What if Sony does the same?

This kind of goes against what PS4 design philosophy of being simple. I think people are just looking to throw the PS4 under the bus of the Xbox one for no damn reason. Sony has never followed Microsoft ideas. Right now sony has microsoft on the robes with this issue why in gods name would they just follow the same path after this kind of backlash?

lmao

Is this the last statement from a Sony rep in regards to used games?
http://www.computerandvideogames.co...4-pre-owned-games-we-will-do-the-right-thing/
"In relation to points like that, of course we're mindful of what the game development community wants and what the wider industry issues are with those things. I think in good time that will become clearer."

to answer the question tho.

I will probably buy one...because I..like many others..am weak. I enjoy playing games. I'd change my purchasing habits big time but I'm nto gonna lie...i will probably buy one.

albeit much later...since due to anger I;'d buy a Wii u and hope nintendo gets their shit together (lulz). But because i don't have the space, money, time to build a PC and honestly most PC games don't appeal to me and they don't get every game...i will end up buying a PS4 sooner or later.

E3 is going to be crazy because if the 15 games Microsoft have to show are actually good..a lot of people will cave.

I've been in a lot of FUCK CAPCOM threads and while their games didn't do as well, I think the majority that was against whatever the fuck they did...weren't gonna buy it in the first place..

So if Sony fucks up but then turns around and announces that they will have FFXIIV, TLG, KH3 (lulz), or other game series I enjoy...I'm not about to act like I have the control not to buy it.

Hell I will buy a Wii U as soon as Smash Bros. or Mario is released....

I doubt I am alone in this.

So hopefully, either Sony doesn't do this (or selfishly still allows rentals..maybe via Plus?) or Nintendo somehow gets their shit in order enough that I can live off of them...i will buy one regardless..it's just a matter of when.

#partoftheproblem.

bro listen, back in February I lost my internet connection for like three weeks. I couldn't even log into steam in offline mode! I don't remember exactly what, but it was asking me to log in without an internet connection. I couldn't install Chronicles of riddick or mirror's edge without an internet connection....I was bored out of my mind!

I travel with my laptop and play steam offline on the regular. Don't know what happened to you buy i've never had that happen. You're giving a great example of what could happen with the Xbone right here. Someone buys a $500 dollar system that they couldn't even play because times were tough and they couldn't afford internet for a month. Sorry, but that's a bullshit way of doing things in my opinion.

So far, my plan still holds. PC + sony + nintendo.
I'm waiting a year or two before i buy a wiiU, and if sony also does that crap, i'll buy a ps4 wayyyy down the road.

So long as they don't require the an always listening/watching peripheral to start and use the PS4, I'd be grudgingly accepting of all the other screwjobs.

Thankfully, I doubt I'll have to do that.

To be fair...trophies.

Everything EDGE posted months back more or less turned out to be 100% true, there were never any rumors of Sony having a always online/DRM like console, being anti used games, forcing Kinect on anyone or making a DVR machine.

Not EDGE, not VGLeaks, no anyone even hinted at anything like that, which is why you heard nothing of it when they unveiled the console and why Sony denied always online for their console, they allow the publishers to make up their own decision, just like on PS3. There are always online games on PS3 right now, they are typically MMO's. If EA games on PS4 are all always online/always connected, consumers have at least a choice to tell EA to F off and not buy their products, buy another game that does not require it, its an option, and options are good.

The only rumor that ever came out regarding anti used games was when Sony patented that disc anti used game technology, but this was never connected with PS4 and companies patent all sorts of stuff all the time, does not mean they use it.

To me this just reads like the Nintendo threads "What if PS4/Xbox also fail to sell?", as some sort of wishful thinking, that because things are bad now for Wii U sales wise the others will falter too, making the Wii U not look as bad in comparison.

This time, people are almost hoping PS4 will have the same features in that it lessens the blow and pressure on Microsoft. Lets not confuse hope with reality here.

*IF* Sony has this stuff in their console, then they absolutely deserve the same treatment that Microsoft has been getting. Without a shadow of a doubt.

But there is nothing hinting at them doing this stuff, no leaked rumors, no site claiming it, not even wonky pastinbin rumors and mysterious Twitter accounts have ever sprung up to claim such things.

EDIT: Sony was never going to do the anti used games thing as a default console setting, because second hand sales in Japan are a huge part of how games are distributed and no major Japanese publisher would want to use it on their own market, they would get railed worse than likely anything you have seen yet in the "west".

In any case, Sony are being smart/slimey (or both) in allowing Microsoft to take all the bullets, by simply saying "its up to the publishers!" they get none of the backlash, but still get EA to make games for them while EA gets their wish. Japanese publishers can do their own thing and everyone is happy. It is probably what Microsoft should have gone with in the first place.

Why people insist in "what if sony does the same error as microsoft" if they were clear that they arent going to do it? Guys, microsoft is not perfect, asking questions with obvious responses is not going to make it less of an error...

This only takes into the account the times that you as a customer lose internet connectivity, what would happen if its MS losing internet availability of their servers? What will happen when a major release launches and nobody is able to authenticate? Not even offline play is what will happen.

i don't think they will do the online checks anytime soon. sony relies on developing countries for sales too, and restrictions like that are just not feasible.

the used game thing is definitely possible. they are in business to make money, just like microsoft. it's exactly why we should all make a fuss now. it's not about microsoft. they just happen to be the first ones pushing this. if it's successful, the others will follow.

I know I sure wouldn't jump on either PS4 or XboxOne very soon.
Would wait to see how things develop and the like. Since i'd easily have my PC to keep me company.

it was just one occasion though and i didn't even get pissed off. I still use steam! :)

Sony won't do this to their fans. They aren't an american company. The focus on tv is really strange for the xbox. Aren't most people cutting the cable in place of on demand types of networks, netflix, hulu etc?

I can live without console

Since Sony is taking an "it's up the the dev's" approach, I would imagine we'll get a mixture of games that are doing the "same" thing XBO will be doing. IF that's the case, I won't be buying those games. If 90% of the games coming out are like that, I might actually get a WiiU.

This is my bet as well. Sony will allow publishers to do whatever they want regarding always online, but they aren't directly supporting it.

If they go in that direction then I think EA and Ubisoft will latch onto the practice, but (strangely) activision won't.

They allowed it on PS3 (well PSN) and there's a total of 2 games that use it. I think they both bombed.

I feel ya, but you could still use the platform (your PC) with games that you physically owned and what not. This, however, would render the Xbox one practically useless except for watching Blu-ray discs. Could you even do that? Would the console be rendered useless after 24 hours without an internet check-in?

Well they might or might not. I think they are going to probably take whatever advantage they can and not enforce such a policy on consumers, but it doesn't mean that their dev/pub partners won't. We will be hearing more about this during their conference I'm sure.

No that's the thing I couldn't! I have physical copies of Chronicles of Riddick Dark Athena, Mirror's Edge (and more of course). I was trying to install those two, I couldn't do that because both required a CD key authentication via an internet connection....

If Sony wants to bury Microsoft, it is a question they should be answering right now. Cut through the bullshit and ambiguity and put it all out there. The longer they take the clarify this, the more people will believe that they are letting third parties take exactly the same approach on the PS4.

Agree with you, EA and Ubisoft are likely thrilled, they get their wish from both console manufacturers, but Microsoft eats all the bullets and negative press, while Sony just raises their hands in the air and walks away with no scratches, the blame goes to publishers instead.

It would be very interesting to see how publishers that support always online and all this go against publishers that don't, FIFA series has been killing PES the last couple of years in sales, but how would they do on PS4 if one is always online and the other one is not? This way consumers get to vote what they want

I fully expect Sony to have some sort of DRM built into their console. They have so far remained alarmingly vague on their used games policy.

Then I won't be buying one anytime soon, just like the Xbox One. Will wait for a bunch of price drops and maybe even buy a Wii U way before I own a ps4. Possibly even get into PC gaming as some of the big advantages of console gaming are being taken away.

I'm pretty interested in the PS4, and will actually be disappointed if I'm not able to install games and play them without a disc. That's one of the reasons I love Steam.

If this DRM shit is the cost to get that then fuck it.

Are we really that lazy that we can't switch games?

I think that's simply because the Yoshida quote everyone refers to can in fact be interpreted that way. The articled linked by Pennywise is thankfully much clearer about this. But the doubt is still understandable and quite a bit more rational than simply "believing". This is pretty fucking important for people who like to play older games too. No one with half a brain should take it on faith, obviously.

You already can it's called day 1 digital.

I'm afraid Sony is going to follow suite with blocking preowned games. I just find it hard to believe Microsoft would be this bold without knowing the playing field was even.

I also wish people would stop with the "PC IS KING" stuff.

It always comes down to the games...to me the PC doesn't have a ton of games I want to play. That's why people play console games for the exclusives. They kinda outnumber the PC.

I may just be salty that when I finally got a machine that can run stuff the Steam sales sucked dick tho.

Where is my 10 dollar Skyrim guys..

no seriously..where is it..i have money to waste/spend.
