Developer: Valve
Platform: PC
Genre: MOBA (Dota?) [same genre as League of Legends or Heroes of Newerth]
Join: The "Neogaf" channel in-game to play with other Gaffers, the mumble server to talk to some of Dota GAF.
Warning: If you are new to this game, be careful – you WILL suck. This is not Team Fortress 2. The barrier to competence is long and frustrating. There’s a lot of information to absorb, a significant amount of it unintuitive. But we're here to help!
Updates: Updates to the game occur every Wednesday at approx. 5pm PST, patched to the Test Server. This is then patched over to the actual game on Thursday.

The following list is only an approximation of what role each hero fulfills. Every hero can be played in a wide variety of ways. The meta is always evolving and innovation is the greatest strength you can have.
If you are new and interested in learning how to play a hero, use the guide resource hub up above to look up what skills to level, what items to purchase, and what role to play.

I don't like winners bracket advantage for Moba games. It's fine for fighting games where things happen so fast, but for these long, drawn-out games, I want them fighting to the goddamn end.

its the fact that losers champion gets two shots at championship finals while winners champion gets only one

you either have to do:
-two sets if losers win
-or winners advantage (start 1-0)

To make that fair

This double elimination and then suddenly single elimination when you get to grand finals makes no sense. If it's a time issue then why don't they just do single elim.

Eh, but you could say that the winner's bracket team has the innate advantage since they didn't lose. By default the loser's bracket winner is the "underdog" since they already lost a match. Giving a game advantage just compounds that. Not to mention having to play at least one extra set, which could be tiring in addition to being an extra instance where they reveal strategy.

It's going to be more interesting to the audience for an evenly matched grand finals, even if it's slightly less "fair" to the winner's bracket team. Especially if the games are closely balanced, it's a shame for someone to win a match sheerly due tournament structure.

In on first page, dotaaaaa!

Also, play those 10 tutorial games if you want to test limits of your patience

If you play them, does it at least stop defaulting to the "Training" option when you select "Play" from the top menu? May be worth it...if so...

Just no. Turning it into single elimination hurts the winners bracket. It's no advantage.

I maintain you need to have 2 complete sets. Don't make it a bo5, make it one bo3 and if the winners lose, you play another bo3, then at most you have 6 games which isn't too crazy compared to the longest bo5.
