So does this mean we will get to hear Jack Bauer in the new smash bros game if snake returns as a playable character? As a huge 24 fan, that would be amazing

Stuff like this is why it's dumb going after a big name like Kiefer.

There's no way they'll want to spend the money it'd cost to get him in for Smash. And what happens if they want to do another lower-budget game like Peace Walker? Just nailing him down for sequels in general is going to be a bit of a pain in the arse for them.

How much is Kiefer going to cost? The only thing that would bother me is that they blow so much money on him that other parts of the game will suffer to keep it on budget.

Well, good thing they're doing facial capturing too so they can actually "act" and not just read lines of a script. That ought to help some, right?
maybe.
I know anytime animated movies try to get a big name traditional actor they always end up the worst acted of everyone in it.

Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic are the only ones I have seen do well recently.

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
A big reason I love this franchise is because I've grown attached to the characters. It's not Metal Gear Solid without Hayter. It just isn't.

Metal Gear. Metal Gear 2. And in Metal Gear Solid 4 where Big Boss is voiced by Richard Doyle.

Of course however, now that Hayter has seen fit to act like a total baby and burn all professional bridges, if there are ever Metal Gear remakes following Solid Snake, he might not be VA in those either!

MGSV is a big difference. Big Boss is experiencing either PTSD or early onset dementia. Both of these are things Hayter cannot voice convincingly without you sort of thinking its all a big joke. Kiefer can.

...uh, since when? I really can't remember a time when Hayter embarrassed himself with a botched line, or something, and I can't think of any time that Kiefer Sutherland has really impressed me at all. They're both famous for playing gravelly, one-note soldiers :p

For the record, I'm still going to play MGSV a million times and probably love it, but I just don't buy the idea that Sutherland is going to bring some kind of class or prestige to the series. He's not Daniel Day Lewis, he's the guy with the husky voice from that one show.

Found something interesting. This video was posted on March 27th this year. The guy in the bandages, might be me but I can't pick up what his name is, sounds exactly like Kiefer Sutherland. The player character, "Snake", doesn't sound like him at all.

Also, Geoff Keighley tweeted this:

"And yes, that was Kiefer's voice in the Phantom Pain VGA trailer way back in December."

It's all a bit strange. I still think we're either being trolled or just not being told the whole picture. Probably the latter.

Ishmael is probably an hallucination. Psycho Mantis is in the house after all. In the trailer Ishmael doesn't do much, he even let Snake drive the ambulance even if he just got out of coma. Outside of giving him the shot he doesn't help or touch Snake either.

Sutherland isn't new to VA and IMO he's a good actor overall. I think it'll be ok for the game and series itself. The odd/vague tweets from Hayter are interesting pseudo drama though....

this show is not Breaking Bad why is it not Breaking Bad? it should be Breaking Bad dammit Breaking Bad
It wasn't like I would never get this game. I was always planning on getting it because KOJIMBO.

I don't mind it. It's not like it'll make a difference.

Don't want to rub it in, but we were 90% sure it was Keifer for months already. This is not really a surprise, just a confirmation.

If Kojima isn't an idiot he'll bring Hayter back for such games.

You haven't even played the game yet. You don't know what you're talking about.

If Hayter isn't in it I know exactly what I'm talking about.

Hayter's Snake voice is iconic and part of the franchise so I'm bummed about this. I hope they ditch all the quirkiness now that Snake is voiced buy some big shot Hollywood guy, who'se paycheck is probably 10 times the size Hayter's. All those weird codec calls etc. are part of what makes the games so good.

Kiefer has a nice voice, though. And I enjoyed his performance in World at War.

Kiefer is definitely just as exited about MGS and cares about it as much as Hayter. Why just look at each one's Twitter.

You realize that actors aren't always at liberty to talk about their projects until given the go-ahead, right? Marketing. PR. NDA's. Contracts. Look it up.

I've never watched 24 so I don't have an overexposure to Kiefer's voice, though I do instantly recognize him in commercials and such. As much as it sucks for David Hayter losing the job and as much as he is the Snake many have come to love, this will probably be a higher caliber of voice acting. I only hope that if the MGS door has closed for Hayter that this will afford him other opportunities to expand his career and success.

That's not fun now, is it? They're video games. Ever have a band you like replace a member? Did you stop listening?

Some people take this stuff too seriously, must have some pretty vapid lives.

Okay well I guess I'll miss hayter but I don't really care as much since it's big boss and not solid snake...unless I missed something recently.

If the game was staring Solid Snake and it wasn't Hayter then I might have an actual problem with this.

Didn't you hear? there aren't any codec calls.

No more love box dialogues. Thanks.

Gotta love all the people thinking Kiefer is doing Solid Snake´s Voice forgetting the fact that Kojima in the video says "Snake" is 49 years old.

He´s Big Boss, Solid will be in this game and maybe Hayter too, if he can pull of a 12yr old voice.

Hayter's voice and noises in MGS4 were comical, not sympathy inducing which is what the plot kinda wanted. Hell, the noise he makes when getting hit in multiplayer makes it sound like he's saying GABBO over and over again.

Sutherland is a class of actor far above Hayter. Hell, 24 is coming back almost exclusively off of the strength of his character in that show. Scenes where Jack cries are pretty damn heart-wrenching. Hayter has never had that effect on me at any point. The most emotional moment in MGS for me is MGS3, with a silent salute, or Richard Doyle's "this is good". That kinda says a lot.

Apart from the dialogue at the start? "What happened to the woman?" They both sound like they're being voiced by Sutherland.

He also says "Who are you?" to which Ismael replies "I'm.... we've been watching you for 10 years..."

Both voices sound like Kiefer to me.

I'm reading his tweets in his (and Snake's) voice... but him saying "yay!" is throwing me off.

My only wish is that they expand the script from Snake saying "*The thing you just say as a question*...?"

In the "live" conference, Kojima said something like

In previous games, Snake would say, 'Kaz, are you ok?" Here we would say, 'Kaz?' I want to express emotions through Snake's facial expressions and vocal performances"

Is Kojima finally learning that MGS4's Snake said more with his face in a single motion then 10 minutes of philosophical spiels and exposition? Subtlety!?

If Hayter isn't an idiot, he'll stop burning bridges and allow Kojima to do such a thing.

I would hope Kojima is at least smart enough not to take twitter comments so seriously. The only way Hayter would be "burning bridges" right now is if Kojima is taking twitter seriously. That would make him a joke.

Yes or no question.

Have you played the game?

That's not relevant to what I said.
