The first two groupees greenlight bundles if you are interested. Depressingly, looking back over them I saw how unsuccessful they are. Out of the first 2 I think only La Mulana is up on steam. I hope they and this 3rd one at least helps the developers raise some capital and awareness even if they don't make it onto steam.;

And if we are honest, it probably wasnt due to BaGB that La Mulana got greenlit. I got the impression that Valve is a bit draconian with the number requirements for Greenlight anyway.

Worth noting that Rooks Keep is one of those games. I know that's been mentioned a few times on this thread, looking forward to giving it a go.

Cool, I've been interested in Residue for some time now.

When we had the game in indiegogo we made some dev friends, and one of them called Killmonday, just put a demo to their game on their indiegogo project page.
It's a really creepy point and click adventure game with an awesome artstyle about a girl in an asylum that
can watch dead people after eating some pills.
Just played the demo and beat it and its pretty cool, and I like a lot the girl character in it and how she interacts with the other characters.
There are links to the pc, mac and linux versions of the demo here:
http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/fran-bow-a-very-creepy-point-click-adventure-game

I think I remember it from the Adventure thread. Gonna give it a try later, thanks.

So good.

We need a thread for this to spread the word.

I'm pretty much sure it would get like 10 responses;D

Big thanks to Toma's extreme generosity again!

I am unsure how to explain Tiny and Big other than great. It is really well done, both graphically and mechanically, and controls great with a 360 pad. Features an option to invert Y axis which is great for those of us who prefer it. I love the Gameboy themed tutorial.

The absolute best thing with the game is how deceptively big it is. You can beat the first stage in a few short minutes if you follow the narrative. More adventurous gamers will find there is much more off the beaten path to discover. You are rewarded for exploring and experimenting with your powers and I love that. I was constantly smiling and each time I discovered a hidden room or collectable rock or audio tape that smile was usually followed with a laugh of satisfaction. The achievements in the game work well as a chronicle of your adventure. You seem to get one for each hidden area or obtuse event you complete.

Even if there wasn't a treasure trove of hidden areas to explore I would still lose myself in the game. Just playing around with the powers you are given can be fun. Slicing through rocks, attaching rockets to loose pieces...simple gameplay aspects that are just fun. That about sums up my thoughts here: Fun. My only complaint is that you can wander into the "right" area for the story and be blocked off from exploring where you just came from. But the game is enjoyable enough so far that any excuse to replay it is fine with me.

I'd say all of the gifts I gave out in this thread so far went to the right people ;)

After reading it I need to play Tiny and Big, I already own it and it's even installed on my computer but never bothered to launch the game (shame on me), but first I need to buy a new mouse, so probably Wednesday or Thursday i'm going to post my impressions.

I started playing this yesterday, had a complete blast and essentially agree with everything you say :). A gem of a game. I'm most of the way through it now and intend to re-start to explore moar and try it out with kbm too. I highly recommend this game; especially since it can be had so cheap currently. There's a demo on Steam too for those who like to try before they buy.

Do EET!!!

It won't take too long to complete on your first playthrough but is so fun, charming, and amusing that it begs to be re-played at least once.

Well, I'm going out in a bit, but if you want you can always create an OP and I'll just post a thread with it later.

Same offer from me if Hofmann isnt here. Create the OP, contact me via PM and I'll throw up the thread.

So I was asking around about The Swapper specs.

One response on GameFaqs said I wouldn't be able to play because the game doesn't support Intel integrated graphics. Is that true? Not even on low settings?

And is there a demo online anywhere? Would love to at least try and see how performance is

Pretty likely that wont run, yeah. Unfortunately no demo available as far as I know. Stupid decision in my opinion though as there IS a show/expo demo and they just didnt make it available for the public. Every Indie game should have a demo.

Damn, was really anticipating that game. At least I still got Vessel to finish.

Any other quality puzzle platformers like Swapper, Vessel, etc.? I know of Gateways, Limbo, and Closure

Puzzle Platformer? Hmm. Braid immediately comes to mind. Blocks that matter was good and geniunely challenging in its puzzle design as well.

And since we were talking about puzzle games, I feel obligated to namedrop SpaceChem again, because... SpaceChem, aka the best puzzle game ever made.

Some of these are a little more traditional in their puzzle-platform-iness

If you liked Gateways you might like Adventures of Shuggy. It's made by the same guy, fairly similar game but level based rather then open world. Good co-op too.

Just found a game on Kickstarter from the comic Looking for Group.
Looks like a fun concept. Strangely enough it isn't very much nearing it's goal.

I would expect a enthusiastic backing for such a game.

I dunno. If you have little interest in the LFG licences then it just appears to be a rather generic hack an slasher. I wish them luck though, the developers made this pinball game on the iOS which I was rather fond of.

They better be called moon croissants. If that's what you're going for, and you can collect them, I think it's fine. I didn't know you collect those or then I would be suggesting there to be ship explosions but that would have brought too much screen clutter making the collection harder.

For the beam laser, I think just bringing it a bit closer to the ship would be better, since you already have the start up expanding circle before the laser comes out. I quite like the Dragon Ball effects, especially with those speed lines in the beam itself. Keep at it!

I actually do think the death animation needs some work done and in the future I will try to tweak it while trying to avoid adding much clutter, I also need to think what kind of sound I want for it that fits the music.

About the name.. I was thinking about something + "shards" but actually Moon Croissants doesn´t sound bad at all :D might go for it in the end.

Thanks a lot for the feedback! We really appreciate it.

Yeah, it looks great, especially the animations

and by backing you get 9 additional games, like this one for example:

Yep, looks like I'll be visiting the Notgames Fest 2013. Contacted the organization committee for more information on opening hours and prices, so we'll see what they'll say, but if it isnt outrageously expensive, I'll probably go there.

Great to hear. Some great games were shown there two years ago, like Amnesia, Kairo and Dear Esther for example, so I'm sure this time selection will be as good, if not better.

Better late than never.

Postmortem – This adventure game has a very interesting concept. You play as a Death in a country torn by a terrible domestic conflict and your goal is to end one person's life out of a group of important figures attending charity gala; choosing one that will have the less negative consequences for the whole nation, by learnig about their personal lives, history, etc.

Frozen Endzone – Tactical future sports game inspired by a cult classic Frozen Synapse.

One Way Trip – Hey you filthy villains, I'm gonna whip your ugly asses in only one turn with my JRPG charm.

Dawn of Ronin – It hasn't been shown here for a long time, so instead of a newest screen, take a look at the older gif, which may explain what this lovely lookin' game is about.

RymdResa – Wandering aimlessly through vastness of space in a procedurally generated multiplayer exploration game, sending out transmission signals into the great silence hoping that someone will receive them.

Proven Lands – First in-game shot from a survival sci-fi RPG.

Lifeless Planet - I don't know if I'm blind or what, but I don't remember this game being mentioned here before - last month the dev released new trailer, so it's a good opportunity to correct this overlook.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fp5YbLbdz9U

While seeking life on a distant planet, a skeptical astronaut discovers an abandoned Russian laboratory. He suspects his mission is a hoax until a mysterious young woman saves him from a strange and deadly phenomenon...

My goal with Lifeless Planet is to build a game that puts the adventure back into "action-adventure." I grew up loving games like Out of this World, The Dig, and ICO, and I want to create a gaming experience in the spirit of these true action-adventure games.

This is the reason I love this thread, lot of awesome games that I couldn't even heard about if it wasn't here. One more game to keep the eyes, the story sounds intriguing and with his influences one can just imagine what kind of plot he is writing.

My entry for Glob contest.

Little game and fun. The mechanics are nice but probably were developed with the XBox 360 in mind since the colors matches the face buttons. When you play with a keyboard, once you memorize the pattern you need to press, it becomes easy :p

A Dark Room is nifty. Dont read the spoiler if you still want to try yourself: I did not expect
the game to go all roguelike on me. Awesome touch that fits perfectly.
.

Frontiers a First Person RPG with focus in exploration.

I can still remember the first time I played Daggerfall. Yes, it was uglier than a monkey's armpit and controlled worse than a bumper car on a frozen lake.

But it also created the feeling of a world that lived on even after I'd stopped playing, and that feeling still sticks with me all these years later. A world where you could spend hours searching every pixelated nook and cranny. A world of potential. A world of EXPLORATION...

...and then a Dragonling would chomp my face because I hadn't spent ten hours grinding in the easy regions. Arg! So frustrating!

Other games have touched on that elusive feeling, especially Elder Scrolls and early Fallout games, but as fun as they are and as much as I love hardcore RPG mechanics, I've always dreamt of a game that emphasized exploration above all else.

Going through some games.

Alltynex and Binary Maze were decent, but nothing super amazing. Cute though if you are in need of exactly the kind of gameplay that I described in the OP.

CardHunter Beta (F2P) is pretty rad. I think it was CzarTim who recommended it. Just tried it and the screenshots dont do it justice at all. The combat system works very well and the loot system is pretty clever and engaging. Instead of you needing to meticulously finetune the whole card catalog, you only equip your items, which correspond with certain cards that you can now use in your deck. This dramatically cuts down the time needed for deck creation while still allowing for quite a bit of customization with several equipment slots and probably more than enough weapons.
The F2P seems rather unintrusive in the SP, since it only gives you MORE loot and doesnt lock content.

The actual combat system is also quite interesting since I am not used to juggling card options on a strategic boardgame. Best game for me this month.

Bonus edit: The art style looks very cool ingame.

Toma

Man, this game is really, really good. I also wish I could just buy it for 15 bucks or whatever, but its probably one of the best (monetarized) F2P games I've played so far.

You mean outside of Kickstarter, right?

I cant use the Kickstarter Paypal option if I have a non-US Paypal account, so yeah, "outside" of Kickstarter but these projects usually advertise them in the kickstarter as soon as they hit their funding goal.

Anyone here who funded it and could ask that in the comments?

Edit: Random aside, 3 hours later and I am still playing Card Hunter. Gotta stop doing that now, geez.

DeCalc is a cool little mathematics puzzle game. The beginning seems a bit too straight forward, but once the game includes fields that have multiple uses, it gets really intricate:

You need to create mathematical formulas with the numbers and mathematical signs they provide.
In this example you start at the top and then a small circle, going back to the top (which means that the top most number is used twice, like "2+5+62+" and the goes to the right in a circle using the field in the lower middle again.

The game has surprisingly much content too with endless, arcade and casual modes. The only downside is that you need to REALLY like mathematics since its not just a puzzle game disguising itself with science (like SpaceChem for Chemistry).

Actually, this would be a cool tool to toy around with for pupils in school/math classes too.

Defenders Quest is a great Tower defense game with quite a bit of depth and RPG mechanics. It does apparently allow you to grind it out though so getting stuck shouldnt be much of an issue. It IS a fun game and I will probably keep playing it, but its quite amazing how different TD games (compared to Sentinel last month) can turn out to be. Both great TD games and both aim at something entirely different with their core gameplay concept.

Toma

Let me show you through these halls, my friend, where treasures of indie gaming await...
Evilot is a decent Plants vs Zombies style clone (even the music reminds me of it) that adds a few more twists to the PvZ formula (like summoning 3 creatures of the same kind will merge them into a next level creature) that could potentially add a bit more depth to the combat since its one more choice to ponder. Compared with the other recent TD games (Sentinel and Defenders Quest), this one is definitely the worst of the bunch, even though its not even all that terribly bad in itself. I guess it just ripping off too much off PvZ rubs me a bit the wrong way and that the game seems to make a rather ... bland (?) impression overall, although I got to admit that the asking price of 2$ is pretty laughable, especially considering the other 2 mentioned TD games are 10 and 15$ respectively.

So far I'd say:

Sentinel - If you want a skill/reflex based puzzle TD with an awesome soundtrack integrated into the game as visual eye candy.
Defenders Quest - If you want RPG mechanics in your TD games with good level replayability for loot and the option to grind out your levels to overcome a challenge
Evilot - If PvZ style TD was the best kind of TD for you and striked the perfect balance between simplicity and complexity. And if you have a light wallet and dont mind a rehash of those mechanics.

I would probably consider both S and D must plays in the genre though, if anyone cares about my opinion on that matter.
