guess that would make sense if she's a necromancer. Magic powered by souls or some shit.

Id kill for that :D
I honestly want it especially for games that haven't been localized. I love Kamitani's work on Fantasy Earth Zero and Grand Knight's History
I like UDON artbooks quality, but then wouldn't we have to wait until 2020 to have them in our hands?

Hahaha you have a point, but I really I'd like anyone to make a deal with Vanillaware to release artbooks.

PS3 for me, but there was no choice really, I don't have a Vita (not interested in handhelds).

I didn't get to play the D&D games. So the spellcasters have a normal attack and then a fixed number of bigger spells?

I think if a girl had giant camel toe, you'd get roughly the same reaction as a giant dick or whatever.

Correct.

"Tek what are you getting the game on and who are you playing? :D"

PS3 by default. I will probably play every class.

OK let's replace giant dick, with giant, red, hairy nipples for the male character. They would harden and enlarge in the colder dungeons.
