What's E-Privilege a reference to? I thought it was a DRM-thing.

Read this.

Then read this.

There are lots of posts inbetween you can read too.

BTW FatboyRoberts, I totally understand where you're coming from regarding being condescending without realizing it. I do that sometimes and it's mostly with good intentions but with bad execution. Most of the times it's just because I'm kinda old and I've been through some shit and I think I can give people advice at some stuff because I want my experiences to at least help other people. Sometimes I get it right, sometimes I'm ignored, and some other times it backfires and I don't realize it until it's too late. We old people should know better! :(

WTF seriously? well I'm sure it's mostly because you could pick them at the arcades but it's almost like having akuma with his own character box(and no code needed) in ST...

It could be that they're just BananaKen's friends and whatnot, since he's a local, yet they're not very familiar with someone from New Jersey.

Ah, yeah I understand.

The ballroom UFGT9 was held in was split up. It seemed like UFGT9 got about 75% of the ballroom, and then there was a wall border put up to block off the other 25%. What was going on there?

A wedding reception.

So while two folks are getting married, they get to hear people shouting "pop offs", swearing, etc. I would have been very upset if that were me. It's an important day to have to share a very loud event with.

The contrast in people walking down the ballroom hallway was amusing though. Suits and dresses vs. videogame shirts. I can see where the commentary is going.

BTW DoritosPope claims that there might be some form of DRM on the PS4. Most likely going to be a publisher choice thing.

For the first time in my life I am not exactly jazzed about the upcoming console generation.

This is the first time an upcoming console launch has felt like a U.S. presidential election. It's straight up giant douche vs. turd sandwich. You can pick the less shitty one, but neither choice is any good.

You'd hear the same thing at a lot of competitive events, maybe the couple should research their venue better next time if it bothered them. I don't know why you would hold a wedding reception in the same ballroom as where any sort of event was being held if you were worried about distractions.

You can always move to Canada with the rest of the PC gamers. Come on over. We've got Poutine, bagged milk and more RAM than you shake a stick at.

I look forward to the inevitable Kinect 2 fighting game appearing in the UFGT mystery game tournament, though, after the DDR SC2 matches. You'd even need to call out your attacks, just like a real anime.

PC is awesome and I plan to transition more toward mostly PC gaming, but it'll be tough to not get one of the new consoles since as far as fighting game makers are concerned, PC gamers are second class citizens :( (Lab Zero aside). I do want to start playing Skullgirls though. The voting campaign and Karst's recent positive impressions have convinced me to put some time into it.

No doubt

It's a tough sell since there is no real proof things are going to improve with these fighting game publishers. Everyone but Capcom and Lab Zero Games are going to get dragged there kicking and screaming.
What is this hullabaloo?

I've tempered my expectations for next gen. Right now, there are no real next gen games that just make me giddy for next gen like last time around. E3 will have both Sony and MS going mad with games so maybe it will pick up then.

This is essentially my shortlist of next-gen-exclusive games I'm interested in:
- Infamous: Second Son (looks like crap, details are promising though with the smoke twist which is really cool)
- Forza Motorsport 5 (looks pretty, I have faith in the studio that they will make significant gameplay improvements like they usually do)
- Drive Club (Looks really pretty, kinda soulless ATM but I've no doubt having plenty ex-Bizarre staff on the team will make for good gameplay)
- The Witness (Curious about the puzzle mechanic, art has grown on me since reveal)
- Cyberpunk 2077 (Mostly art curiosity and what they do with the system, don't know if I'd actually play it)

None of those I am actually dying to play, and there are far more cross-gen titles I'm hyped for like Destiny. Plus with desperate hopes now going to PGR5 being on 360 due to recent information, it's looking increasingly like it will be easier to wait out next gen.

Microsoft has fucked up so bad I'm actually considering not playing a Halo game again, and that's incredible to even me because of how much of a Halo fangirl I am.

Just get a 3DS.
What does this accomplish? Is it going to play my DMCs?? My MVCs? My MGSs? My Tekkens? Handhelds do not provide the same as console experiences. Plus superior tech... I am ready for it.

The best alternate right now for high end games is a PC, pure and simple. I see myself being PC only for about a year now.

The only thing that will make me support these garbage DRM practices is if DMC5 is announced, fully featured. Anything less I will not get anti-consumer product for. DMC is my one true weakness but anything else I put on hold.

You can play Tekken on the 3DS.
I used to play Tekken 5 DR a lot on my PSP back in the day but even then that was not a fully satisfactory experience despite the game itself being spectacular. Handheld is just not a format I am comfortable with playing FGs on. I say the same for a DMC game on a handheld.

This is the crux of it right here. We all have our breaking point, and I'm sure most, if not all gamers will wade through the shit to play what they have to play.

I definitely know mine, it's either MvC4 or PGR5. Either of those will force my hand.

Also 3DS is secret best platform out right now. I can't afford all these awesome games coming out for it.

Eh Next Gen ain't all that.
Though Tekken X Street Fighter might sway me to get a PS4, though I'll resist the urge as best I can.

Where you at?

Australia. Every time I hear about how good the 3DS is it is because of games that don't even have a release date yet :| Compare to the DS which was godlike from about day 1.

Meanwhile Penny arcade read the GAF FGC threads today? That timeliness....

Beowulf looks even worse than Filia, and that's saying something. I plan to do a lot of forum reading when I get some time in. Oddly enough, I want to catch up on what's coming out for the game in the future more than research my character at the moment. Brain Drain animating Painwheel made me even more sad that he's not in the game.

I meant that's a 20 minute theoretical drive. It's twice as long or more because of traffic jams in reality. Chicago has really bad traffic, and there's no way around it. :-(

Quoted from the old thread but if you want to follow it's development you can have a look at MikeZ's online to-do list.

95 Omega Rugal isn't the best character. Top but not best. Think Kyo, Heidern, Iori are top.
The MAX guard cancel makes genocide cutter much less of a threat.

I think that might change next-gen. Publishers may need all the sales they can get. I think Xbone may have a tougher time getting ports (at least of Japanese fighters) than PC.

If the Xbone has some sort of used game "solution" then I figure the PS4 has something similar. I don't see it happening any other way. Microsoft is just stupid enough to tip their hand first.

If it's just one or the other, I could probably be swayed if there was like, a Dark Souls exclusive or a Street Fighter 5 exclusive or something, as much as I don't want to admit it. Thankfully that probably won't happen and I don't give a shit about Halo or any Xbox exclusive stuff really, so I'll go with whichever one has the least draconian DRM BS. Or I'll just go PC/old consoles if they both suck too much. There are a lot of old, awesome games that I've never had the chance to play anyway.

There's too many reasons to not buy a console at launch anyways, especially since there's no backwards compatibility on either system and nowadays there will almost definitely be issues with the hardware. Might as well wait for the price to drop and the game library to build up, and in the mean time we can all work through our backlogs and maybe grind some of this gen's fighting games. There's been so many games that unless you're ChrisG you probably aren't very competent with half of them.

I'm expecting both consoles to have some sort of used game DRM. Both companies have patents for it. Plus I don't expect a situation where one console has this level of DRM and the other one doesn't when publishers have been clamoring for this for years because of how much money Gamestop is making.

It will be interesting to see if there's any changes come E3 given the overwhelmingly negative reaction people have to Microsoft's plans.

I'm expecting the big publishers to put the same games on both consoles. We should also see more PC ports given the change in console hardware. The only way I see the Xbone having a tough time getting ports is if the PS4 is clearly the favorite.

I'm still waiting a year before I buy a new console, unless there's a game coming out at launch that's a must have.

The Capcoms/NRS/Namcos of the world- they'll probably port to both (unsure about Namco, they're not one of the big boys anymore), the Arcs/Examus/SNKs- those will be PS4.

If this happens, the smaller games will influence the system sales of the FGC, and the bigger games will be predominantly on the PS4. If GG is the first "big" next-gen release, what it does will be huge (and I don't think they'll go cross-platofrm)

I'm waiting until VF6 myself, even that even comes out. The PS3 won't be dead for fighters for until at least 2015. SF4 update, and BBCP will make sure of that.
