Nah. It's still better than the PS3 debacle.

PS3:
1 year late.
$200 more expensive.
Weaker system at launch. Less memory, less bandwith, weaker gpu, harder to program for CPU.
No games.
Hot and huge.

So far Xbox only has only #3. It'll be fine.

And the 360 didn't run hot? How many RRODs happened in the first year? Sony wasn't late. MS rushed to the market and the hardware was garbage. The PS3 failure rate was minuscule compared to 360s.

LOL literally

So let me get this straight: Xbox fans are now going with Microsoft has a good chance at dominating the gen with comparisons to the PS2 era. Excuse me while I poop my pants.

Microsoft is in NO situation whatsoever, not in any fucking reality atm, that would make this true. Right now they are looking to the world like a confused, large juggernaut losing touch with its home base. If you think all the sudden that Jak and Daxters and shit is gonna start popping out of the box to sell millions and we are suddenly going back to the economy of 2000 where people were MUCH less informed about everything then you are fucking crazy.

Shit ain't happening. Halo is in decline. So is Gears. And Forza don't have shit over GT6. Troubled times are ahead for this company in gaming unless they show a LOT of games that are interesting. I still haven't counted them out but it's damn close. That machine looks shittier by the day.

I think anybody thinking that Microsoft would somehow dominate this upcoming gen are simply being shortsighted, but it is far from impossible that they could end up doing as good or even slightly better than is the case with the 360.

That said, Halo in decline? It's the best selling one in the franchise, and in my opinion, the best game in the franchise. I'm no fan of MP (always felt Halo MP was just hype, could never find what was so good about it), so I can't speak to whatever was done in that regard, but the campaign to me was incredible, and Master Chief and Cortana have honestly never been done more justice as characters than they were in Halo 4. Gears, I actually agree with you. I think that series has been in decline since after the first game. I thought the first one did some really nice things that hinted at some exciting future potential, but then with each sequel, it seemed to go in a direction that I thought wasn't to its benefit. But that's just me. Forza is a fucking amazing franchise. It's one thing to be a Gran Turismo fan, but to say Forza doesn't have shit on an unreleased game you haven't played? Forza has been competitive with Gran Turismo as a racing sim from day one, imo, even if they can't make nearly as awesome a trailer as PD :).

And I think Gran Turismo has a more realistic looking art style, whereas Forza's is more stylized (some say cartooney, I disagree), but I think it looks great nonetheless. And the gameplay is amazing, so, again, I just don't agree with it not having shit on GT.

And you say you aren't counting them out, but you coulda fooled me with comments like that about a game as strong as Forza. Either way, as much we love to follow all this stuff, it's really all about the games at the end of the day. A lot of people simply don't care about a lot of side issues that they don't feel affect their core enjoyment of games. If the games lineup looks strong and the games themselves when people look at them in action gets people excited, then Microsoft is fine, and all the fire and brimstone just ends up being noise. To be honest, a lot of this Microsoft doom and gloom is remarkably reminiscent of the 360 before launch (even though few will admit that these days), and even reminiscent of the 360 shortly after launch. It's always near impossible to win a fight, much less even be in the discussion when you're busy punching at the heavens, and that's what Microsoft now finds itself doing against the PS4, much like they were doing when up against what was then viewed as a much more powerful Playstation 3 at the time that was more advanced in almost every way.

I think once both systems are out and released, and we are a year or two in, we'll have a look back at the build up to launch and hopefully learn some valuable lessons for future console transitions (no way, circle of life and all that jazz!) Now, admittedly, the PS4 is clearly the stronger console this time around. There's no denying this, and it isn't as complex to develop games for, but (and I've said this many times) Xbox One is also easier to develop for than the 360 was, and ultimately the games always have the final say. Games have been more responsible and instrumental to the success or failure of game platforms than any other factor, and that especially includes hardware specs.

Diving headfirst into every negative sounding rumor, completely working ourselves into a frenzy will easily make it look like there's a 5 alarm fire over at MS HQ. It isn't hard to do, I've seen it many times before. And like I said before, I still absolutely stand by what I said, nothing has changed since last night, but isn't it interesting how quickly the fact that a very similar thing was mentioned regarding possible gpu downclocks etc happening to the PS4 also, and yet that part of the rumor has been swept under the rug about as quickly as it popped up? Now, I genuinely believe thuway really heard this from somebody, and he said Sony devs told him that the PS4 is fine, even though someone else also told him that the PS4 could face downclocks also (something I don't see happening *my opinion*), but what exactly would Microsoft developers say? Would anything they have to say even mean anything at this point, or would it just be Microsoft devs doing what they are paid to do, and that's defending the console? It just seems negative news is always greeted with more wide open arms compared to the positive. That isn't to say no MS devs would have any criticisms of decisions made, but we are missing a pretty big part of the picture regarding Xbox One. Microsoft did their reveal, but they didn't exactly open up the floodgates. They just admitted the thing exists.

Well, the positive news is that E3 is 5 days away. Developers will talk on both sides and, best of all, we will see real games, even though some folks already seem prepared to disregard anything impressive shown by the Xbox One as simply smoke and mirrors running on some mystery hardware that couldn't possibly have anything to do with real Xbox One hardware. Nothing can be done about that. On to E3 it is!

The PS3 turned things around after a terrible start. Doesn't them having a great start and MS having a bad start make it seem like things will go a lot worse for MS? I think the whole TV and Skype stuff have to be a big hit for MS.

Man, it's crazy to see people still rationalizing the mess that was PS3 when even Mark Cerny obviously feels it was exactly that. I'm a PS3 owner but I don't pretend that Sony didn't fuck up hard with that system.

That said, One may shape up to be a bigger mess.

They fucked up and recovered brilliantly through smart planning, strategy and execution.

Microsoft has this same chance, because it's clear at this point that the Xbox One could be a bigger blunder than the PS3 launch...time will tell if Microsoft can pull themselves out of it. Maybe they are right, and the leverage they gain through the TV/Kinect appeal of the console will carry the weight for them.

Since I'm in the OP, I might as well say that I completely stand by what I said and feel the person that informed me of this is as reliable as it possibly gets on the Xbox One. I feel a source doesn't get more accurate than this.

If it turns out wrong, feel free to perma ban me. Although, if I'm wrong, which I really, really doubt, I throw myself on the mercy of the court.

Who am I kidding? Gaf? Mercy? Still, I take full responsibility for what I said, and I absolutely stand by it. :)
So the insider was your ass?

Your punishment must be more severe.

Wow. It is hard to believe they would be caught with their pants down so far into the 360 generation. You would think they had plenty of time for these consoles to be as great as their vision demanded. How could they screw up the architecture to be less powerful yet harder to manufacture? Honestly this kind of tech should have come out last year. I could understand problems with yields if the Xbox was multiple soc super misterxbox but this shit if really true is unacceptable.

It should be really interesting to see what happens at E3 developers have been clamoring for more powerful hardware for a good while now. If Microsoft really is shipping something that will run these games much worse, or in some cases maybe not at all (?) Then the PS4, I wonder how the developers will feel about it.

We already had that Dice dev confirming Sony had the hardware advantage, as others already have been doing for awhile now. Its surprising some still think that nothing can hurt Microsoft, or the Xbones chances despite this PR nightmare thats drowning them right now. Games will help sure, but once people get these home, start comparing with their friends who have PS4s, run into online only problems, used game issues, or System failures within the first year the shit storm is going to bury them.

I think allot of people underestimate the power of word of mouth aswell to be honest. When third parties show games on Xbone, and Sony shows their first party stuff, combined with any locked third party stuff it should be interesting to see reactions if things sway heavily in Sonys favor.

Unless Microsoft demos their games on a PC behind the curtain.

End of the year, it will be a gaming console vs a gaming capable set top box, how in the world have we come to this, read somewhere people predicting these to be the last days, or final generation, of consoles, I'm slowly starting to believe it.

Why, why, WHY would anyone do that, WTF is the reasoning behind that video?????
I have seen a lot of disturbing material on the internet but this is among the God-tier.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!

You should have used a spoiler tag warning or something! The depravity...really..on so many levels.

It's like having 200 mud packs at once. Does wonders to the skin if you don't mind the smell...

Fire and brimstone is more than just this shit though. At this point there is absolutely no game that will impress me enough to take the dive into the XbOne for a couple years at least. I was ready to buy both, I even got hyped and changed my avatar for the XbOne reveal.

I'm just one raindrop is a storm though.

can we even construe this as MS having a bad start so far though?

We really need to see software, pricing, and a launch date. A bunch of kids on GAF getting angry about always online doesn't act as any sort of predictor of success or failure for MS.

Things that DO matter:

Software, Price, Marketing, Launch Date

And really, we know almost none of those things other than the fact that MS will market it to death.

Also if anyone still remember PS3 also changed ram amount before release. It supposed to have 256MB only but Epic convinced MS to get 512MB and Sony needed to change design plans late into cycle and made console without UMA (which was big boost for xbox)

Really funny.

DAT 3RD CONSOLE CURSE!!!

saturn, n64, ps3, xboner

all had an awesome predecessor and then they just blundered.

who the hell designed the xboner? MS better have a rabbit up their ass for e3.

If this was december, and somehow you posted that this is what would unfold, nobody would have believed. You would be banned for posting so much crap.

The Sony camp went from "accepting the fact that PS4 will be weaker but still have good games" to "beating on the dead horse", or whatever the saying is.

It´s one colossal fuck up after another, it´s stuff for the ages. I´m also very interested on the book about this two or three years from now.

Not even the biggest Sony fanboy could have written a script like this.

Sometimes it seems like a bad joke on Microsoft´s part.

I seem to remember when a lot of 'insiders' claiming that the PS4(Orbis) and XBone(Durango) were practically twins and would be on "par" With each other.

What the fuck happened?

Sony did a Sega. Remember Sega doing the illusion with 3dfx and Hitachi? Sony could have easily did a more public gleam with ATI where they were showing the same shit that Microsoft had, but secretly were working on something more powerful and more long term then them.

Well honestly at first glance, the architecture seems so similar. But PS4 doubled their RAM at the last minute to the point that even developers that were working on games were not aware of the change and then closer inspection of the types of RAM, BUS speeds, etc came out.

It seems like it was this way at one point, but Sony started increasing the specs and essentially caught Microsoft sleeping

Can someone fill me in on how this is fact and not still merely speculation? Just seems like people go all in on these rumors and we get the "more bad news for MS!" posts when we're not even sure what is true.

I've heard of relaunches but needing one before the actual launch is really something. MS are on fire.
After sitting and thinking for a bit, I've realised this rolling clusterfuck needs a culminating point. Something so cray-cray, it makes the mind break.

Picture this: German federal investigators discover headcount, biometric and object-recognition algorythms in the Kinec2.0's code. EU-wide Xbone ban. MS is fined two billion euros. Hirai laughs maniacally for a good 15 minutes, then resumes sacrificing black kittens to the dark gods.

This is incredibly discouraging, especially given that the system probably will be successful anyway. The xbox dominates in the world's biggest market, is in second or third place worldwide, depending on who you ask (sold, not shipped), and has been on an upward trend relative to the competition for a couple of years (brand recognition is really high, especially in the U.S.).

They can leverage that brand awareness, a good marketing plan, and some clever game associations (the console as THE home for COD) into success, which in turn will drag down the entire market.

That alone is discouraging. What adds insult to injury is that we'll never know what might have been possible with some of their major franchises. I would quickly buy any console solely for proper next gen versions of:

Crackdown
Halo
PGR
Forza

That's all I need to plunk down $400-500. Everything else is gravy. But I don't know if I'll do it for half-assed upgrades.

Insiders were lying which is why a lot of people like Gies now are not insiders anymore. On other hand this confirmed thuway is legitimate and joined small circle of legitimate insiders which gaf may trust.

It's funny how MS made the exact same mistake that Sony made with the PS3.

The Xbox side of the company has really gone directionless without Allard.

The sources on our board - five or six - all agreeing on this information. These sources, our insiders have put their accounts on the line in the past with having insider information and they've all been confirmed to have contacts or have legit information.
