Someone donate to the Dahbomb cause. My pledges if I make $1000.

*I will attend EVO.

*Will put whatever tag in front of my name.

*Will wear a DINO shirt in public while attending EVO.

*I will have my GAF name changed to Officer Dahbomb.

*I will never talk about Marvel patch again.

Come on guys.... I just had surgery! It's for a good cause!

We must fund this trip everyone!

People, groups, and companies invite this kind of scrutiny when they give half-assed information. They are practically telling people, "fill in the blanks with whatever you want!" It is poor reputation management.

Bottom line is people are free to do whatever they want with their money.

FA has some new accessories! Get em while they're hot! Mirror balltops and stuff.

Dieminion's drive is at $950. I think he can go to Evo now.

EDIT: I can highly recommend the Tor Browser if your ISP is throttling Twitch. :D

Has EventHubs ever posted a story about a donation drive that was for a players travel costs?

I have no problem with Dieminion asking for money but EH posting a story about it on their front page as news is tacky to me.

I'm trying to think of the last time a player asked for donations to travel within the lower 48 and am coming up empty.

Might start happening more now though lol

i really hope this trend stops now. i want players to be accountable for their mistakes, and this kind of behavior encourages them to do it more. :/

It might not. In the speedrunner community, people straight up ask and run donation drives to cover their expenses without offering up any story at all. It's a little odd and I don't really donate to any of those, but it's effective.

Why do they do it then? If there's nothing in it for them, why shill someone else's stuff?

Some people just feel naked without a few letters in front of their name.

I do believe that a lot of current FGC sponsorships do pay for tournament entry fees, if not necessarily for transportation and lodging for tournaments.

Sometimes they get merchandise. Other times, it's just the opportunity to be a part of something bigger and more exclusive. And other times, they get venue/tournament fees paid for (even if they don't actually get any money handed to them).

It's all this behind-closed-door money stuff needs to end, to be honest.

The speedrunning example is a good example too.a

People still do it anyway.

It annoys me when people who should be in situations where they should be taken care of and have sponsorship and have won tournaments are soliciting the community for donations. And as long as people keep donating, they'll continue.

I can't be upset over what people want to do with their money, it's just not something I'm going to personally support.

But you'd agree that it would not be cool to call that out before we even know, right?

That's all I've been trying to get at.
Some player asks for money, it' reasonable to ask why in advance especially in such a short frame of time. It's not being negative its called being cautious and aware as to what purpose your money is being used for.

And 1500 is enough to get two tickets to EVO. Fucking hell I can get to Pakistan and back for that amount of money. I will not donate a dime for this, I will not encourage this.

Yes! People make all these mistakes over and over and never learn from it, instead being rewarded, needs to stop, people need to mature and be responsible for their actions and learn from their mistakes. Grow up!

You pretty much summed up my feelings. It's a shame that someone who is sponsored by the biggest pockets has to eventually ask for donations while hundreds of hard working people are paying for their own expenses to EVO. A lot of these people save up every year just for the occasion. But people are willing to donate so whatever.

We can only base our decision on what we see. We know almost no facts about the situation.

All we do know is that a good player that many people respect asked for help.

Should be his tag for EVO. The first World Warrior. :O
You miss a lot of what I say, then, because I preach custom assists all the time! Though the options in Skullgirls feel a bit underwhelming at the moment. Painwheel definitely needs some new assist options. The clear and obvious answer is to allow charged inputs. Qcf.hp charged and her armored normals would open up a world of possibilities. It's so obvious that I don't understand why it isn't being implemented.

I want Brain Drain with a tracking laser shot (think Daggers of Denak).
I can't say I'm pining all that much for amazing assists from the DLC characters. I think I'm spoiled at this point. Outside of Painwheel everyone else has god tier assists so I go all crazy for point performance. That is why I was so hyped about characters like Beowulf, Beatrix, Annie, Feng and Panzerfaust.

Mike should just allow button charged moves, though. The Painwheel players would have something to play with. I'd also like to see Painwheel's f.H command normal usable to it's fullest extent. That move would have some stupid good long blockstun.

A good "sponsored" player who has been to numerous other tournaments in the past is asking for money to attend the biggest tourney of the year 6 days before the event. Questions need to be answered here.

It's negative when the reason for your negativity is a bunch of unsubstantiated bullshit, but if tmz gaf wants to rock, fine, I'm done saying my piece. He said he's gonna tell the story. People who donated obviously don't care either way.

also, plane tickets get damn expensive the closer you buy them to the travel date.

NYC La Guardia to Las Vegas, flying in on the 12th, flying back on the 15th is a $1000 minimum it looks like. on american airlines' site.

I think the issue is that it hurts players in the long run if sponsors think they can get away with not being accountable with their money. Situations like this set a precedent in which sponsors don't need to be accountable with their money since there is little backlash from the community and their player can ask for donations to get them to places. It may give the perception to potential sponsors outside the community that they don't need to uphold the terms of their contract since their players can just ask the community for money.

Mike Ross must be pretty happy that he didn't accept a contract from EMP right now

There's your probable explanation.

It's fortunate for east coast and west coast players are able to ask for and actually receive donations from randoms to make up for lack of planning. Nobody in the midwest is famous enough to do that, and so we unfortunately are forced to book well in advance.

That say, I would start a donation drive to get Brightside to Evo, but the USA's best Spider-Man player has a work shift on Saturday.

Did the taito station team tournament start? I went back a few pages but all I see is people talking about Marvel practice matches.

US Airways has it for half that.

ha, I'd probably make an exception and donate to that.

Definitely won't donate to the raw "can i have money" ones.

Like said already, telling the story after you get the $1500 is pointless.

The funny thing is that if he comes straight on all this he might reach that goal faster.

I just looked at the price for a flight ticket for Thursday 11th to the 15th.

It's $595 for US Airways. Like I said before, he can get two tickets for that price with spare change left.

An explanation is demanded.
