Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen |OT| deep down darkness

Alright, got my copy in the mail today! Still no pawn, I'm only level 2 in Cassardis still.

I'll add some people from the list as friends, for some pawn hiring when the time's right.

How can a sorcerer take down End Boss 2.0 in BBI? The only spell that seems to damage him at all is High Miasma and Ingle, but they do piddling damage. Holy and Dark element spells seems to do literally zero damage to him. I'm gonna run down with every weapon enchant to see if he has any elemental weakness. So far he doesn't look unkillable, but he does look unfarmable to me.

As a warrior with 3 pawns at level 16 I'm getting my ass kicked by the bandits at the fortress. One or two of the bandits will just one shot me. Am I doing something wrong? I have Sinew and a few attacking skills, and my pawn is a healer mage with a lightning attack and boon spell.

I normally grab a strider for ranged attacks and a tanky character. I've had to resort to going around the bandits to even explore that area as there are too many to fight when half of them 1hko me.

They are just tough early on. You will be kicking their asses soon enough.

Are you at the place where you went uphill, avoided a boulder, and then find groups of bandits all the way down? This was a tough spot for me too. The bandits are a real challenge if you are in the teen levels.

I drew them out a couple at a time. If you press down on the d-pad your pawns will follow you. That's how you can back them up before they engage in combat. Some bandits will turn back but some will come forward. If you can beat the bandits on the road there is a place for you to rest in the ruins.

At the very beginning of the game there is a stone that you must go to in order to summon more pawns. It is right after you meet Rook, about 15 minutes in. You go to the nearby fortress marker on your map and do a quest upon speaking to the stone and then you may make/summon pawns. About 30 minutes or so into the game, IIRC.

I did that one, then I went into an area I wasn't ready for and lost one of my pawns and I've yet to find another summoning stone to get my party back up to 4. I'm sure I'll come across one, but do the stones show up on your map at all as an icon or anything?

Loving the Dark Arisen content!

Continued my Hard mode save this weekend, started it around level 120ish (I mistakingly thought I was level 167 before starting the new content, lol) still getting my ass handed to me regularly. Very very fun. Can't wait to play again tonight :)

I love it when I check a pawn's inclinations after I'm deep in enemy territory and realize they have guardian/medicant.

I also love it when the pawns that have these inclinations are rangers/fighters/warriors.

Has anyone had any experience with Pioneer pawns? From what I've read Pioneer makes them more independant, so for example Pioneer/Challenger seems like it would be good for a ranger pawn for example. Should take the initiative in taking down ranged/magic users.

Considering I can buy Elixirs to change inclinations, should I worry much at the main pawn's creation?
Is the behavior ONLY modified by the primary and secondary inclinations, or do the others still count, albeit a lot less?

Daimon 2.0 is farm status for me, using Magick Archer. But I can't keep up with the gold required to rarify all these items.

Still no short bow -_-

So went around the bandits, found a griffin, fight it, wasn't too difficult as I was able to beat the prologue one so I had a general feel for its tells.

It has a sliver of health left on its last bar and it 1 hits me for about 500ish health.

I love this game but damnnnnn. You really get the a monster hunter vibe from this game for sure.

Why did they have to have repeating areas in this? I love the dungeon a lot, but this cheapens the content quite a bit.

Yep, the Riftstones will show up on the map as a small white stone with a black spiral in the center. Riftstones are found in most major camps/towns/cities and there is one at the Waygate (where you meet Mercedes for the hydra escort quest).

You probably want to avoid Guardian/Nexus. Those two are the most useless inclinations from what I've seen.

The other inclinations matter it seems but not as much as the main two since it only shows the two highest inclinations as primary and secondary. One way of preventing inclinations from changing I've seen is to add a tertiary inclination.

So buy 5 elixirs (the wiki says 5 but I've seen some people say 10-15) for your primary, secondary and tertiary inclinations so something like Medicant/Challenger/Utilitarian on a mage pawn.

You then use the elixirs in the reverse order. So use Utilitarian pots, then Challenger pots, then Medicant pots.

At the end of this your pawns inclinations would then be primary/Medicant, secondary/Challenger, and tertiary/Utilitarian (not listed).

Actually, what I'm noticing that is that the RNG for the game will already predetermine what several kinds of gear it can be based on the combination of vocations for you and your pawn. Last night, I had this issue:

I had two Lv3 Weapons and here's what happened when I purified as the following classes:

  • Assassin/Sorc = Lv3Ranger Bow & Lv3Archistaff
  • MysticKnight/Mage = Lv3Archistaff & Lv3Archistaff
  • Fighter/Fighter = Lv3Mace & Lv3Hammer
  • Strider/Strider = Lv3Daggers & Lv3Bow
  • Mage/Mage = Lv3Archistaff & Lv3Archistaff

I did some of these twice and got the same result. It seemed more predetermined than I thought after the vocation trick. This totally sucked, I needed a Lv3 Mage Staff and kept getting the Sorc version. I did get my Lv3 Daggers and Bow though which was nice.

Yeah I believe your right, after more testing it does seem they are predetermined by class, maybe I just got lucky or something. Kinda sad, I have 2 Lvl 3 Weapons and a lvl 3 Armor and for the first time in both Vanilla and Dark Arisen, I am short on rift crystals...

I think only two chests are random after beating Daimon.

Armor

Moonbeam Gem(R?) RiftCrystal/Novelty

Weapon

Can you guys see if it's the same for you as well?

dude my entire party has the same voice, damn it.

fire works well, they hate fire, fire works well

edit: hey didn't know some of these DLC armors are in chests, got a solar armor, looks ugly though :(

Dark Arisen is my first time delving into DD. Is it worth picking up any of the DLC from the Xbox Marketplace or is it all already included??

Make sure you add your gamertag to the google doc located on the original post. It's hard to find a good xbox friend pawn to hire that isn't a million levels higher than yours. For example, my level 11 strider....

nobody uses my pawn :(

Anyone beat the Final boss as a Sorc? If so do you have any tips? Gonna bring some more curatives when I go back but man is it hard getting off spells on that guy. My strider hired pawn seemed to do alright though, when she actually feel like doing anything.

Just picked it up this weekend but I have not played this game in months. When I loaded it up, I was in the middle of a quest. Are people starting over or just playing through their last save?

Version1 is incredibly weak to charged holy bolts. I haven't found an effective way to beat version 2 as a Sorc.

I don't get people whining about slow PSN download speeds. It took me less than 120 minutes to download the 11 GB Dark Arisen PSN version.

The installation was horrible though, ~20m.

In other news: I suck at this game a lot. Picked Strider and at around rank 23 I get gang-raped by bandits pretty easily. I also dislike the retry system in this game, it starts you off like ten years from where you died.

Try saving manually using the menu. It's cumbersome but better than relying on checkpoints.

Holy shit, I had no idea you could
sit back and watch Aelinore get strangled to death
. I learn something new about this game every time I play it.

This has been described to me as a party-centric, third-person Japanese Skyrim. Semi-fair description? If so, I must have this game.

There's a trade 1-get-it-free deal at EBGames (yes, trade 1), so I'm tempted to offload Infinite for this (all done with Bioshock).

Also, which system should I bite for? 360/PS3?

It's not really skyrim, you'll be disappointed if you expect an open world game as huge as skyrim, it does have some similar elements.

It's similar to other capcom action adventure games with a bunch of stuff mixed in.

Formerly worldrevolution. The only reason I am nice to anyone else is to avoid being banned.

It's better than Skyrim, but what isn't. PS3 has more players on here.

I think I prefer that actually. Perfect!

Skyrim wasn't my cup of tea.

Pretty spot on. Just remember that, while Skyrim placed emphesis on world building and story telling, DD focuses on combat and survival.

Sorry, but most people are going to say "quality" is something broader than "polish". Polish leads to quality, but is not necessarily important.

I don't really understand what you're trying to say with this. When people talk about quality, they are usually talking about how refined something is. Polish the process of refinement. How can you possibly end up with a quality product without any refinement? Most people don't get it right on the first attempt. So yeah, it definitely is important.

It's better than Skyrim, but what isn't. PS3 has more players on here.

Nothing really beats TES games for world building. They are sure fun to walk around outside in, but pretty dull in every other regard.

I love, really love the dungeon crawling In BI. But seriously the mistletoe headpiece with that fucking unicorn horn...WHY....why does it have to be so good, and so damn ugly.

Havnt found many upgrades for magic archer still :(

World building has a different meaning in my head, maybe world exploring is a better phrase. I know, people like heading out in a direction to see where it takes them. I actually think DD has plenty of that, even if the areas aren't quite as expansive as a TES game. I've been doing nothing but side questing and exploring and I still haven't gone to the pawn guild in Gran Soren.

But the actual rpg and combat elements of Oblivion and Skyrim are just so meh in my opinion. DD is much more of a complete package.. but, I dunno, clearly it doesn't have the mass appeal a Skyrim does. Though, truth be told, I have no idea why something like Skyrim catches fire but a game like this doesn't.

Try purifying some items as strider or ranger, there should be a couple of items that are great for MA. Not sure if its an entire set but there a few items with Trophy in the name that will give you additional magic.

Pawns talk less?

Pawns still talk truck loads haha.

If they had more lines it would be as atmospheric as it is at first. I was killing wolves at night, and fuck me, if I didn't have "they're weak to fire" burned into my brain.

So Barroch is selling me some new weapons. He has everything except a Magick Bow.
