Especially considering they put FF6-style Magitek Armor in the game, they could've made Slave Crown Terra an optional boss.

How is that 'proof' of anything? FFXIV is a nostalgia factory on purpose. As stupid as it is, including Lightning makes sense. It's just a shame they won't reference any other FF games when there's plenty of room for crossovers with better titles.
XV is supposed to be a game looking forward, not back. I don't see why they'd include her when she'd add nothing to the experience except vitriol.

This is really mostly because the Lightning Returns team made a Mi'qote catgirl outfit for Lightning as one of her many, many costumes options. They talked about this at E3, and apparently the LR team wanted to give back to ARR.
I wouldn't expect to see Lightning herself (I suspect that screenshot is being misunderstood, though if it isn't, what the christ), just the outfit as a bit of fanservice.

Really? Aside from the FFVI Magitek Armor and the FFVII limit breaks, what cameos are in XIV so far?
If that's the most they do, I'm fine with it. Who cares about a poster in a city?

I quite enjoy the basis mythology of FNC, but I think XIII handled it poorly, and XIII-2 made it even worse. I hope that XV makes it more accesible, and don't start adding unneccesary complexity to an already complex mythology.

Biggs and Wedge, the Tiny Bronco, Final Fantasy II battle music for one particular fight, one of the endgame dungeons is going to be very similar to Final Fantasy III's Crystal Tower... the game's full of cameos and fanservice. (Surprisingly, most of them are very well-handled, though, and it rarely feels truly excessive.)
No actually, from what I understand, she will be in XIV herself. In person. It might be a faulty translation, but that is my understanding.

I don't know if I'd call Biggs and Wedge a cameo unless it's the actual Biggs and Wedge from a specific FF game. That's like saying Cid is a cameo.
I didn't know the Tiny Bronco was in the game though. That's a cute reference. I would definitely like to see some more bits like that. Maybe if they ever add a Samurai or Swordmaster class to the game, they can give it General Leo's Shock attack as a special move.
I also really hope the FFVI Magitek Armor is actually usable in combat - the patch screen for the PS3 beta shows a bunch of Magitek suits firing Tek Beams, so I'm hoping that'll be something players can do and they won't just be glorified WoW mounts.
Eeeeh, those two are kind of a series "staple" already rather than a reference, as they've been in multiple games and even retconned into older games.

Actually, since Lightning is a straight-up trans-dimensional entity-personage-thingy at this point, I guess I could see it; she's more like Cloud of Darkness or Emperor Mateus in that she's sort of outside of just her little corner of the universe at this point (given that she chills in the Void Beyond now, and that definitely connects all over the place) and Yoshi-P's been hinting for a while now that we will see CoD in the game, straight up.
That does feel like a bridge a hair too far, though, even if it will be awesome to see catboys in goofy Snow outfits and the like.
It's at the very end of the current beta main quest content, you get sent to help out two Imperial defectors (B&W) who are piloting an airship called the Tiny Bronco.

That's more like it. Gilgamesh and Chupon are great. Maybe they'll bring in Kefka later on like I was talking about before.
I really do think it's a missed opportunity to not bring in characters like Kefka or Sephiroth into a game like this. They'd make really awesome optional bosses, especially if they have special dungeons built around them.
WoW has the Caverns of Time for stuff like this. FFXIV should use the Cleft of Dimension to let them pull in cameo dungeons and battles.

If it's true, they'll almost certainly be in the Crystal Tower.

But yeah, I genuinely wouldn't mind Lightning if it was made justified as to how she ends up in Eorzea. Characters like Gilgamesh and CoD (hell, put Exdeath in there too) have the whole "existing in the void across worlds" thing going on, which isn't a stretch for Lightning and her quasi-divinity, but it just seems like they're going for a dumb advertisement rather than truly integrating it.
Eh, you could still have LR Lightning show up and give away the XIII outfits as a reward. Lightning is Lightning, even if she's wearing a worse outfit.

I want to say it's innocent fan-service... But I really feel like they are whoring her. OK, we get it, Nomura looooooves Lightning (and probably the rest of the team too, otherwise this wouldn't happen in the first place), but this is getting ridiculous.
Sadly, that's not the last time we will see her make cameos in Square-Enix games. You can bet she will once again make an apparition in Kingdom Hearts 3.

Yeah, we've known about the concept art for a long time, but that won't necessarily translate into game implementation. Plenty of stuff dies at the conceptual stage - hell, Titan was in 1.0 for ages but was never used, mostly due to the Tohoku earthquake.
I'll be a lot more inclined to believe Typhon and Gil and whatnot will be in-game when they have models.

Nomura isn't shoving Lightning down anyone's throats. As a matter of fact I think he understands that XIII is a mediocre game and has constantly distanced his game that he's directing (FFXV) away from FFXIII.

Lighting's outfit fits with most of the stuff in the game outside of it's little weird shoulder piece honestly, the weapons are fine too
