Bad timing all because GT5 took so long in the first place. Whatever, can't say I'm interested in more PS3 games at this point.

That's... not how it works.

Yes it is, PS3 and PS4 have completely different architectures you can't easily port and if you did it'd take a while if the PS4 is sold at a loss maximising sales may not necessarily be the best thing at the expense of a large profit intake (of course you still want the thing to sell well, you just don't want to greatly reduce potential profits to get more sales.

That's what happens when you let the brand management in the hands of a developer. Drive Club should have wear the GT name, Drive Club should have used PD cars, GT6 should have been a PS4, etc...

DriveClub with the GT name is like Dark Souls with the Final Fantasy name.

Hmm a bit silly for it to be PS3 only but can't expect Sony to do something smart for once.

Also if the PSP can get GT, Vita should too.

What's funny is that casual gamers will automatically assume that it's on PS4. The marketing campaigns for both will be in full force simultaneously and it's a very small leap to assume that the new game runs on the new system.

Guy enters gamestop: "I want a PS4 with GT6."
I have a feeling this will happen a lot lol.

What if Drive Club isn't good though? There is the risk of brand damage.

They didn't care for brand damage when they offered the watered down version of GT on PSP.

Maybe PD could have looked over the project and see if it was quality before even saying no without giving the game a chance.

DriveClub with the GT name is like Dark Souls with the Final Fantasy name.

It worked for Horizon.

Why!? With the PS4 so close!

Simple math. PS3 has an install base on over 70 million. PS4 will not have nearly that much. So let's say the attach rate for GT6 is 10% (I'm just making this number up); you'd have sales of 7 million vs much less on PS4.

Plus there's that other racing game launching with PS4, having a GT launch with PS4 would hurt sales of that game and potentially hinder it from becoming the large franchise Sony is aiming for.

It isn't about making it a PS3 game, it is about making it a PS3 game that will launch against their new platform where you can't play the game, and a new driving IP on this new platform.

If it wasn't Sony's biggest and best selling series they had it wouldn't be a problem, I doubt that many would care if this was a Motostorm or similar title coming out instead.

Worse to me is that they are going to end up taking most of the generation before we get a proper next-gen Gran Turismo, which is lame.

My guess would be that they don't want to make conflict with DriveClub. If GT6 were on PS4, all the gamers that would buy the PS4 would most likely have to choose between the two.

PS3 will have a bigger install base than PS4 on Holidays so it makes sense to announce the PS3 version first.
Then next year: GT6: PSGawd Edition

If it's actually 2014 FOR REAL, then sure. This is fine.

But knowing Polyphony, they're not gonna have it ready next year.

It's a good thing you don't work at Sony. This is how you water down a brand, NFS-style.

GAF would be out for PD's blood.
If they are looking to differentiate it away from PS4 (for DriveClub's sake?) - one way that would do it would be Vita cross play/buy (not to say whether Vita market would make it worthwhile - although PSP did despite universal hate on Gaf).

To be fair - "NFS style" actually worked for a few years (the yearly releases, the idiotic movie tie-ins and story-based games etc.) - NFS:U was NFS at its highest sales ever.

if you think about it then it will make sense, more or less.

GT maybe a system seller, but it is also a huge brand for Sony, Sony wants to prove they will continue to support the PS3 even when they launch the PS4, so you see them releasing GT6 on the PS3.

At the same time, they are making another big (?) racing game to be released on the PS4, DriveClub, they want to give the racing fans on the PS4 something as well, of course you can argue that they should have done the opposite, but that wouldn't really work.

GT6 on PS3 or PS4 will sell millions, DriverClub on PS3 may not sell that much, being on the PS4 with no competition sort of speak, puts it in the spot light, not to mention again no GT on PS4, so people will get DriverClub to get their fix, or so I think.

Sony is continuing to support the PS3, from God of War Ascension, to The Last of Us, to Puppeteer, to Beyond Two Souls, and now GT6, they will continue to support it going forward, and they kinda need to put big names on the PS3 to be worth it.

No. Usually the opposite happens. People see next gen game advertised and go in asking for it on their old console. Then they're mad when they can't play it.

Would have bought it for PS4 even though I don't really like GT

And this folks is a part of the reason why exclusives and games can be successful and sell a ton when releasing near launch for a new console even though the install base for the new console is significantly lower than the previous existing ones.

And no, I'm not one of those folks saying that it should've been ps4 exclusive. Just saying it could've worked.

The UI looks better but if this is coming to Vita I guess that I may as well pick it up, given that its not a bad port or anything.

new ui was a must, but it sounds like its still gonna be full of worthless past gen car models.... ditch them already PD

WAIT A GOD DAMN MINUTE...

Imagine your cell phone sending data to your PS3 as it creates a course through your driving of your own car...

You could make a race track of anything and anywhere, holy fucking shit balls. Race track to work omfg.

It wouldn't surprise me if this feature is Vita-exclusive... cool nonetheless.

That sounds ridiculously insane.

I don't think any game could manage to pull that off, but it would be incredible.
