(If you are) Why are you getting a PS4?

Using PR speak:
The breadth of experiences that are available only on the PlayStation.

Or in other words they have interesting games in a wide array of genres.

1. the streaming capabilities.
2. the ability to watch a friend playing a match online and quickly join their game.
3. the ui not being slow and horrible like current-gen ui.
4. exclusives like infamous, uncharted, driveclub (hopes of wipeout/motorstorm).
5. possible japanese support. i have the two handhelds, but i feel confident that ps4 will get japanese console titles.
6. the controller! it looks really comfortable. i've never had a huge problem with the dualshock 3, but the improvements sound great.
7. remote play with my vita!

Basically the games that come to Sony platforms.
Best Performing Third Party Games

Last generation, I bought the Xbox 360 first along with Elder Scrolls Oblivion. I think I just like new tech and new game systems. I want to get them at launch, but some I wait a little bit for.

Sony has delivered the best overall gaming library of the past 3 respective generations. The PS3 started out weak, but really grew into its own in its later years with Sony's fantastic first party lineup. I expect nothing less from the PS4.

I've always been something of an early adopter, so I tend to buy new hardware at launch. For the PS4 in particular, I like Sony's first party studios and the streaming tools interest me. Also, I love PS+ and look forward to its offerings on the PS4.

I buy all the consoles so I won't miss any exclusives so I went ahead and bought a PS4 to go along with my Xbox One so I won't miss any games.

I like Sony's first party studios.
+ Low price means more of my friends will buy one for multiplayer/co-op.
+ Better free-to-play game support (interest in warframe and planetside 2)
+ Positive experiences with PS+
+ Better digital download support this gen.
+ Better/Wider support of peripherals this gen.
+ Longer term support - PS3 is still going strong.
+ Superior hardware
+ Focus on gaming, across the spectrum, and strong indies support.
+ A history of more experimental gaming, not just waggle gimmickry (although there is some of that, sure)

+ Killzone looks great, and its always been a pretty great series.
+ Infamous
+ Diablo 3 (may be on Xbone, who knows)
+ Naughty Dog and more.

But it's the price and negatives of the other system why I'm buying one. Catch22 much?

It's not a catch 22 but those just seem like bad reasons. If something was cheap and simply had no negatives (which are not positives, just the lack of negatives) then it would seem like there is no NEED to buy it.

I want to get to why people feel they must get it day 1. That is all.

Killzone
Watch Dogs
Black Flag

I can run the multiplats with my 680 and i7 no problem but I am so fucking tired of the bullshit of PC gaming with it's constant tweaking, unoptimized shit ports, and crashing. At least on consoles the game is built for one set of specs. Even indie games like Gone Home don't run at a stable framerate. HOW?!

While I'm not getting a PS4 at launch, I will be getting one next year. Here's why I want one:

1. I've had every Playstation - I got a PS1 in '96, a PS2 a few months after launch, and a PS3 in '09 (hey, I was in University when it came out, can't afford that shit on a student loan).

2. My hands are extremely used to the Dualshock layout. Every time I play on a 360, the controller just feels so alien to me. Symmetrical analog sticks 4Evah!

3. I like Sony's approach to next gen more - I vastly prefer digital downloads and indie games. PSN Plus offers a ton of value for $50, and I'll be going pure digital this coming generation.

4. Sony's first party studios really proved themselves to me, especially Naughty Dog.

5. The Sony platforms generally get the kind of games I want - especially JRPG support. Yes, there are a few great games on other platforms this past generation, and I do love me some Xenoblade Chronicles, but the PS1/PS2/PS3 have proven track records for RPGs.

Because the price being cheaper does not speak to the qualities of the PS4 you would like.
Not really sure why it doesn't. I want the system that is the cheapest way to play sports games and the occasional big AAA game and it is it. 399 vs 499 is the reason I am picking up a PS4. If it was the other way around I would be getting an Xbox.

Very powerful system and its just a great value. PS+ has just blown me away and i just love it on PS3. It seem like it going to keep going like it is on PS3.

I also cannot wait to play DCUO on a system that can run it. On the ps3 it just ran like shit. Plus the other F2P games and EQnext.

Then you have the best console version on third party games. It what the steam box should be...

Definitely the cheaper price compared to PC, which I find to be a hassle. Moreover, the list of exclusives is most appealing on PS4, and most of the indie games I want are going on PS4, and aren't staying exclusive for PC. There really is no reasons to purchase a PC for my own needs.

Also, Naughty Dog.

All of my favorite franchises are generally in the Sony camp or multiplat. Also I've always been a fan of the dualshock and it is my preferred controller lay out.

So why are you picking up Sony's next console?

Two caveats:

1. Don't mention price.
2. Don't mention negatives about any other platform.

Just give me the positives of the PS4.

Full disclosure: I am getting an Xbox One day 1 and have no interest in the PS4 but want to hear the positives about it from those who are getting it.

Just seems like the perfect system backed by the best 1st party devs. There really is no down side, next gen starts Nov 15.

Perfectly reasonable, but why? There must be something that takes your interest?

I'm liking the exclusives a lot more
Games will look better on the PS4
Console UI seemed super fast and with no ads
Rime
I have owned every Playstation console
I love the design of the dualshock 4
Love the consoles look and sleek design
I'm not digging the competitions stand on what a game console should be
Everything is free to use and not hidden behind a paywall(minus mp this time)
PS+ is a fantastic offer

Probably more but that's all I got right now.

Sony's first parties make amazing games, controller looks fantastic, KZ:SF and Infamous Second Son look great, I like the way they're handling PS+, with only online play being behind the paywall, but also having the Instant Game Collection from day one with the PS+ Edition of Driveclub, they've shown that they are willing to try different genres, they make platforming games (both 2D [Puppeteer, Sound Shapes, LBP] and 3D [R&C, Tearaway, Sly, J&D]) which are my favorite genre, Remote Play looks perfect and it will give an all new set of super high quality games that I can play on my Vita while somebody is watching TV, it's only $399 (not sure why that CAN'T be a reason I am buying PS3, which is the thread topic), sharing videos and [more important to me] screenshots, etc.

This seems like a very odd topic with these two caveats
1. Don't mention price.
2. Don't mention negatives about any other platform.

Its like asking why are you choosing one product over the other, btw you cant mention why you think the product you are buying is better than the other......seems fishy

I want a console to supplement gaming on PC and Sony consoles have had the best library of games the last three generations.

Might need to stop sniffing glue
That and Naughty Dog has my absolute trust.

Aside: The Show 14 will be announced sometime after the world series, they never announce it in season.

I keep a close eye on it on various sites. They should show something starting in January for current gen at least. I hope they lead with PS4 though. I'm curious what they can or will do with the extra power. I'm hoping they work to bring the environments to life. It's one of my only reasons for getting PS4.

I'm going to mention price anyway.

I see a lot of value as $399 gets me a console with significant power, and guaranteed 1st party support from Sony's stable of studios.

I'm all in for the power, price, and game variety.

- Nice and sleek

- Best 1st party
- Full commitment from Sony for the entirety of console life
- Most powerful
- Great looking controller

Those are the main reasons.

1. I've enjoyed Sony's franchises since the PS1.
2. Nothing exclusive on Xbone gets me excited (Not a negative about the competition really, just my preferences)
3. I like PS+
4. I like the focus on indies.
5. I have a Vita and cross play appeals to me.
6. My PS3 sounds like a jet engine and I'm ready for new hardware.

Remember all those awesome games on the ps1, ps2, and ps3? Sonys already continuing that trend. That's why.

I have a Vita

I have PS+

I have friends who play on PSN

Naughty Dog

For me, that is enough reason to go for a PS4 over an Xbox One (though, if there are enough compelling reasons + a kinectless SKU in the future I may jump on)

Sony's first party studios have a considerable amount of breathtaking games, and I expect nothing less from their future enterprises. Also, the console's appearance and controller redesign look slick.
