New GTA V Trailers "MICHAEL. FRANKLIN. TREVOR."

I don't really get Rock Paper Shotgun's complaints.

Also, with the Watch_Dogs trailer, another cinematic "wants to be a movie" trailer of a male character with a bunch of "unrefined testosterone" committing a bunch of violence and blowing things up, they said it's "impressive" and is something you should "definitely watch". Hmmm.

I guess because the Watch_Dogs guy has a nice cellphone and the trailer shows piercing girl saying "Screw around and you'll get people hurt!" it gets a pass.

Edit: "sweary men" seems like a reach also. Michael does not swear, Trevor says tits, and Franklin says one bullshit

*shrug* I'm the complete opposite - my enjoyment of SA skyrocketed after you ditched the rest of the gangbangers and could dress CJ in a snazzy suit and work for people in highrises.

I will say however, SA needed or rather, benefited from that part because the contrast between the small-time gang setting and then working your way up really made that game special. Then you fled and started up in another area. The progression was one of the best things about SA.

I just find it funny that people can pick and choose what sort of organized crime fiction they prefer right down to the setting. Like if you enjoy crime fiction, what's particularly unappealing about inner-city American crime stories?

Yeah, it felt good having worked your way to the top. But then you had to go through the bullshit gang wars at the end. I know it had its place in the story, but I didn't have to like it. I wanted CJ to stay being badass elsewhere.

Why wouldn't you be able to prefer different settings? I feel like I'm reading crazy town posts right now.

Man oh man this looks awesome! Trevor looks hilarious.

So is the story jumping around to these guys, or do you choose who to play? Could I just replay it 3 times and use each character exclusively for a whole playthrough? I'm a little confused by this.

Wat. lol. You're not allowed to have preferences? I don't get it.

My San Andreas memory is a bit rusty but by bullshit gang wars, do you mean that annoying territory crap you suddenly had to go through?

I tried to go for 100% gang territory once. That was an incredible pain in the ass, never again.

Also, finally got 100% in San Andreas for the first time earlier this year, never again.

From what I understood, the main problems was lack of gameplay and that they found it boring, but I don't get it either, it's a story-focused trailer and I wasn't bored at all.

I just remember powering through the missions until it stopped, can't remember whether it popped up again at the very end of the game or it was a temporary blip? I only remember finding it really, really annoying.

Mostly, yeah. I also didn't enjoy the gangbanger storyline that much, but that takeover crap was the most infuriating thing about the game.

Each character has solo missions unique to him, but there will also be a main story with missions involving the three characters together (most notably the series of heist missions).

You can switch between them on the fly in between missions when you're just messing around and during missions involving more than one character you can switch between them in real time also.

Not sure if the main story will be totally separate from the solo missions for each character, but I doubt it. You'll probably have to eventually play with all three in order to beat the main story missions.

Waylon Jennings was perfect for Trevor. Can't wait to see the soundtrack reveal. Radio Ga Ga was also an excellent choice for trailer music.

Nothing can diminish my hype for this game. So long as I get to play GTA in a GTA setting, I will be happy no matter what because every GTA is my favorite GTA. Barring that, there will always be SR4 and Watch_Dogs.

Yeah, it came back towards the end and you had to have a certain amount of territory before you could start the next mission.

I like all three trailers but I can already tell that Trevor is going to be my favourite. Who needs mediocre next gen launch dregs when you can have this! I think I'll have to go on media blackout now though (ok TRY to) because I don't want to see any more of the story or locations before I play this.

May the 2nd..

Can't wait. Probably spend a good 4 to 6 hours going through ALL the different previews and looking at what info each preview gives us.

Just really hoping for some mention of wildlife and out of mission activities.

Gotta love holidays lol.

I just finished 100% Los Santos gang territory piece on Sunday. I really liked that aspect and Los Santos only took a few hours, I'm not sure about the other cities. I'm playing through the game my first time. I tried at launch but was overwhelmed by the size, basically when I realized I needed to collect 100 of a batch of collectible a to receive a reward.

You forgot to mention there will be a 30sec load screen every time you switch characters, so in general open gameplay will more than likely want to just stick with 1 character

Get rid of that quality of AA, the blurring effects, drop shadow res, and you've got the PS3/360 versions.

This looks great... but not as great as some seem to think.

Doesn't matter, is GTA. If I want shiny wrappers, I'll go play Crysis 3. For me, after a few minutes of awareness, immersion has me ignoring fancypants graphics. So long as the core GTA experience is there, I'm a happy man.

Ubisoft have been pumping out so many boring, repetitive ass games lately with few redeeming features, that I'm shocked everybody is so positive about Watch Dogs.

Exactly I think it's because it's a new ip for the next gen that blinding Some people. The city looks empty and lifeless from what we've seen so far and the hacking ability looks very over powered.

Where did you see that? I remember the previews late last year said the gameplay demo had instant transitions. You zoom out to a bird's eye view of the world map, then zoom down to the character you choose.

Start at the top and work your way through the muck.

But nothing can prepare you for this

The REAL problem is that black people ain't as cool as white/Italians perception wise. When you think white/Italian criminals; there is an aura of yeah.. the cool factor. Black people; you'd associate with slums and ghettos, pimps, druggies and all the really negative associations (WHICH they've been dealt an unfair hand with). Mention Harlem and nothing really good comes out in relationship to the area. Racial stereotypes are deeply ingrained IMO. White america will find it hard to deal with the theme. I personally can't watch black porn. GTA SA sounds like something I won't be able to get into. (But then I wasn't too impressed with GTA to go run out and buy VC).

I think once word gets out about the setting. This game won't sell that well. (DID DEF JAM sell well?) Fact that Manhunt sold like crap is also indicative that maybe the lustre on violent games is wearing out.

As cool as these videos are I plan to avoid this game. It is one of those high profile titles I buy out of habit. I have bought every GTA since GTAIII but 1st remains the only one I have completed. They keep adding more toys and things to do but failed to evolve past the original sandbox game. Sure they dress it up in a nice cinematic package. It's still not enough for me to deal with the bland gameplay and the superficial sandbox world I am stuck playing in.

Yeah, kind of embarrassing all around.
Stick it to the man and all that.. but it's not like Ubisoft is a small indipended company either.. go figure.

Holy shit.
Also about the "cool Italian gangster" these people should watch Gomorrah.

The really weird part about those SA posts?

I posted on GTAGaming at the time and everyone was just fucking hyped about the game. Very few racist undertones, or obvious ones at least from what I could remember. You'd think Gaf would have been a bit more mature.

From what I understood, the main problems was lack of gameplay and that they found it boring, but I don't get it either, it's a story-focused trailer and I wasn't bored at all.

They do that for a good reason though. Nothing is better than the moment you get your hands on a brand new GTA game, and having the gameplay mostly a mystery is a big part of that.

Why wouldn't you be able to prefer different settings? I feel like I'm reading crazy town posts right now.

Wat. lol. You're not allowed to have preferences? I don't get it.

I'm talking about a small subset of people who dislike Franklin (or CJ... hello 2004) because of gussied-up reasons like "I prefer the classier mobsters" or "their culture just rubs me the wrong way, I don't even understand what they're saying!"

I wouldn't call it out and out overt racism, but when people have to get into the particulars of why they like one type of glorified thug but not another, I just can't understand the thought process.

Tomat

Wanna hear a good joke? Waste your time helping me! LOL!
Dunno how someone wouldn't be able to relate to Franklin in some way. He seems to be the most "normal" character there is. Michael is a fucking crazy alcoholic 1%er, Trevor is a crazy ass redneck drug dealer who seems pretty content with his life. Franklin looks like a typical dude in a fucked up situation who wants out.

Oh my god. I hope I can skip that Franklin stuff entirely. Can't stand how these guys talk. Might have to mute my sound system if I can't.

This guy has to be fucking kidding me. Mute your sound??

Posts like this literally crack me up. Please tell me this is an elaborate troll post.

And as far as I can see, no one has done that in this thread ( Might be wrong ), people just keep bringing that SA shit up and that god awful post and applying it to every "I like the Mafia setting" posts here. What that guy is saying is clearly not kosher but the fact that people are pulling the racism card on an organized crime setting preference beggar belief.

I'm at around 95% completion on my old file. I stopped at one of the longer races because my car would just not survive anywhere close to the end of the race. All I needed was to complete the last few races and the train missions for 100%, should probably get that file done just to build my e-cred.

I wonder if they'll have an updated version of the gang territory side activity from San Andreas because of Franklin's friend. In SA it got a little annoying to manage because of how much ground you have to cover, but it was fun at first. Could be interesting to have in V in a slightly altered form.
