Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen |OT| deep down darkness

Sorry if this question has already been answered. If I own the original and have not started it, would it be better to play it first and complete it or start a new game in Dark Arisen instead?

You don't need to complete the first one because Dark Arisen contains the entire first game. But, if you start a new game on the first Dragons Dogma and get through the first say 30 minutes, when you transfer that save to Dark Arisen you get some bonus stuff.

Anyone gotten a longbow better than Dragon's Glaze (you get one out of the moonbeam chests)?

I keep getting the short bow out of lvl 3 items, the Darkening Storm. It refuses to give me a ranger bow

I have been stuck with my longbow for years. The only downside of the whole game. Not enough equipment.

Those who played/owned the first game - is this worth the $40 price of entry to play instead of the original?

edit: looks like I was beaten a few posts up.

The question still stands, though - is the extra content/tweaks/content worth an additional $40 or is the game largely unchanged?

What's the name of the top tier Magick Bow in BBI?

I have Dragon's Tempest but it's only 800 or so base.

edit: 640 base. :(

This game includes the original so there is no need. The Dark Arisen quest are started at your home city at the dock. So it's all included within one game.

I haven't quite figured out dire drakes yet, haven't faced enough of them to find their weakness. My ice bow completely destroys normal drakes, those fights only last 15-20 seconds. The dire drakes are way more resilient to ice

Yeah, these dire drakes don't seem to take much damage on their chests and if you hold on they slowly kill you with fire since they're on fire at times.

Expose the weak point on the chest, grab onto it and go ham.

That's why it's so hard because you can't hold onto it.

For people who have finished BBI. Is it worth maxing the Ur Dragon weapons or should I wait for better weapons?

Also having a lot of trouble with the Elder Ogres. My party takes at least 5-10 minutes to kill one. Any tips?

It'll make your time in BBI a little easier, so why not. Materials are easily forgeable and gold is in abundance.

Just bought this via PSN and waiting to download. Played the demo when it was initially available but never got around to purchasing it, and then I just forgot about it. Looking forward to diving in now. Since I'm downloading, does DD guide me through the game mechanics/basics as I go along, or would I benefit from downloading some sort of PDF manual?

HalfBakedProphet or Kyoufu, what's the best way to deal with this drake with like eight bars of health?

I almost killed one with multiple High Frigor. The Super Drake had very little health remaining, but one of my pawns was down. Trying not to be a scumbag Arisen, I ran over to revive her. I hit B.... and loaded through the adjacent door. When I went back, the Super Drake was fully healed.

smh

How long is this?

Depends on what you do in the game and if you set up portal stones as soon as you can. There's a speedrun mode in the game though, so if you ignore a ton of stuff and have great equipment you can do it fast. You'll have great equipment post game though.

Yeah, I saw you post about that before. :/ Since I'm a Ranger I have to figure out another strategy since pawns are dumb as rocks.

Just got the game on 360. If my wife decides to do something other than Monopolize the tv... I will start my quest tonight. I will need some pawns... So I will add my info later.

What's the quickest way to rise level/vocation level in the post game?

For vocation, Noble Quarter in Gran Soren. Go stand on the wall to the right as you enter and your pawns will take care of the guards. You can go AFK and do something else.

I had my Sorcerer pawn completely stripped of all but ice based spells to make sure they were used.

Even with Ice Affinity, my Magic Archer 'arrows' did very little damage. The only thing I saw doing good damage was High Frigor cast by me and the sorcerer pawn.

Main pawn is a Fighter.

Can I get estimated hours of a normal run? Not speedrun.

lol, the reason I never got the boots of shadow was because I didn't grab that quest off the quest board. Derp

Make sure you grab the quests on the safe haven quest boards in BBI, guys. They are unique and different from the ones on the surface. Probably obvious to everyone but I missed it

BBI is so nice. I miss when games had dungeons like this. I'm reminded of the good ol' Star Ocean days with Cave of Trials/Maze of Tribulations. :(

I think I missed one stupid tablet somewhere, but I don't mind because going through again is even more fun than the first time, lol.

To level up faster, fight offline Ur-dragon using Rager pawns with Bezel Crown.

To level up the vocation, go to Noble Quarter in Gran Soren.
Uh, need to get some strong ranger pawns with BC then, but it might be hard when I'm only on level 50 and don't want to pay tons of RC, lol.

Not sure if it was posted in this thread, about getting any kind of special ending/cutscene/item for defeating Daimon 2.0 on hard mode (final boss of BBI).

Well, after consuming about 20-25 Wakestones (his new 'flame pillar' attack can 1 shot you on hard mode), eating about 30-35 of the most potent healing herbs, more than 25 liquid vims, and countlessly rezzing my sometimes-braindead pawns in dragonforged epics...I finally defeated Daimon 2.0 on hard mode.

For his herculean effort (even on my level 197 main/pawn) there is no new cutscene/ending/or giveaway item (or extra drops on his corpse) like defeating the Gransys story dragon on hard mode (and getting the Duke's outfit, etc). Just the satisfaction and bragging rights I suppose, of saying you beat Daimon 2.0 on hard mode. Congrats to me...I guess?

inside the safe havens were Barroch hangs out (not the shortcuts that lead outside). The first one has a healing fountain

I only found the inn one.

This is why Capcom should have added more trophies. Pretty big slip up by them. They killed my RE5 and 6 100% with all those added trophies.

the first one on the upper level of BBI, with the fountain, is up the staircase in the Gutter of Misery (the area right after you fight 2 gorecyclops in the sunny courtyard). The lower level one is a door on the right just after the area with the two prisoners cyclops.

Both have boards with unique quests.

First time messing around in BBI since killing Daimon 2.0 a few times and I'm finding some decent items in the upper stratum. I was starting to think that lv3 armor would only appear from Daimon's chests and then I finally found one from a gold chest in the midnight helix. Has anyone found lv3 weapons in random chests?

not that I recall. Sometimes an enemy might drop lvl 3 stuff. I've found lvl 3 gear and novelties in chests

Has anyone found a new chest plate of any kind? I can't get them at all. I'm getting sick of farming Daimon, i keep getting equipment I already have. Nothing new. I know the vocation trick, that isn't the issue

Which class are you?

Spanked Daimon 2.0

Wish I could just farm him without running through the whole dungeon.

The shortcuts don't close up after you beat him the second time around. It takes about 5 minutes or less to make it to him from the second shortcut, farm away!

Did you use MA to kill him? I've yet to try it with that vocation, ranger is my go to class at the moment.

^ Does amazon not have the game in stock? Thought you ordered it last Tuesday.

I switch between fighter, warrior and ranger.

My ranger is using Golden Belt and Trophy Jacket depending on the encounter. I'll make sure to send you some bitterblack armor if I don't get anything good from it....better than storing something I won't use.

On a side note, I wittling down Death right now. A bug occurred where hes just idling around at the end of the map not doing anything so i'm using this to my advantage

I went to three stores today trying to find this while I was out but nobody had it. Not even gamestop.

Ordered online.

Weird, from my experience gamestop tends to have everything. Hell, I picked up Devil Survivor at launch without pre-ordering. Main reason I use them so often, since amazon introduced tax in Texas there's been no real point of me not just running to one of the local gamestops on the way home.

One of the managers told me when I went it to try and get the game is that they received only the amount that was on file for pre order.
