Has there been any mention of random special events? Kinda like the blood moon from Terraria? Loved that and wished there were more.

Yes, they've said there will be random events like that. I mean they're putting procedurally generated NPCs that offer quests generated in the same manner. It's not a stretch to think they can procedurally generate events too.

I think I too, might throw my money at this. I never even really played Terraria myself even though its sitting in my backlog but it looks so much more fleshed out.

i thought the glitch are medieval knights inspired? whatever, fuckin steampunk spaceships are awesome. hope the later ships are different between races, would be lame if they all had the same basic layout with race specific details.

They've come up with explanations as to why all of the races are... ahem.. starbound. In the case of the Glitch, they're literally robots who don't know they're robots. Of all the planets on which the robotic race were sown as part of an experiment, only the Glitch have survived precisely because they remained anachronistic; all of the others evolved to the point where they eradicated themselves. They're the Glitch because they glitched, and remained stuck in the Middle Ages of their civilization.

Occasionally, however, there are Glitch who perceive that they are robotic. Usually, they're burned as witches or heretics, but I assume the player is one such individual. In that way, they have advanced technology, but their style is decisively steampunk-looking.

I like the Floran's backstory as well. They're tribal, cannibalistic... and they adapt like weeds. Any technology that their culture comes across, they somehow instinctively reverse-engineer it. That explains why their ship looks like a human ship, but covered in vines and plant-like bits. From what I understand, they're basically a race of devourers, both literally and figuratively.

No idea. A trailer is a logical step on the road to a beta though. Tiy mentioned updating the roadmap soon, as it hadn't been done in a while... maybe we'll get more clues there.

If we're lucky. In my experience, demos/trailers tend to be distractions that slow down actual development.

Well looks like Chucklefish may be going to E3 if eligible. Hopefully this doesn't mean a delay of the Beta :(

Yeah I saw this the other day and I don't think they should go. It's not that they don't deserve it, but considering their team is REALLY small, sending what could amount to 1/3rd or half of their team isn't the best idea. Since they're not a big studio they can't send a couple guys to represent them while the rest of the studio keeps on working like nothing happened. Sending a couple guys is the majority of their studio. I don't even know if going to trade shows like that really even does anything for small studios. I hope that by E3 they have a trailer and Beta out so they'd actually have something for people to play and watch otherwise why go?

What do they hope to achieve by going to E3? A small indie dev is going to be drowned out by the fact that everyone will be focusing on next gen consoles and the hundreds of AAA games that'll be announced. It's stupid. Just keep working on getting the game out, they should be heading to public gaming conventions, if anything.

Devil's advocate!

Its not like they've DECIDED to go. They've been nominated. They don't even know if they're even eligible for that nomination (even though they're currently winning).

Besides, free pass to E3, free airfare and hotel accommodations, and possible guaranteed game journo coverage? That's free advertising, free hype, and a chance to mingle with other devs... possibly make even more deals with other devs for character cameos in Starbound... maybe talk to Sony, Nintendo, or MS in a more direct manner... headhunting and recruiting some more people to the team...

And the drawback is what? Delay the game for a week? It's not like E3 is a few months long. If they win, they'd be insane NOT to accept.

It might be useful from a networking perspective but I still think they'd be foolish thinking they were going to get any real press coverage from E3 when everyone is focusing on the Nextbox, PS4 and the host of other AAA games announced. They'd get more marketing press doing a Reddit AMA....

So weird that in 2013 my most anticipated game is a 16-bit looking sidescroller.

And that I'd drop $45 on it.

Well it is more then a sidescroller, but yeah i am also excited to play this and has more value over a bunch of triple a games on the horizon to be honest.

Watching the footage. Holy damn at the lightning when using a flamethrower *drool*

Oh man and when going out of orbit going to another solar system, that is amazing to see.

I was going with the general description, but yeah, I'm completely addicted to these sand-vox games and love the old school style.

Minecraft and Terraria are two of my favorite modern games and this and CubeWorld are my most anticipated games.

I have one more slot in a 4pack (pixel) if anyone is interested pm me.

I'm hoping there isn't one. Whatever they're thinking about adding for release they can just push back to post launch. Get the damn game out already!

irrc, they mentioned that the more funding they get the sooner the game will be coming?

I really would like it to just be something simple like "Community designs and votes on some Hats/Weapons!" thing.

Something like that. Their two programmers were also holding day jobs on top of working on Starbound. I would think that's no longer the case by this point. They seem willing to contract or hire out for bonus launch content, but I don't know if they ever planned to do the same just to get the game out faster. Not sure if that would be a good business decision or not.

Less than 10k away from one million!

I dunno, I sort of feel like small things like that and starter pets won't improve the game much (starter pets being redundant when the game already has combat pets and community designs being something people will mod in anyways) and will only serve to stall their fund raising. I'd prefer some mid tier goal with a post launch ETA or some ridiculous amount of money to unlock just to see them keep the momentum going for a while longer.

I'm really surprised they didn't think about the rewards before starting pre orders. They screwed themselves by starting with a new race as the lowest tier.

I'm in. Hopefully the beta is soooooooon.

They indicated that but not sure what soon means considering the game will be out this year.

I hope they just say here it is or coming in a few days so we won't have to keep ourselves in suspense.

If they say it's coming out next month I'll order instantly.

Chucklefish has been way too quiet for me during this whole thing. Kinda hoping the silence leads to a big unveiling.

Kinda crazy that they've almost reached 1 Million without actually having a proper trailer.

They'll never announce the beta date as a stretch goal. It makes no sense, it's not like they can magically know when the beta will be ready only because they have more money.

We’ve officially sold $1,000,000 in pre-orders! Words can’t even express how grateful and overwhelmed we are by all the support you’ve shown us– not just over the past couple of weeks, but for the past year or so since Starbound was officially announced. You’re all amazing, and we’re going to continue to work our butts off to make Starbound an awesome game for you.

Wow. Impressive. I still haven't backed yet. Probably going to, but would really love to see something resembling a date.

Wow amazing to see this. I know this is nothing to compare to kickstarter well a little bit but i am happy for those guys to finally make the game fulltime instead on and off doing a second job next to it. GOTY2013 for me for sure.

Most gaming kickstarters don't reach 1 mill.
