New GTA V Trailers "MICHAEL. FRANKLIN. TREVOR."

insightful journalism there.

Have these people ever played a GTA game, or is the irony, satire and social commentary of its characters and stories completely lost on them?

Rockstar's "sweary, violent men" have always been subversive in the sense that they comment heavily on the society and culture that shapes them. They're not stereotypes in the sense that this brilliant piece of journalism is trying to imply they are. To imply that a GTA game is just some testosterone-fueled experience like CoD or something is really bizarre.

Looks like a movie trailer, just like GTA4. Looks like it's going to try and take itself seriously, just like GTA4. Oh, well.
I can't believe you walked away from either the Trevor or Michael trailers with the notion that this takes itself too seriously. Did we watch the same trailers? I don't think there were 5 seconds in a row during the Trevor trailer with a lick of seriousness to them.

As for RPS... I stopped reading them last year when every other story was bagging on Diablo 3's DRM multiple times a day. The site actually has competent writing at times, but is way too arrogant, self-important and redundant to read. Half of their stories are bitching and the other half are "we are a cool site who is talking about this cool thing". Sucks because some of the stuff they are trying to bring exposure to is worthwhile, if they could just fucking get over themselves.

I actually never played that one; was the main character really not stereotypical?
He gets framed and kicked out of the military and doesn't really want to get involved with crime but ends up getting dragged into it by his brother Lance among others.

All GTA trailers look like movie trailers.

I might break down and buy it on Xbox if PC version will be delayed. I just love roaming around, even if the story isn't anything worthwhile.

Personally Franklin seems like the type of character I'd most like given the stereotypes -- jaded gangster who wants better for himself. Been done a million times, but it's still more sympathetic to me than Micheal or Trevor.

Eh? Have you watched the previous trailers as well? All the trailers seem to be pointing to it being more lighthearted than GTA IV, which I'm glad about.

Awesome trailers, my favorite one was the Michaell one, but I think that Franklin is going to be my favorite, character-wise when I'm playing the game.

I can tell you right now they won't announce it till it's out. They probably don't want to undercut the current-gen versions sales. If anything they will want you to double dip!

Fuck, you're right.

I hadn't thought of that. I honestly would double-dip either way. Unless the Next Gen consoles are out in sept.

Damn.

Maybe Rockstar can make GTA 6 about a totally normal, middle-aged housewife who comes home after work and goes to the gym and then comes back home and reads Danielle Steele for an hour before going to bed.

Sounds like an exciting game!

So GAF... Who bites it in the end?

Would be insane for all three to make it out alive.

I think they let it slip in an interview that one will become the antagonist? I'm guessing Trevor, for obvious reasons, will go against Michael and Franklin, and you'll still be using all three.

RPS is the website version of Derrick.

GTAV was one of his most anticipated games this year, though.

My money's on Franklin. As the only outwardly likeable character he would be the... interesting one? to end up on the wrong side of a disagreement with the other two.

All three look interesting.

I am partial to Trevor though because he looks Batshit insane. Like, I would play a whole game with a nutcase like this...even if he's wearing nothing but his underwear.

personally need to see some real gameplay in order for me to care at all about this game. These trailers dont do anything for me until i know the gameplay is revamped. Anything like gta4 no way, no buy.

You won't see that until the game is released. Like all GTA trailers, they're all cinematic.

There's an insane level of detail in these trailers.

Set dressing, costume changes, etc.

I don't think there were this level of clothing options in GTA IV.

They need to implement the abilities to create outfits. Like the ability to buy certain pants and a certain shirt and save that as an outfit instead of scrolling through each option every time you want to wear them together. San Andreas could have used this.

Yeah for sure.

I just hope the loading is a bit quicker and if they force you to change clothes in a mission they revert back to what you had previously (plenty of times didn't happen that way in IV).

Why of all things is yoga one of the mini games? >_>
Yeah, I don't get that one either especially considering they're supposed to be of greater quality this time around.

I'll suspend judgment though.

How do you want them to distance themselves from GTA4 in terms of gameplay? What can they do while still staying GTA?

I have a hard time seeing them doing anything that's not traditional open world third person action gameplay at this point. Steal car, drive across town, watch cutscene, take cover, shoot gun, drive back to where you came from, shoot some more, rinse repeat.

Nobody else is doing it. How many casino and bar themed mini games do you really need?

Hopefully they give us some info on some stuff in this next preview:

-Wanted levels. I really want to know about the improvements made or major changes.
-Economy system
-Wildlife
-Side missions
-Arsenal. I'm hoping for a huge arsenal.

And now I post about hundred Mafia related figures that are cool, then we have a little opinion battle over our ... opinions? Sounds fun.
That are cool...to you. Seriously. I've seen your type before. 9 years ago when GTA:SA was announced, to be exact.

God's had his chance.
So fuckin gut. I need it now. Gonna be a fantastic way to end this Gen for me... this and Phantom Pain are gonna be it for me before i camp out for my ps4.

Seriously, what is this shit? Are you trying to wipe some racism agenda off on me because some guy 9 years ago preferred the Mafia setting too?

I prefer 'Mafia' type of games, movies and shows over the 'Gang related' . If that isn't a legitimate opinion without opinion without it being race / colour related, then it's 100% pure bullshit.

I love how Franklin represents the gangster and night lifestyle. Brings back so many memories of San Andreas. Perfect to have the youngest of them representing that.

I reckon I'll spend most of my time in Franklin judging from these trailers, perhaps a fair amount of time with Michael too. But watching Trevor's trailer again he just doesn't interest me.

Calling a spade a spade, is all. Like I said, your comment is nothing new.

Don't like it? Don't make similar arguments.

And they'll still give it a 10/10 for it's "oscar worthy story". Gaming journalism 101, be as negative as possible "in the end it's a master piece 11/10".

Rps doesn't give scores at all...

OT: trailers did nothing for me.

Looks like another wanabe movie, didn't see any game or sandbox fun in there whatsoever.
The engine and animations are really showing their age as well, uncanny plastic puppet valley

All three chars are way too American for my liking.

Yoga sounds like a waste right now. I wish they decided to make fun of stuff like insanity workouts...Rockstar could do some hilarious shit with that as a mini-game.

Too niche a pop culture reference. P90X would be the better choice. Either way though it's still just a graphical veneer for a QTE. You may as well be doing bench press or on the treadmill back in the Los Santos gym.

I can see both Michael and Trevor going into rage-induced killing sprees for no particular reason. I don't see it for Franklin, tho...
