Yeah but that's cheap and you're not actually beating the levels, you're just completing them.
Yeah, that's why I did it plenty as a kid but won't do that now unless I'm just stuck on a stage.
This thread made me realize I need to turn on my Wii U.

Is it still 30cents?
Just turned 30 cents yesterday, so you have quite awhile to get it.

Personally I would just be too impatient to wait for a response when I could easily find it on my own in less than a few minutes. Miiverse would be like a last resort.

Actually in my experience Miiverse if often faster. You can have replies in a matter of seconds.

If Sonic 3 ever came to the Wii U (saying 'if' because atm there's no Genesis support), its Miiverse would be god tier just because of this level.

Y'know I never really figured out how that section was unintuitive. You see the platform, jump on it, it goes down. From there before it goes back up, the user spindashes in order to get out of the funnel and proceed, but by doing that discovers that pushing in the up and down directions gives the user control over the platforms movements. I don't know I guess people just ran onto it instead of jumping on it?

If you have a kid and you let him use a wiiu before the nes, then the snes, after that the n64, etc... you made a bad work as a father. Also, if you never had a console, and you buy a wii u first... then i dont know.

Wanna hear a good joke? Waste your time helping me! LOL!

I know right? I wouldn't even let my kid sleep inside if they couldn't complete Super Metroid on day 1.

Because they are using the service as it was intended.

Miiverse wasn't created solely so people could +Yeah! fancy drawings.

And yet one of the most successful games in recent times bases its entire structure around those three points. Pretty sure if you asked 10 random kids whether they have played Minecraft, at least 5 of them would say yes.

I was amazed that my 2 little nieces and thier friends played A LOT minecraft, hell, they did some fancy things that are way more imagintive and complicated that exploring metroid

Because gaffers never needed help with Demon's Souls

There's a difference between ask for help with some level/monster etc, and asking for help with a FUCKING TECHNIQUE that is explained in the manual (Press down twice to Morphing Ball, Press B to Dash) or reading it's description in game. Hell, you can do this shit even pressing around randomly some buttons

I don't think you could lower it enough with jumping alone to get to the point where you would try to proceed with a spin dash.

I was literally crying and laughing at the same time.
No, not laughing so hard my ears teared up.
I was crying tears of sadness as I laughed with pity.

Oh, fair enough. That's pretty cool, then. I didn't know it was so active, I don't own a WiiU. I just kind of assumed it would take like 5-10 minutes to get a response when you can Google it in 30 seconds.

I went on Miiverse for the first time since it went web-based and I'm honestly turned off by it now. So many kids with terrible grammar that praise every game (even the shit ones) or complain about stupid shit. It's like I'm on an elementary school forum or something. GameFAQs is honestly better than this. If it weren't for the awesome drawings there'd be no reason to look at the Miiverse.

It's a shame because Miiverse was really awesome around the console's launch. I don't even want to think about how horrible it'll be a few years down the line and more kids get onto it.

Thank you people for the heads up on the 30c sale. I will be playing this in bed later.

It will be like playing this completely fresh, as I haven't played this in well over a decade.

Oh, yeah.
Here's a link to the original "y cant metroid crawl?" post. Be nice! Let's see if we can make it the number one post in the community, lol. (Actually, number two behind Brinstar's awesome drawing, heh.)

I tried to be! Seriously though, like I said as funny as it is to see this 50 person pileup on one part of the game if this lets people get immediate help and get past areas to really get into the game this could actually be a god send for more hands off design. Or at least more "here we'll flash the controls at you quickly" and less "here's a tutorial area to painstakingly guide you through."

I'd like to see one of these dudes pull off a wall jump. I was a kid when Super Metroid came out and still require a lot of luck to pull off a proper wall jump.

Huh, guess I just don't remember how I figured it out initially. Maybe, it was from looking up and preparing to get out of the funnel that I learned it's possible to control it's movements, or just plain dumb luck.

lol some of those have to be trolling. You'd have to have never even heard of Metroid to not know how to open red doors or turn into a morphball.

I wall jump like a pro. Never saw what was hard once it clicked.

On the Mario Subject, I'm pretty bad at SMW, so its not like its super easy. Mario has a lot of momentum yo.

Wait until these people get to the wall-jump section.

Pauly strikes again

Well, that hate is sorta justified.

I dunno, I feel like most kids who play Minecraft also watch YouTube LPs to learn how to play the game.

this show is not Breaking Bad why is it not Breaking Bad? it should be Breaking Bad dammit Breaking Bad
'Metroid' has a bone disease that prevents 'him' from crawling
in some alternate fictional universe

I recently saw a show about child psychology and it mentioned something about how younger children can more readily figure out problematic instances such as these because of the way their brains path logical conclusions. Older children and adults will often get stumped on basic, even obvious issues, no matter how intelligent they are.

Maybe this is why we were so damn good at these games when we were younger?

Noting how some adults entering middle age abandon games that require ANY unsupervised learning and critical thinking on their part, I don't doubt it.

I don't think it should. It'll just invite the internet to bully an 8 year old for getting stuck in a videogame.
Yeah, for every one of us that might actually try to offer some aid and/or a friendly joke there'll be others being condescending and unhelpful. And honestly, when you think about it there's a lot in Super Metroid that you could easily not figure out without external aid, at least during the initial stages of the game. Hell, I expect I knew of that part thanks to getting Nintendo Power and reading it, not figuring it all out for myself.

And Demon's Souls/Dark Souls is essentially what this game is like now with Miiverse integration, get stuck and look through posts or request aid. Which is why I have a tinge of optimism it'll help see more hardcore design return, which will be ESPECIALLY great if from Nintendo after how handholding and safe they've been.

Hey, now... That level is deserving of hate. That's Tubular of the Special World. You have to rely on those stupid P-Balloons. Pauly at least seems to have the skill to have wandered into the Special World.

I'd ratter bring a blue yoshi tan deal with those P balloons

The worst thing about this is Nintendo's going to read all of it and you just know Sakamoto will jump on making el-casual My First Metroid if he ever gets off his ass and makes a new one :(

"With this new Metroid, we heard Miiverse feedback on Super quite clear, so we decided to do away with the whole labyrinth aspect and have just a single, flat path.
You start at the left and end on the right. There's no enemies, no frustrating blocks or even hills in the player's path - Anyone can play!"

You jump on the cylinder, it goes down and bounces back up--when you jump at the apex and come down as the cylinder bounces back down, it'll go down a little bit further than the previous time. That experience makes it really easy to assume "oh, I just need to keep jumping on it and it'll eventually go down far enough." When you're <10 years old, failure at this point just seems like "I didn't do it well enough" rather than "I'm doing it wrong."

I can't think of any other mechanics in Sonic games offhand where you control stuff with the d-pad like that; there's the spindashing on the nut/bolt platforms in Metropolis in Sonic 2 which comes kinda close to this, I guess, but as a kid I received Sonic 2 last. :p

Also, "y cant metroid crawl?" is seriously the most adorable thing.

Documentary is a bunch of hocus pocus. I've heard of it too, around 14 years ago.

It's a good example of what going through a generation of hand holdings, ultra linear levels and constant tutorials can do.

This generation already brought FPS to consoles with tens of millions embracing those trends, not surprised at all. They also tend to glorify exploration and multiple ( one-dimensional ) route/choice. Most mainstream forums rarely complains about streamlined combat, press X to be awesome, says it all.

Stop crushing my dream of a beautiful brand new 2D Metroid at E3. :(

:lol Get your mind out of the gutter.

why is everyone assuming that this people are kids?
Not all of them. Johan, Pauly, Anthor and Jens are clearly children, though. Their Miis. The grammar (or lack thereof). The attitude (HEELP MEEE). Also, if I see someone typing "y" or "u" instead of why and you unironically, I automatically assume it's a child typing.

Yeh, pretty sure if you check their profiles you'd find more evidence.
