Microsoft officially pulls DRM from Xbox One, announces new policies

Why are you shitting on his experience with the Xbox brand? Are you fucking kidding me? None of this shit you spewed have nothing to do with what he was talking about.

"experience with the xbox brand"
why are these words coming out of the mouth of a gamer.

Glad to see Microsoft reversed their policies. I've been an Xbox consumer for several years now, along with many of my friends, so these policy changes will allow us to maintain our Xbox "family" for the near future. I would have loved to have the option to install my game to my HDD, and play the games directly from the HDD without the disc, but I can live without that feature now that Microsoft's overall policies are much more consumer friendly.

I'm not ashamed to admit that the policies were the main reason why I was considering going with a PS4, but now that those policies have been reversed, I am back on board with the Xbox. Sure, I could bombard Microsoft with shame and admonishment like some people here are for even CONSIDERING to implement these draconian policies, but the most important aspect for me is that they DID in fact reverse the policies, and with nearly five months remaining until release. How can people suggest that Microsoft is "too late" in their reversal of their policies, WHEN THE CONSOLE HASN'T EVEN BEEN RELEASED YET, and won't for another five months?

And let's not forget the PC.
Console exclusivity, even a year ahead as an exclusive, IS a big deal because titanfall was made on Xbox One as the lead. Let's not pretend this, also, means nothing in quality, which the argument was based on.

I'm happy this was thwarted as I don't want Microsoft screwing up my hobby any further, with their greedy ideas. I'm still done with them though, and regardless of how they may spin things as now, we know the true Microsoft. I can't support a company like this.

I hope the Xbone goes on to become the next Zune or Windows Phone. A failure.

I am still wondering if this Xbox change in policies affected some of the publisher relations and agreements that MS agreed to. Like I wonder if there was something in the in contract for exclusivity of either the game or DLC is going to be affected now. For instance Titanfall. Some of these game companies got to be like "Well fuck, we could lose money now because we committed to once console and not the other."

This makes me think of the movie Dumb and Dumber when Lyoyd drives the wrong way and Harry gets pissed off and says thats it and leaves Lyoyd.

But then Lyoyd trades the Shagon Wagon for a little motor bike and picks up Harry. Remember what Harry says to Lyoyd something like "just when I thought you couldn't be any dumber you do something this and totally redeem yourself" That is kind of gafs "Xbox fanbase response to Microsoft"

Don't know why i just thought of that because I am an xbox loyalist but somehow I still don't trust Microsoft.

EA said they had nothing to do with the Xbox One policies so I don't see anything changing. In the case of TitanFall, they just got a huge cheque from MS.

I am now VERY excited for Gamescom. I think both Sony and MS still have more to show on the gaming front, Phil Spencer confirmed that they still have first party games to announce that are coming at launch for Xbox One. I would assume Sony still has more to announce as well.

Of which, we only saw the cg trailer.

yeah. It was a cool trailer and I liked the look of it, but with so much of the stuff we saw at the press conferences, we didn't see a game.

As far as I'm concerned, until you show me someone playing a thing with a controller, it may as well be the killzone 2 trailer at e3 2005.

Let's call it Xbox Exclusive, which includes Xbox 360 and Xbox One. :)

Titanfall is also on PC, uh now we call it a Microsoft exclusive right? lol

It's also scheduled for fall 2014 which is like a year after the consoles are released. We shouldn't even be talking about it as a pre-order incentive imo.

I believe it's coming Spring 2014.

The point is Titanfall its not on PS4 or WiiU - whats so hard to understand? Not many people have a highend gaming PC and are console warriors at the same time.

The true MS?
-The company that likes to make money?
-The company that tries to shake things up and move the industry forward with new ideas (kinect) instead of feeding us the same bull shit year after year?
-The company that sees the videogame industry headed towards a cliff and tries to help developers out with drm strategies and actively trying to stop piracy?

I find it funny that in an attempt to help developers (which indirectly helps the consumer) MS is seen as anti-consumer.

Your post is ignorant and short sighted. DRM is coming one way or another. Prepare for your hobby to be "screwed up".

Getting hyped over Cg trailers is a bad idea. I still remember how epic the blur Old Republic videos were.

You literally have no idea what you're talking about. If you don't think Sony is out to make money, and that this "pro-gamer" orientation is just a scheme to do so you are quite misguided. Also if MS were to leave the industry it would be so much worse being that Sony would essentially have a monopoly and could then just say "DRM for everyone!" and you'd have nowhere to turn.

You should probably just leave now. You come off like a fanboy.

I wouldn't put that EyeToy wannabe shit up as something that moved the industry forward and is actually a worthwhile experience over the "tired old" game conventions.

That's a bit harsh don't you think?
Or perhaps I'm just as misguided as he is...because I feel somewhat the same.

Not that I have much love for Sony, if at all to be honest.
Still, the lesser of two evils it is in the end. And MS really has shown that they are willing to step on our necks these past few months, if it would mean they would make a bit more money.

Some part of me actually would like to have seen them stick to their original plan and 3DO their system. Would have been fitting actually and might have thought them a lesson. As I don't feel, even though they seem to be falling on their knees and begging forgiveness right now for their misguided ways, that they actually realise what went wrong with what they wanted to accomplish.

I love my 360 as you might know and actually own 3. 2 PAL ones and a JP one with over 300 games between them. Yet right now, I'm in the same boat and don't want to give them anymore money if I have another option. Which is why I just bought Tomb Raider and D&D collection for my neglected PS3, even though I hadn't bought anything for it in over a year.
If that's a fanboy rant, so be it. But I still buy game systems from companies that I can respect on some level and that I feel have some respect for me as a consumer as well. Even if that ends of being misguided.

You don't sound like you have much of a grip on what really happened. You're ascribing a malicious intent to the switch to digital on consoles; whether the benefits outweighed the cons (I think they do and I'm genuinely annoyed with the reversal to disc-tethered gaming) I regard it as strange to think this was a policy set out to damage rather than to differentiate.

Regardless, anthropomorphising corporate behaviour is never particularly insightful.

I hope the Xbone goes on to become the next Zune or Windows Phone. A failure.
Windows Phone is actually quite successful now and is constantly growing its market share. :)

This.

I like how someone can speak highly of one exclusive and on the other hand dismiss another because it's 'only for a year' or it's available on PC.

So good to see them retreat and change policy, we knew they would. I posted here saying they would never throw away 7 years of xbox live and the whole cod crowd. Microsoft made a massive error, how do these huge companies make such shitty choices, or are they just pushing as far as possible. I guess we pushed back just enough, wasn't and still won't buy one.

Oh my lawd at some of the bile being spewed in this thread. These are all multinational corporations headed by extremely well-compensated executives. They couldn't care less about you or your brand loyalty. Don't forget that.

These features will all be dealt with as per how amazing the M$ lawyers are, M$ will apply mission creep and by mid next gen cycle drm will have crept back in. Do not fall for it.

Many people do have gaming PCs and don't want to fork out another $499 just to play a game on console. The point is it's not an Xbox exclusive.

I think you could say the same for a lot of tech companies. I can see your concern about the back pedaling but if they had literally no regard for their consumer base than I don't think you would be seeing a change in the policy.

They didn't change the policy because they suddenly became concerned for my rights as a consumer. They changed their policies because it was garnering widespread opposition even outside what would normally be enthusiast only crowds (for example: Jimmy Fallon). It almost certainly had an adverse effect on their preorder numbers going by the leaked numbers and the anecdotal evidence that was piling up in threads about the subject. Especially worrying given that those numbers were from markets that Microsoft dominated this generation.

Gamers did not win. Shortsightedness did.

Gamers won. The digital future is inevitable and can easily be encompassed in Sony and Microsoft's upcoming platforms. Sony's strategy was simply the smarter play since sales will shift to digital, as they have been this generation, without any need to force the issue.

If MS would have simply given gamers the CHOICE, to either install the game disc to forfiet your physical rights, but benifit from thier digital structure instead, this entire debacle would be mostly avoided IMO.

What nonsense is this? Their concern is sales.
