The Last of Us Demo (GoW:A Exclusive) Discussion Thread

What is the best approach in the last scene, there are 5-6 clickers and in every scenario I could think of I needed to use my gun.

There's only one clicker. The rest are runners and you can take a decent beating from them, I just shot one and ran around meleeing the rest.

Sorry if this was already answered, but did anyone try playing without using listen/vision mode at all for their first run?

Short demo, but it was fun. Graphics are good, though seemingly less impressive than UC2/3, downgraded from what I remember earlier videos looking like though my mind may be sprucing it up more in my mind. But the atmosphere is GREAT, goes very well with the sound design.
The graphics are not downgraded from Uncharted 2/3. It's just a completely different art style. Technically this game is doing more with indirect and bounce lighting. The game is supposed to have the grim atmosphere and soft lighting comes with that. Uncharted is all about bright colors and lighting. It's just a different style. Uncharted is more unrealistic. I could see why Uncharted could look more impressive to some though.

Also Joel's character model >> Drake. A lot more detail. His beard and face look crazy good!

I dont understand peoples resentment towards QTE's. you miss a button prompt and die, that's on you. Every game is about pressing buttons and if you dont you die. I prefer it over a passive animation that plays out, at least I have some stake in my grapples ect.

As someone who has made character models/textures for games, the ingame char models for all characters is fucking nuts. I have no idea how they pulled that off and with such expansive environments. Just looking at Ellies face ingame I was stunned to see how much detail they maintained. Pros.

Joel looks great, it was more the other girl stood out a bit when it went close to her face(not ellie, but I forget her name).

But yeah, TLoU is likely doing a lot more technically. The lighting is fantastic.

I think we can all agree that this is not the level most of us were looking forward to trying though. Human AI is what impressed us, and we don't know if that truly lives up to what was shown at E3 last year.

Did anyone check out the crap in their inventory? There's a drawing of the 4 stages of infected and the final one (after the clicker) is torn out. :0

I was impressed with the game. The last section was pretty tense. You have to deal with about 5 zombies at one time and it's difficult to keep track of them all without listen mode. Died a few times. Melee feels really satisfying. There seems to be a lot of different animations. Lighting is amazing. Best flashlight ever? Not much else to say. It was disappointingly brief.

I have been blacking out since that impressive showing, have humans been shown in any other gameplay? It's worrying as AI advancement is huge for me, and I hope this game delivers on what they showed there.

How was the aliasing/framerate?

Those were really the only two things I have been concerned about the visuals based off the behind the scenes footage.

Framerate is completely solid. No drop anywhere. There's also no tearing present. There's certainly quite a bit of aliasing, but it depends on how sensitive you are about that stuff. I play the game on a 50 inch tv and am mostly used to pc games with a decent amount of AA. It still managed to impress the hell out of me. Take that as you will.

BTW, I believe everyone should play this game while just walking instead of jogging. It makes the game that much more immersive and it really fits the slower pace of the game.

We have people here who says it does,we watch a live stream last week and the ai was fantastic.

We have previews that say the ai is great as well.

A little digression but has ND said ballpark length in hours?

I remember them saying it's their longest game but haven't heard any numbers..

I just wanted to try it out for myself :(

Would also have added a hell of a lot more replay value!

So the disk doesn't need to be in the system while playing the demo?

That is correct fellow GAFfer, here it is if you need to make sure:

Framerate is rock solid. Didn't notice one tear or framerate drop. Even when I fought all 5 zombies at once. As far as aliasing it's mostly very good. Only intricate little things like fences do you notice it. Main large edges there none at all.

I don't even want to know how much there are, so please just to be Safe use Spoilers on at least everything that is NOT related to the demo fellow GAFfer.

I have spoiler tagged it but I have already spoiled you how many chapter they are........

Thats what I did too, running around and meleeing wasn't very economic, lost a lot of health and bullets, not to mention meleeing is awkward. Surely there is a more efficient way.

So the number of chapters in a game are now considered spoilers? Thats fucking ridiculous but okay.

It's a 'spoiler', I suppose. I wouldn't feel bad about it; the major spoilers will be comprised of content. It's just important to realize that some people want to know as little as possible going into the game. If there's anything new, spoiler tag it.

The melee has a lot of wind up, you have to start it fairly early to whack them before they get to you. You can do it without getting hit.

It's that or shoot, but it can be hard to headshot them given the way they move.
