I mentioned this before a ~week ago in some other thread but do you guys think Titanfall can attract the mass dudebro market? It's unfair to call that whole CoD/Madden crowd dudebros but just for the sake of conversation let's call them that.

I call them the uneducated Americans. Those who can barely afford the rent but need to have an Internet connected and a Live account to play CoD with their friends all night long.

It's probably at both.

Trailer at MS event with a bit of talk about it (Microsoft Platforms exclusive) and not much else. "Look forward to a live gamplay demo coming up at EA's event!" or something like that thrown in.

Gameplay at EA event. Game shown running on PC. News stating game will launch on PC and X1.

That's harsh and unfair. It's painting a massive group of people with a wide brush.

As a CoD fan, was kinda hoping Respawn's new game would be an even better version. I like sci-fi, but not mechs or long frag times. I do hope CoD gets some competition next gen.

there is a lot of butthurt in this thread.

ps4 owners will get it in 1 year if cboat is to be believed, and at this point, who doesn't believe him?

holy shiit. i encountered this a lot when i was working retail part time a while back. no priorities at all. hell, they would resort to eating some really cheap and shitty food after they checked their bank accounts daily.

...and yet call in sick to go to the midnight launch of the next call of duty and have the budget to afford xbox live scrip and the game

Right, EA only has like 10 games to show if even, so they have a lot more time to work with.

This is why MS will never allow free online play. Millions of people are hooked. Online play costing money has become a normal ideal for them.

Clicked on link excited to see a Warhammer 40k game with Titans.

Found out said game is not a 40k game, but is about big robots called Titans.

Will bookmark with popcorn bucket when Games Workshop finds out about this.

Who's presentation is first? I don't recall the exact times but I thought MS was on the first day?

MS goes first at 10am PST on Monday, with EA going at 1pm (I think?). I'm 100% certain that Microsoft would not pass up the opportunity to at least show a trailer for it at their event at E3 since it is (a timed) exclusive to their system. EA will get the stuff we really care about (gameplay) giving MS the opportunity to put it on a pedestal and say "It's ours."

haha that's pretty funny because of how so many guys in respectable careers like medicine, law and business play all the dudebro games because they're too busy with their real life and responsibilities to develop a """hardcore""" taste.

If this game relies on the xbone cloud, how can it work on a PC? Does that mean windows titles are also going to have access to the "cloud" ? Or the cloud stuff is just marketing BS?

Sounds about right. Shame about the exclusivity though. I don't think I'll purchase an Xbone and I suck at PC shooters. On the other hand I'll get to see/hear impressions of the game without falling behind the progression curve.

Kinda like those awful Nintendo fanboys and their twitter terrorism, ami rite bro?
(I agree with you by the way - I just find your statements often extremely ironic)

So.. If MS is going to promote their cloudstuff with this game and in a year it will also release on PS4, does it mean MS doesn't really have that big advantages because of the cloud?

A "cloud" is a serverfarm that works with any device connected to the internet. Though EA may have to provide their own servers for the PC version.

Got to agree with this point. Amongst people I know in "upper-end" careers (with the notable exception of computer/software engineers) practically none are serious gamers. If they do play, it's the generally the dudebro titles, or something that really becomes a cultural touch point (think CoD, madden' wii sports, rockband). They'd look down upon most posters in GAF as the nerdy, never amounted to much type.

Not to mention most people are listening to Microsoft and assuming that using Azure for cloud computing will make for massive real-time gaming brawn. Which is exactly what it won't provide.

If it's used for anything other than game servers or offloading livestream encoding a-la BLOPS 5 years from now I'd be shocked.

When my buddy told me a huge mech game was coming to Xbone/PC, I immediately thought, hoped, it was Chromehounds 2. I'll never-ever-ever get that I guess. :(

This maybe interesting. Glad it's on PC. Wonder how they're going to utilize the "cloud" on PC, as in, sign in a MS account to use their servers or what?

Also:
GI points how that the Xbox One has 5GB of GDDR3 ram available to devs, whereas PS4 has 8GB DDR5 ram, and asks if that's a problem for Respawn. He says they're having trouble even using the 5GB efficiently with all the new architecture tricks.

Wow...

Dedicated Servers run Linux or Windows.

I used the Battlefield 3 example earlier.

A player shoots a rocket at a wall, the servers calculate the damage to the wall, and then transmit that data to the clients. Not difficult, been doing that for years.

This is what Microsoft describes as the 'Infinite Power of the Cloud™'

I'm thinking with the game being more sci-fi and having MECHS(!) I have my doubts this will be the roaring success Respawn and EA are hoping for. Dudebros (18+) don't like unrealistic games with sci-fi weapons and settings. Before you say Halo, I consider that more of a 12-17 age group game than a dudebro game. I've talked to people who only CoD/Battlefield and Madden and I've asked them why don't you don't try X game and it's always that's it's too unrealistic, cartoony, corny, etc.

Halo's sales are dropping, by the way. That's probably franchise fatigue but it also could be just that sci-fi shooters like that are falling out of favor. CoD and Battlefield are the top dogs. I don't think Titanfall is a guaranteed blockbuster franchise. Might just sell a couple million. I hope I'm wrong, I love sci-fi.

Edit- couple million is prob too conservative, change that to 3-4 mil, like a Borderlands type of success, but not the 10, 15 , 20 million CoD and BF sell now.

Says who? An army of analysts once said modern combat games wouldn't sell either. "Dudebros" want compelling gameplay and friends to play with. CoD has, at a minimum, satisfied that last part.

Why do you keep posting this over and over, it's a little bit misleading. It's like saying yeah it's just a car...so what if it's a 2014 Ferrari...it's a basically a car same as my 2003 nissan. Yeah it's servers but saying it's the same as a single dedicated server running BF3...not true.

Server side eh? I'm really looking forward to console owners getting to experience the joy of a SimCity launch themselves.

Do you have proof or a source? Or have you just bought into PR buzzwords?

I'm just going off what Game Informer has said, where the servers will be performing physics calculations. Which lines up with what occurs on any other dedicated server.

Not sure if serious.

Was CS:GO Source?

I'm just trying to gauge where my hype should at a game using Source.

yea it was source and it looks ok.

IMO the best looking source game is Team Fortress 2 on PC and that's because of the art style. I think Left 4 Dead 2 also looks good but I haven't played it yet

Main benefit of Source:
1080p
60 FPS locked
8X MSAA (I maxed out TF2 with my old 5850 1 gig card)
Lots of stuff happeneing on screen without slowdown

The only con of source is bad textures

Source (on PC) is usually so CPU heavy though - How will that factor in?
