Sony's Gamescom Media Briefing On "Release Plans for PlayStation 4"

EA said again on their conference, that BF4 will be coming to next-gen "just a bit later" for next-gen consoles...
I think an october release is unlikely for PS4, the launch-lineup wouldn't look really strong without all the big november franchises.

It will give time for Sony to sell DriveClub, Killzone etc...they will have the launch window to themselves

He forgot the unlimited dinners with Kaz voucher.

EA is a really big company and has lots of fans, but else I'd be sure that Sony would have pulled a stunt like: "Oh, jeez EA... uhm, about all those titles you were bringing out this holiday season? Yeah, something is wrong with the certification... but we think we'll fix it around Christmas, maybe January. Until than, you can't release your games."

I mean, come on, Sony must be pissed. Activision, Electronic Arts and Ubisoft now all have big deals with Microsoft.

And what exactly has it done this gen? From where I'm standing it makes absolutely zero difference to hardware sales.

From Peter's comments it did sound like PS4 is going to come later than October. :-( IMACRY

I noticed that too. :( He didn't say "And next gen consoles when they launch." He clearly said "shortly after". There is no way he doesn't know when the consoles are launching.

I don't know. Still could happen but I'm not gonna hold out for October anymore.

Sony can be pissed all they want but that doesn't change the fact that MS has a ton of money which they can do a lot with.

At the same time though going X1 only means you will be getting zero money out of the PS4 install base, which at the very least will be equal to X1's (though honestly I think it will be way bigger).

This generation, at least there was some sort of balance. Sony had Battlefield 3, Microsoft Call of Duty and Ubisoft was flirting with both.

I'm just saying: I can imagine that, for Sony, it now feels like that 'The Big Three' publishers have turned against them.

Well, I'll be at work during the the event, but will try to keep up with what's being announced. I'm really not too hyped or expecting anything all that mind blowing.

Just happy with perhaps seeing more gameplay for already announced titles and getting an announcement on the release for the system.

PS4 better have some exclusives to announce after Microsoft's and EA's relationship.

Don't think Sony's that deep in bed with the major western devs. Sure they're quite tight with some (Ubisoft & Rockstar), but nowhere near as close as how EA/MS is looking right now.

Sony will have to rely on the Japanese devs for that 3rd-party fondness.

Work actually went by pretty quick despite me thinking about this... on break now but I get out right at 1pm and I live across the street from my job so I will be here at like 1:02 or something :p

Is this going to be something we can watch?

This is the moment of truth for Vita. If there are no game announcements for the system today, then there's nothing to look forward to past Tearaway, and that's fuckin' bleak.

But sony has the destiny deal with activision and the deals with ex c on Assassins creed and Watch dogs.

Peter Moore said next gen is starting in a matter of weeks and in Autumn when he was introducing the press conference today. Don't lose hope.

What big deal does Ubi have with Microsoft?

How does this show compares NOW with E3? It seems it has gained more importance every year , or is just because we are at the edge of next generation?

Turned on them by only demoing Destiny, Watch Dogs and AC4 on PS4 with exclusive content for all 3 games.

I'm calling it now... PS4 won't make October. This is coming from someone who was a October Believer as of an hour ago.

You're setting yourself up for terrible disappointment. I'm happy with whatever comes. I don't need AAA megatons. Just more games.

I don't expect to hear anything from ND. They are working on DLC for TLOU and any talk of a possible TLOU will have to wait for the GOTY version next year. ND and Sony wants that DLC monies and any new sales this Fall. It's also possibly too early to talk about Uncharted 4 or what the U3 is working on.

Big deals between publishers and platform owners are common, Sony's not exempt from the occasional dealings here and there.

It's most notable this time though, given how EA is letting like 2/3rd of their entire line-up be moneyhatted.

In the end, money talks. It's not like EA is doing this for MS out of goodwill.

Yep, but Ubisoft deals were made last year. New deals, so far, have been in favour of Microsoft.

It's really odd to say this, but right now, it seems, Activision is the most 'neutral', maybe even in favour of Sony, publisher.

Similarly, Watch Dogs and AC4 have exclusive content for PS4; and Destiny is receiving some heavy 'PS4'-marketing. These things go both ways.

It was worse going into this gen. GTA / DmC / FF. Sony lost a huge amount of exclusives to MS. This time around it's features and content that nobody really gives a shit about. MS have wasted their time and money on pointless exclusive content and release dates instead of coming in at the right time with the right price. They never learn.

Sony dont need EA for a launch, not if PS4 day one buyers have to wait 3 weeks for EA next gen games.

Getting an install base lead ahead of MS i think is way more important for Sony than getting BF4 and FIFA on day one.

Sony 1st party and ubisoft and whatever else is readily available to ship by PS4 launch should be enough to get the PS4 off to a good start.

Worse case senario, the day 1 ps4 games get a few weeks to shine with no competition, then why the hell not launch in late October?
