Its a lot better but still some issues. Some comments:

I have some questions as well.

1) Why are there swords on every map? Teams of camo all sprinting on Solace with swords.
2) Why are 50% of games on Forge maps? Its not that they are that bad but the framerate sucks. Is there a way to push Skyline etc in IS?
3) Since the auto's got a buff the Saw needs to go. I dont know how many times I run by a camper, camo with a Saw and I don't even turn around because of stopping power.
4) idk how the DMR got nerfed, seems fine to me. Is what it is I guess.
5) Fuck these needlers all over the place. Rockets/Snipers as static spawn. Needlers are instant kills for camo/jet packers. At least there doesnt need to be multiple static needlers on the maps.
6) The playlists are all over the place. Pro, IS, they are all mixed up. They need a BTB Pro. I hear people asking what the difference is in game.

On another note Throwdown is awesome I just can't play it because I get shit on. If the game was built around it I think the skill gap would be better but if you go in there solo you will get crushed.

Why the hell did 343 put a FRG on Solace? it's broken as shit.

Needs tuning. I had a situation last night where the first time I picked it up I had 4 easy kills. The next time I corners a guy before the ramp down to sword spawn (he was against the wall) I hit him 4 times, the splash damage alone should have taken him out. Its almost like those shots just weren't registering.

That's nothing. I've played 25-0 games in Team Doubles back in Reach and people have seriously messaged me telling to "stop whoring the power weapons." I'm like, "do you want me to give them to you instead?"

Cost us the match just now. Instead of sticking the guy right in front of me I gave the enemy team overshield, which they then used to push up with SAW.

Nothing ever fucking goes right in this game.
 
The BR does feel inconsistent, but it might be because of my connection.

Single shot precision weapons > burst fire

More focus needs to be on the DMR and changing it to the Halo 1 Pistol IMO (same auto aim and bullet magnetism but with one more shot to kill) while changing the Light Rifle to the current DMR. Then make the strafe better, make a beta playlist to test out these changes and call it a day.


Halo 1 Pistol:
  • Kills in 3 shots - 0.6 secs
  • Average kill for really good players was 5-7 shots - 1.0-1.4 secs
  • Very difficult to use

Halo 4 BR:
  • Kills in 4 shots - 1.43 secs
  • Average kill for many players is 4-6 shots - 1.43-2.1 secs
  • Much easier to use and land minimum shots to kill


So if they brought back the Halo 1 Pistol through the DMR, added one more shot to kill and made the strafe better, we'd have a successful single shot weapon with a high skill curve that allows for faster kill times.

As it's still a closed beta for WP8 users, we were wondering if it was okay to make a free shoot & jump game using the Halo universe, or were we wasting our time working on it if it will be banned from the market by Microsoft and 343 Industries the day it will be available?

We showed the game to Dan when he was in France, seems to be okay, but it's always better to have multiple confirmations.

I'm trying so hard to like this game but I can't. It's that bad. I spent $500 dollars on Halo 4 and it is hands down the biggest waste of money I've ever spent. There is so much stupid shit in this game that prevents it from being fun. I'm done with this game for now. If Halo 5 is this bad I don't even know what I will do.

As disappointed as I am in these recent Halo games, I really think Halo 5 will at the very least be better than Halo 4. It really isn't setting the bar high, so please don't freak out at me. This game was rushed as hell and was 343's first real game. Let's not forget Frankie's promise that H5 will be much better (FWIW) and also the inclusion of Bravo and Quinn to the team. Will AAs and Sprint be in H5? Most likely. Will it be a more polished experience with less random BS? I really do think so. Will there be more big maps? Very possible. Again, I'm saying H5 will in all likelihood be a better game than H4, not necessarily a good one.

Not the same subject, but could you go into more detail about Martys Halo themes and if they can be used in future titles?

His themes for mainline Halo games is a iconic and necessary as Jurassic Park, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, etc. I'm fine and will happily embrace new music and styles, but it feels very vacant without those themes (or an interpretation Halo Wars style) taking the foreground every now and then.

Halo 1 was the only Halo game that handled my brain well. My fingers work way too damn fast for every game after.. I used to run around punching walls while changing weapons and backpack reloading in Halo 1. Constantly moving, but if I do that in later Halo games it feels like it takes me an eternity to start shooting again (ie: going from a sprint to shooting).

Also, were 4sk's ever in montages in Halo 2/3 and 5sk's in Reach/4? Funny how a 3sk is like the highlight of many montages in Halo 1 because of how awesome it felt to actually get one LOL

I've been a fan since probably 2002. Played them all extensively. Even Halo Wars.

What mode do you spend most of your time in?

Right now I spend a ton of time in SWAT. Seems to be the most fun in Halo 4. Also out of the competitive scene, so I just like to relax and blast heads off nowadays.

What is your favorite playlist?

MLG/SWAT. Missing MLG in my life. Oh well.

I'm obviously a gamer. Used to hit local tournaments for Halo. Huge movie/tv watcher and amateur critic. I work on films with friends for fun. Had surgery a few years ago, decided to lose 60 pounds. I also enjoy sports, unless it's golf. I hate golf.


One more thing, just for Stinkles and whoever else is in Washington. If you want amazing Irish food, check out Terrible Beauty in dt Renton. Great corned beef, rashers, soda bread, everything. No, I don't work there...but I'm addicted to their food. Reminds me of my travels abroad.

How bout Team Slayer? I am sick of these slayer sub titles. Bring back a true Team Slayer and call it Team Slayer! Also how about a split ranked and social playlist. Halo 3 had it right all a long. Don't fix it if its not broken.

Seconded. Now, I may not be the best person to judge what's halo and what's not, but I don't want Halo 5 to be CE2. I want it to be CE + 2 + 3. Especially since 4 is 2 + Reach through and through.

Don't misunderstand what I mean by CE2.

Combat Evolved 2 would just be the way to GRAB the attention of ALL Halo fans. What they do with the game doesn't have to be a direct sequel to Halo 1, but it could be a perfect marketing strategy for bringing the Halo back to Halo. That could allow for a back-to-basics Halo to alternate between a hold-nothing-back Halo 5. Combine that with a new model of updating the game through things like F2P multiplayer or more frequent DLC and you could possibly have a smashing success.

Alternatively, if they just made a better way to match people up with what they want to play through a CGB and/or search filters, then that would be the ideal solution.. granted we also get tons of customization options unlike any other Halo.

I wouldn't be able to get on till later (like 11 CST), but I'd be fine with that. Just have to make four changes:

-get rid of Extraction Decals (I think)
-add in warpy Extraction crates
-Add glass covers to the lifts from Teleport Barns to Top Bases so you get sent into the base and not just up
-Line up spawns to coordinates

It'll probably find a sweet spot at 5v5-6v6.

1. A game thats that hardcore would fail miserably in population. Times have unfortunately changed and some of us are trying to fight against the casualization of the industry, but expectations need to be reasonable.
2. No auto aim, no melee lunge on a online console shooter? would be miserable.

I think you overestimate what that subtitle means to gamers.

They had no problem using this during the credits for the game.

Plus, they had already sampled the 'monks' and used them for the E3 2011 reveal trailer. They didn't use it because they didn't want to use what Bungie or Marty did. They wanted to make it their own Halo. That's why so many things have changed. Chiefs armor, Elites, jackals, ship designs, UNSC logo, etc.

'hey we'll just put this wailing as the menu music and hope longtime fans forget the old music, and then just for kicks, we'll also add this wailing to Halo Waypoint as well'.

There was very little reason for not using the music aside from they didn't want to, and wanted to use their own music/new guy.

This reminds me of Halo 4 apologist posts saying that previous game conventions are old hat and untenable in these modern times of bar filling.

But there's nothing inherently hardcore about CE, it was the original babby shooter game, but it also managed to be one of the most competitive of the bunch just due to happenstance and some actual tightness in the controls. It had potentially short kill times, but 3sk wasn't nearly as common as the 4sk/5sk of later Halos, the kill times were still manageable you just had actual dodging and shot misses to account for.

The game is probably the most accessible Halo because of how simple the ruleset is in comparison and how easily readable everything is.

Though there was a stern difference between how Halo CE came out and every other entry after that. I'd agree that anyone thinking either Bungie or 343 now would ever go back to that winning formula is delusional, it would imply some good decision making on their parts.

Because its not a winning formula lol. Yeah it was a babby shooter when it came out because it had quake and unreal as competitors.

Times have changed unfortunately. It's like the delusion people had if anniversary launched with halo 1 mp that it would have a bigger population than reach

In other news, I'm about to join a Halo CE tourney at a local gaming expo in like 15 minutes.

I'll summarize it.

flinch: makes long range fights inconsistent and frustrating. also allows snipers to dominate.

aas- makes combat frustrating and inconsistent. also just bullshit in general (pv, jetpack, etc).

loadouts- also makes combat frustrating and inconsistent. allows for unfair exploitation (requisition, ordnance priority, etc). plasma pistols and stickies ruin BTB and are annoying to go against.

instant respawn- makes combat a mess and is a clusterfuck.

slow shield recharge- allows for clean up kills everywhere

sprint- double melee, rushing with swords

personal ordnance- negates moving around the map in btb. why go get the sniper when you can just call it in?

in short, IT'S JUST NOT FUN!
