Halo 4 |OT2| TURBO

I like it, a lot. I mean the game isn't enough to make me play Halo and only Halo as it once was with the franchise, but the balancing update was a huge step forward. I literally like every change and has made the game more fun for me especially in game types with personal ordnance. You are better able to handle all the random shit you run across while playing.

The two shot melee fits perfectly within the update.

UHHHHHHHHGREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED

So just played mini slayer. Let's just say if I was on some serious drugs and a guy was leg humping me, it would probably be fun. Any other time is boring. I did manage to go 21-8

You just described all of my Halo sessions ever.

All of my HaloGAF sessions, too.

Sandbox update is wonderful, even the OP SAW. It might be easy to use but I feel like it barely chugged through shields before this update. Now it actually rips through both along the lines of the Halo 3 Sentinel Beam.

In BTB on Longbow each team gets a Scorpion and a Banshee now, but no Warthogs. This is one of the few changes in the Turbo era that I don't like. Longbow is an excellent map for hog driving. Am I wrong? I'm willing to be talked out of this by anyone who isn't on my ignore list.

There isn't a whole lot for the tanks to do on that map other than sit back, annihilate the Banshees, then get flanked and destroyed.

Most of the BTB Halo 4 maps are designed for Warthog duels, especially Longbow (I'd argue this is one of the better features of Halo 4's large maps.) There's lots of jumps and valleys. So yeah I don't think anyone can argue against you on that score.

Wait, Longbow has Scorpions now? It's not even a really open map. Just put in some BTB maps on Forge Island already.

I was watching the Destiny closed room demo again. I don't know, maybe Call of Duty has ruined ADS for me, but I was so turned off. Sprint to the room, ADS with the rifle, some kind of weird slide, melee knife, etc.

I was really let down by the destiny gameplay reveal during the sony press conference. The gameplay felt dry, the weapons just looked like toned down borderlands weapons (so did the enemies), actually the entire game just looks like a bigger scaled and more refined looking borderlands. And the person who was showing it off just sounded so fake the entire time (cant remember his name but the person who showed off odst and reach at e3 2009).

Yeah, it was kind of underwhelming. I wonder if Destiny will make Gearbox consider expanding on Borderlands in the next game. Perhaps have entire planets to discover
(which was also hinted at in Borderlands 2).

Activision presents, a Bungie Production, Destiny: BorderWorlds.

You guys mind if I post a UI proof-of-concept in here? It's 2% halo (I used Damnation for the sake of having a background) but I mostly just want to see what people think of it since I'm trying to branch out into UI work.

Make a thread for it in OT, you'll get better feedback.

Like Plywood said, make a thread. I'd definitely talk about it there, UI design is pretty interesting.

Mini Slayer is actually really entertaining, but it is not coming up very often. Covenant Swat and Forerunner Swat are funny but I don't see how anybody is ever going to use the plasma pistol or boltshot for those gametypes.

Not surprised at their decisions. Look at what they've done on Solace, for instance.

Wraith/Warthog/Ghost is all they needed but for some reason they're adding in more Gauss hogs, Scorpions and Banshees. (I left out Mantis for some reason, that is absurd right now)

You mean create it? Terrible map with wretched sightlines, an overabundance of height variation and unnecessary crap strewn around to inhibit movement, a giant eyesore in the middle of the map, and non-symmetrical bases.

Now with a shittier weapon choice.

Haven is the only stock map that has any quality for 4v4 encounters, which is at the very least one less than what Reach offered. I hope 343 hires better studios to outsource to for the next game.

I'm not even sure who made the maps. I believe CA did the Dominion ones, so that's Exile, Vortex, Meltdown, Longbow, and later did some DLC maps. I don't think they've ever went in depth on who created what, unless I missed something. Bungie did that with Halo 2 in their DLC map pack disc and had some of their creators discuss what made them do this, why they chose this vehicle, weapon, etc. Would be pretty interesting to see why they've felt to have 2-flag Complex in Halo 4, or why they think King of the Hill on Ragnarok was going to work out so well.

Wait, penises aside are you serious? I need help programming and 3D modeling, they're like the only two things I can't do. I know Ice is on board to program as well.

More than likely it'd be for CryEngine 3.

I don't mean to be a negative nancy, but do you have a fundamental understanding of the amount of work it is to create a 3D game? Ideas are cheap, the execution of them isn't.

I am excited for Halo 5 hype train. Halo 4 hype train was a fun ride until we played the game. With crazy barn leaks and 5 second clips to to watch over and over. Looking forward to something exciting is better then getting it for some reason.

I'll take anything over a gauss hog.

Hype and excitement for a game is always going to be more exciting than the game for some people, regardless of the actually quality of the final title.

Not necesarily true. I can list a handful of games I was hyped for that met/exceeded my expectations and hype.

The problem with Halo 4 is we went from Halo games from dedicated, seasoned, and talented studio with experience making them, to a brand new studio with no experience making them... Even if you set aside halo 4's gameplay, which a lot of us saw as a leap in the wrong direction, the game was still a dissapointment in the content of the package and I don't think even the mightiest slurper can defend that.

343 launched a game with unfinished file sharing and less gametypes and customization than its predecessor.

Was this because of time and resource constraints or was it intentional? We'll probably never know. Hopefully the team will use their lessons learned and nail halo 5

If the linearity, and AI are addressed in singleplayer, and ordnance is addressed in multiplayer, it really could be the best Halo game since Halo 3.With the new hardware I expect a very open singleplayer game with great physics effects and AI so that excites me.

As for Multiplayer I wonder if they will adopt the Titanfall approach of it tying into a story. (perhaps the next iteration of Spartan Ops)

Was saying some people, not everyone :) I would be interested in your list though, because my default mode is just *not* to get hyped for games and try and approach them without expectations as much as possible.

While I certainly recognize all the flaws in Halo 4, once I finished the game I was genuinely interested in where the story could go, given how wide open they left it and how many themes they introduced. That wasn't the case with Bungie's games, as we could always see where they were headed.

Even though I haven't played it it seems Last of Us is delivering. As for my list, off the top of my head,

Red Dead
GTAIV
AssCreed 2
Portal 2
Battlefield Bad Company 2
Skyrim

And... Halo 3

boltshot has a high rate of fire and can headshot

Yeah, I can see that maybe being a possibility. We went in with a big group and decided beforehand we would only use plasma pistols and boltshots and you are right boltshots can be very effective (not so with plasmas), but I wondered how well they would hold up against lightrifles at range. It actually made me wish they had made secondary-only swat (not all together, but magnum swat, plasma swat, boltshot swat), but no one would ever vote for that when it came up and it would muddy up the number of options.

That gametype is unplayable on Bumper Jumper and shouldn't be in MM.

Agreed. It is amazing how one game type can be so dependent upon AAs that it becomes close to impossible with one of the control schemes (and I can kind of claw, but I think it is dumb so I don't). They should have done it more like binary slayer.

I know how, hurts my small delicate fingers so I don't.

Imagine Team ARs from H3 but smaller and with all the bullshit that comes with being Halo 4.

I got to play it for a tiny bit because I JIP'd...

It wad fun. It's action sack bro, its not meant to be competitive or bullshit free lol

60 fps for Halo will be sooo good. I played a few games of blops 2 then played Halo 4 on a forge map and it was painful to look at. Halo 5 can not come soon enough because Halo 4 is just not fixable. I am going back to Halo 3 in 2 weeks when it goes free to play hopefully it will be popular again. To have a good start for Halo 5 I suggest a Halo 1,2,3 free classic map pack.

I am finding the OP SAW to be a nice flashback to the olden days of rushing for a Rocket Launcher. With less chance of blowing myself up on an ill considered lip shot.

The thing is.... You can't call down a rocket launcher in Infinity Slayer.

Imagine.. 8 people constantly calling down rockets on Abandon...

Sounds pretty bad, eh?

I could take the new power of the SAW a lot more if Infinity Slayer was removed from existence (or even banished to Action Sack with the other silly gametypes) and it's population was transferred to something akin to Throwdown with radar.

Has anyone successfully swapped AA's with another player at the start of the match? I always get a split-second prompt, but as of yet have to follow through with it.
