GT6 Demo Tuesday 2nd July

I'm happy with the improvements. The sound is still crap but I'm sure I'll get over it.

Hoping the inevitable PS4 version comes sooner rather than later.

I think they have a good basic framework in place for GT7. More powerful hardware will eliminate most of the issues we see here, all they gotta do is concentrate on the sound.

No doubt. They'll easily smoke out the competition next gen if they can pull off the graphics they do with this one. The physics look nuts, but yeah, the sound really needs work.

And we'll finally have Youtube uploading next gen! lol.

Well I've spent half my day playing this demo. I got gold on the 4 practice tests but the full lap is killing me. Best I've managed so far is a bronze at 2:28. :/

i wish the ranking had an option to make a steering wheel/controller distinction.

Yes it should, you can see when clicking on an individual rank but it would be nice to have an icon on the list entries at least.

Have you tried downloading anyone elses ghost? You might get some ideas on how to improve.

I've never played GT, but... holy crap this looks impressive. Also nice suspension work.

Well, that's funny. I came from one hour gameplay of NFS Most Wanted at 60FPS at max settings and supersampled...and I couldn't believe my eyes. I mean, I didn't expect really impressive graphics, but that really made my eyes bleed. The overall detail, aliasing, framerate...it looks so old. This generation needed to end one or two years ago, really.

Is the game easier with a wheel? I find it difficult to drive aggressively with the pad. I seem to spin out too easily.

Once you get used to it, yes. There's a bit of a learning curve, but the enhanced precision of a wheel really obliterates what you can do with a pad. FFB also telegraphs a lot of information to you that helps you correct slides, etc.

Can't wait to try it. Juts out of curiosity is there any damage model implemented in the demo?

Not that I noticed, and I smashed both cars against the railings to... uh... check.

Can't wait to get home.

Playing the demo, and goddamn, this game is amazing.

+ Excellent graphics
+ Very clean IQ
+ Awesome lighting
+ Fantastic driving model. Physics feel much better. I can no longer feel the classic understeer that has plagued GT games
+ Smooth framerate
+ Instant load times

- Flickering/Shimmering
- Cockpit windshield is a little dark
- Lack of AA
- Poor sounds

I'm surprised how much better this game looks compared to GT5. Despite seeing footage for games like PCars and FM5, I am still extremely impressed with GT6. The lighting looks wonderful.

Everyone seems to disagree with you on framerate. Especially the typically tech oriented people I see here.

Also, how does one list..

+ Very clean IQ

...and then list..

- Flickering/Shimmering
- Lack of AA

That makes no sense...??

Anyway, hopefully the hammer out the stuttering and polish it. God knows they've had more than enough time to deliver on this.

Damn it is it really going to be that long till I can try this in the US? Those suspension gifs, and the driving physics impressions have me salivating. I'm dying to fire up my G27 and play this thing!

Had a go with a controller, squeezed the gold from the first trial. Insanely promising. Looks lovely aside from the aliasing, don't mind the dithering personally. Snappy menus. Need to get the wheel set up ASAP.

edit: HYPED

Yeah, I tried it with the pad a few mins ago and there is still this large abyss between the edge of grip and the point of no return. Very forgiving. And after watching ROSSI's lap it seems like the fastest way around the track is still sliding the car through the corner, though it's a bit toned down compared to GT5. I'll have a go with the wheel later tonight.

"Still"? The fastest laps were never like that.

Taking the new physics for granted, the one thing that I absolutely love are the improved loading times. That is a big plus for me. When the full game comes out, I can take different cars on a Nordschleife session more efficiently.

It would be great if you can change cars AFTER you load a track.

370Z tends to spin out if you push it too hard during corners, other than that it's a pretty straightforward car to master. I imagine it would be difficult with the pad. I'm surprised my wheel still works after all that abuse it received during GT5, but man, all those memories came back instantly.

Yup, I'm really excited about that feature.

"hello?" "this is vagina"
When I checked this thread earlier I saw lots of talk of framerate problems and stuttering. What's the word on that?

I've pretty much spent all evening playing this demo now - I've always considered myself more of an arcade racer, but I think GT6 has brought me into the "simulation" fold. It's really quite fun, and seems very competent in all its facets.

I hope an eventual PS4 version will allow any PS3 progress to transfer over?

Don't then, just go check the replays on the top times of the leaderboards of every week, or the previous GT A. You wouldn't have a rebuttal afterwards anyway.

The driving style required to get a top time in every GT Time Trial ever since the first GTA has always been the same. It's still faster to drift the car into the corner, settle it and light up the rears on the exit without being punished for it. This is not the fastest way around the track in real life. It's a point that comes up among the top drivers every GTA.

Game looks great, for a ps3.

As with TLOU, what the devs managed to squeeze out of the hardware is a great achievement.

But we need next-gen hardware. Badly.

Yes, it is like that since always.

It is one of the fields where I prefer Forza 4 tyre-model (in Simulation mode) because drifting (lateral torsion on tyres) actually slows the car down and leads to grip-snap and inevitable spin if maintained without slowing down and correction of axle.
