Alright guys, I want predictions:

1. Highest concurrent numbers during the International 3
2. Dark horse of the tournament
3. Finalists of the International 3
4. Winners of the tournament
5. How many Death Prophet picks are we going to see?

dave is ok

aztek is ok
So this game is growing pretty fast. It only hit 4 million unique about a week ago and it's already up to 4.5 million +

Also, less than 2k until Immortal item! pleasedon'tbeinvokershoulders

So I finally took the plunge and gave this a proper go. The tutorials are fantastic and really helped learn the basic mechanics.

Currently playing against humans in limited pick matches and getting better with Sniper. I'm still using other people's builds at the moment, but it seems to be working - went 9-1-9 with him last match haha.

I don't know.

And on that note, which heroes are considered "bottom-tier" and will never get picked during the International?

I want to smash my keyboard in half. Why is it during late night Dota that the worse dregs of the Trench decide to come out and troll, bitch, and complain while playing like shit or not talking at all? I'm about to seriously get an OP hero and play them every day until I'm out of the Trench. This shit is the final straw. Best hero to pick? PL?
You have become that which you despise.

At the alienwarecup this was the list of heroes who were neither picked nor banned once in the tourney. Pretty much anything you see in pubs is for people who like to press R/rightclick for win. Heroes with imbalanced skills which require teamwork and communication like wisp and batrider are just too good to pass up.

Then again with Quantic, Alliance, or pocket strats anything is possible

I'm bummed that Disruptor is in that list. I understand though. Doesn't have the tri-lane presence of so many other heroes like a jakiro or visage. His team fight isn't the best either, but his utility with good fields and glimpses is great. Also he's hype/fun.

Quite telling that the top 3 most popular pub heroes (Barathrum, Sniper, Pudge) are in that list.

I think that's good. A game where the weakest heroes can also be popular is a good game.

Just had my first match as Timbersaw. Great match and what a fun hero!

Definitely been my new favourite hero to play. Once you get the R, W, Q in mid air combo down you just can't stop having fun with him. Sucks when they have a good Silencer on the team though, or BKBs up the wazoo.

I feel like at least some of his skills should go through BKB to make him a more viable pickup, because he becomes kind of useless lategame against BKB lineups. His burst damage is so ridiculous though and because people rarely play the hero I feel like noone ever expects it.

Had a decently farmed invoker come and try to solo kill me and despite him throwing down his spells I managed to burst him down so quickly he didn't even have time to react. Fantastic hero.

Great news;

German TakeTV (makers of HomeStory Cup in SC2) will be taking up Dota 2.

Here's hope for a HomeStory Dota Cup! Can't wait to have Puppey or Dendi comment on a LGD game!

I find it kind of interesting that Dota 2 seems to be much more popular in the Starcraft scene than LoL is. Team Liquid made a Dota team and ignored LoL. Now Take, directly says that Dota 2 is more interesting and they are gonna pick that one up, even though they know that LoL has more players / viewers.

I wonder how many LoL tournaments there are without Riot's direct help.

I wish some of the successes Dota has had would be applied to Counter-Strike,

If you ain't getting the Riot dollar dollar bills it's pretty clear which is the superior game when deciding what to support

i think its because sc2 community had massive tall poppy syndrome re: leeg for a huge while and left them a real sour feeling 4eva

hence why sc2 related things going for doto now

I would have said it is because I
it's closer to it's rts roots, controlling more than just one thing if you want.

also leeg is 2 simple, for babbes etc.

oh man tall poppies? thats how you know you used to be under the british empire

Also yeah don't they have a really crazy season thing that takes up tons of time? That seems to be all that's ever on twitch.

no, they are going for dota cause the balance in dota reflects more broodwar (the clearly superior game) then sc2

it's also more fun and less stressful.

I've seen Disruptor get picked a bunch of times

also predicting Dendi Pudge at least in the group stages

HOOOOLY FUCK.

Such an extreme high to such an extreme low in terms of my happiness with this game. Had a major string of games where I won about 90% of games played for a couple days...which has now transitioned into a major string of games where I lose 90% of games played.

So infuriating.

Spirit Breaker thrives off lack of teamwork. He is countered by wards and TP scrolls. Thus he's not too great in the competitive scene.

Yeah problem is in pugs almost no one buys wards and TP scrolls in my bracket lol (more os less 20 wins). A lot of players choose him and even I have trouble dealing with him. If he hits me with the damn stun Im screwed. I play Lina and try to stun him when he is charging at me but I need more practice to hit him right.

It's not that suprising, the competitive side of LoL and the players doesn't have a lot in common with the other previously popular competitive games, where as Dota has a lot in common with cs/quake/sc.
You can find a lot of similar charasteristics between 2GD/Nazgul(TL)/Take, they do shit cause they like their job/life.

FINALLY! So excited about that !

Bruno refuses to shut up about how Space Cow would be awesome as a Support role, and until a team tries it and fails miserably I'm going to keep agreeing with him.

ixmike was running him as a 4 in IDXL awhile back.

I could see him as a surprise pick, but not much more than that.

Demonstrably wrong by Team Liquid and Kiapai, who both run Spirit Breaker as a support. He's a fantastic roamer who needs minimal items and has several BKB piercing spells. He's tanky and quick.

It is strange you would say that wards and tp scrolls counter him but somehow do not counter any other roaming ganker like Chen, Shadow Demon, etc. Anteo said the same thing about Bloodseeker and it's a completely laughable non answer. No, SB isn't picked up often because wards and tp scrolls "counter" him, it's mostly because he isn't trending and somewhat because teams value AOE or pusher supports more right now, of which SB does not excel at either. The teams that do use him put him in the same role as Shadow Demon; a single target lockdown machine. Except SB is even better at focusing a target but is worse at saving teammates.

I'm completely new to the game, and having over 100 characters to choose from seems a bit overwhelming. I assume it's like fighting games where there's no "best" character, and you just pick some that look cool and stick with them. Anyway, does anyone know some console commands to help me get a sense of the different characters? I'd like to see what their abilities are and experiment with the items (of which I also know nothing about) without playing a whole match every time. The old cheat commands don't seem to work anymore.

Spirit Breaker as a support could work, sure. I wasn't trying to discount the hero entirely, but those two things do counter Spirit Breaker pretty well. Both Chen and Shadow Demon don't need too many items, and can buy sentries and counter ward with ease. Spirit Breaker needs items to scale well, can't counter ward (cliffs), etc. He could work as a support, but there are countless other supports that do the same job 10x better.

Do what job? All supports aren't the same.
SB has the best aura in the game, and he has insane lockdown and mobility. The only one hero that I think is strictly better at doing what he does as support is wisp.
His main problem as a support is that he's melee.

Oh mein got. I just realized that you can cast Smoke while you're Charging. This changes everything for me.
