Nintendo Direct WiiU/3DS @ 8/7 - NA: 7am PT, EU: 4pm CEST

At the first Nintendo direct they stole the Thunder by announcing Monster Hunter 3G for 3DS, let alone MH4. After that everyone expects something close for every single direct :(
That technically wasn't a Nintendo Direct, it was a 3DS conference. I would be amazed if Iwata would do a live conference in a theatre hall for every Direct.

Hype for a game direct that isnt gonna sell and move any units?

I'm pretty sure he said friday is a W101 direct o_O

Oh, the game is not going to sell? So I shouldn't be excited even though the game is going to be great?

Shame on you and on your short sighted view.

Was this the most thrilling part of the Direct for you? Did everyone not already know that Luigi would return?

Nope, it was Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney, that you conveniently left out. Luigi was just something that wasn't even supposed to be there, but it was, so it's nice you know, even if it's just confirmation and a few screenshots. Better than not having that, I swear you guys have unreasonably high expectations.

Direct covers exactly what it said it will, people still complain. Why do people expect brand new game announcements for every single Nintendo Direct?

Because they REALLY need to do something more than re-presenting the same, tired info that got no one excited the first time around. Fans want to be shocked and amazed by new announcements, it's what we like. ND is the perfect place to do that.

Nintendo alone have this amazing (and, at this point, completely undeserved) ND hype train fan base waiting for any crumbs that might surprise us... and they squander that hype every time. It's obvious we're all waiting on something to bring us back into the fold, to make us rush out to throw money at Nintendo, yet they continue to disappoint rather than just hold off on these until they can throw something previously unannounced out there. It's just not worth it at this point...

I'm out, no more of these. I'll just wait until I see GAF servers down, then I'll know it was real news.

I'm glad you're excited. But W101 isn't everyone's cup of tea. In fact, I don't think it's even on most gamers' radar. I hear next to nothing outside GAF... the genre as a whole isn't really that popular, I can't imagine W101 is going to be the new Wii Sports or NSMBW

Get Inside Her!
Nintendo announces a Nintendo Direct to talk explicitly about games they've already announced, is clear about it in their announcement.

GAF goes into a foaming rage while watching the Direct, SHOCKED that Nintendo didn't somehow "save the Wii U" by announcing 400 new things to release in the next hour, despite the aforementioned clearly defined scope.

I really have to wonder about some of you people.

Because they REALLY need to do something more than re-presenting the same, tired info that got no one excited the first time around. Fans want to be shocked and amazed by new announcements, it's what we like. ND is the perfect place to do that.

This is not what NDs are for. You are 100% to blame for your mismanaged expectations. Nintendo does not talk about games beyond the quarter they are releasing in, unless it's a tentpole announcement Direct around E3 or something like that. This is a maintenance Direct, there is no obligation to meet the ridiculous hype applied by crazy people with no sense of reality.

I've accepted we simply aren't getting Dragon Quest X. Dragon Quest XI for the 3DS is more likely. That is unless Square Enix goes completely stupid and decides to make it into a smartphone game. With them you never know but last I checked Dragon Quest isn't handled by those making decisions about everything else at Square Enix. So it should be safe.
Mirroring what Kyon said previously, I think we have a much better chance now that it has been announced for PC. Still, you never know.

I'd like to agree with you on XI for the 3DS, but SE still hasn't announced a localization for DQVII remake, and I feel like that's one they'll skip.

I think a F2P format might be good for the current WiiU install base. Maybe do a bundle too idk
I'd take it sub or no. I just want it.

I really don't get why people are up in arms.
They explicitly stated what this direct was going to be and also, most importantly, they likely have at least another 3 or 4 up their sleeves before some of the bigger games hit. Hell, they've already announced a W101 direct and there'll probably be one for Pokemon and others too.

I'm assuming the people not aroused by the PL vs AA confirmation have never played either game tbh

Didn't we know about most of these already?

We knew about everything except the Animal Crossing app and Phoenix Wright vs. Ace Attorney localization announcement. Where were the updates on already announced games I was promised?

Could they not have at least slapped together some 3D World screenshots?

Nope, it was Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney, that you conveniently left out. I didn't conveniently leave it out, I was only highlighting the fact that you pointed it out as one of the announcements, as if it were one of the reasons people should have appreciated the Direct more. It was a waste of time...everyone knows Luigi was going to be in Smash Bros. In the end, the Year of Luigi amounts to two games, one of which he's not even really the main star of.

I love post-direct GAF.

I can think of 160,000 reasons in the last 3 months that say they should do something MASSIVELY different, and given the audience these Directs attract there's no better place to start.

This was a good solid Direct. Nothing mind blowing, sure, but we got dates of upcoming games, we got new details about the games. We got an indie sizzle reel. We got some coll Animal Crossing tie ins. We got a new Nintendo IP. We got Luigi in Smash Bros

What's not to like?

I never played WL3 during the GBC era, so I'll easily download this on the 29th.

Nice to hear Layton vs Wright being localized. Not a fan of either, but I'm still glad/surprised that it's coming to the US.

AC Plaza sounds like a good app, even if it's a community one.

Other than that, nothing new as I predicted.

I am looking forward to the W101 direct.

The NA stream was a snoozer (Here's how to take a screenshot in Pikmin 3, in excruciating detail!) until they revealed PLvsPW. The European stream sounded much better overall with the Indie Sizzle Reel, Shibata antics, and less filler. The Japanese stream was very good, with footage of One Piece, Project Mirai 2, Metal Max 4, Nobunaga's Ambition, and most importantly, Daigasso! Band Brothers P.

I missed it thinking it was in 10 minutes and the only big thing is Luigi in Smash

Is there a Nintendo Direct cycle/flowchart/something? Because this feels like something that would be on there

oh wait, spoke too soon *investigates*

Glad I kept the hype meter in check. As someone who doesn't care about Layton or Phoenix Wright, it was quite boring.

We did see the dark world and more Zelda stuff but no firm release date.
