Received my Nexus 10 today and have some problems:

The main delivery box was open (i wouldn't have accepted it but i got it delivered to work and the shipping guys did)

The actual Nexus 10 box was ripped and damaged

Both seals on the Nexus 10 box were broken..!

I have rung Google who are sending a replacement but i don't think this is very good service at all, i have looked online and it seems quite a few people have had similar problems with regards to the seals.

It's a fucking box. Why do you give so much of a shit? Are you a box keeper? Filling your house with crappy boxes like they're trophies of your consumerist life?

I mean, hassling other human beings over such a triviality aside, I just can't imagine a mindset that cares so much about packaging that it would willingly send back and wait longer to use something just because the thing it came in was less than pristine.

The bolded makes me think the highlighted might not have anything to do with Samsung/Google, and everything to do with the carrier that shipped the product man. If the actual packing box was ripped like you are showing in your photos, it looks like someone between the manufacturer and your delivery opened the boxes. They may replace it of course, but I'm not sure what you would expect their 'service' to do about that if someone at the mail carrier is opening stuff.

Well I can understand him not wanting his stuff screwed with. I wouldn't either, thats just ridiculous. I however don't understand why he would consider Googles 'service' to be bad when they have agreed to replace the unit, and the damage appears to have happened with the actual mail carrier. That has nothing to do with Samsung/Google at all, and in that case all that they can do is agree to replace it (which they have). Any further beef with the tampering would have to be pursued with the actual mail carrier directly.

Those photos look like someone wanted to know what was in the box, so the cut open the first. Then they opened the black box inside to get an even better look, lol. Outside of that, the internet claims that seals could be broken if the purchaser selected to have the device synced on delivery, in which case the box is opened and the data synced manually before shipment:

" Thank you for contacting Google Play! The reason some seals are broken is because some customers selected the option to have their devices come already synced with their Gmail account. Someone at the warehouse had to put the information in manually."

It means that there is a chance it was opened and used...

In reply to Zaptruder (wow how hostile are you !!) i paid £320 for a new device, and the actual security seal is broken.

I don't really care what the box and i don't collect boxes (i have a life) the seal is my main issue, how am i not to know this is a returned unit that has just been sent back out or a reconditioned one.

If i pay full price for a new product then i expect a fully sealed unit and i don't think that is too much to ask for.

In reply to Cipherr, i would agree with you about the courier however i have seen ALOT of similar stories on android forums and it cant all be the couriers being nosy surely.

Also i did tick the option to get the device personalized to me and originally thought this was the reason the seals were broken, however when i turned it on the device was not set up for me.

I guess i will see when the new device gets here, i know some people would just keep the device but it would be playing on my mind that it may be used/reconditioned.

You're really taking this very pedestrian matter to a whole new level.

When the device works as expected, who honestly cares? And apparently you even opted for your device to be customized, which seems to correlate to broken seals: Making a mountain out of a molehill.

Yes but device was not customized, seals even say on them if broken do not accept product

Don't think im going too over the top

It's more the fact that this personal matter of yours is of no interest to most and you were treated well by customer support for a non-issue. Not everything needs to be publicised for the world to read.

Yes but device was not customized, seals even say on them if broken do not accept product

So for some reason the customization didn't take: Still seems completely ordinary.

I have no idea what these dudes are talking about. I'd be upset if my Nexus 10 had shown up like that too. That sucks, gibbers, hope they replace it. (Was that so hard, everyone?)

Sorry this is the Nexus 10 discussion post, i am discussing my experience with Google..

I wont bother anymore, i was only wondering if anyone else on here had the same problem

this is gonna be another one of those cases where the replacement unit is worse right?

i don't see how getting an opened box, contacting the retailer and getting sent a replacement IS BAD SERVICE

Any nexus 10 owners use firefox with addons? I rely heavily on lastpass these days and while an app is passable it really works much better when you can have the addon directly integrated with the browser. Firefox on android does allow for addons but on my galaxy nexus that and adblocker cause firefox to take forever to load (30-45 secs). Was wondering if this happened on tablets as well or if the extra horsepower makes it run better.

Will probably wait for google I/O to see if they add extensions for chome (or what other goodies are in the next version of android or maybe some new hardware) and release some kind of a desktop dock for it because that is also one thing I am looking for.

You are right its not bad service, maybe i worded that wrong in the heat of the moment!

I just think its maybe a bad QC process, but anyway hopefully the replacement will be OK (i did have the same thought as you about it being worse)

These are the type of seals that you see on a lot of electronics products, phone etc and they seem pretty tough so to break both in transit seems a bit strange.

Plus the box is in a tight sleeve so even harder for seals to be broken.

Its defiantly not just me, i found a whole 6 page thread on the subject over at xda forums

There is a lastpass addon for dolphin browser, have you tried that?

I would be pissed, too, if my box came to me opened. I bought it new, it better be new. If it wasn't a big deal, companies wouldn't charge less for open box products. But they do. So clearly new =/= open box.

"New" is relative with most products: A seal being intact doesn't indicate anything about whether a product was used before or not. And the replacement might well be worse than what the person initially got. Considering this seems common for UK shipments, it's probably an importer or similar checking the contents of the package.

This is very much like App.net: Much ado about nothing.

yeah, even on the XDA thread, it was like 99% UK peeps with the issue... sounds like some customs thing...

I've had my Nexus 10 for a week now, and I'm still super enthusiastic about it. I just love that screen. Google products integration is fantastic obviously, but that's nothing new, what really shines for me though, is:
- reading comics/manga on it. Such comfort.
- downloading torrents. No need to jailbreak...

It's the most obvious indication. Again, companies sell "open box" products, which may be new, for lesser than sealed box products.

And the replacement might well be worse than what the person initially got.
That's irrelevant.

Can't blame the guy for not knowing that immediately.

Sounds like a Nexus product to me!

Received a replacement, seals intact and box looks brand new compared to the old one.

I can now add this box to my collection :)

Good speedy service from Google to be fair, i retract previous comments

I wouldn't be too happy either if I paid for a brand new product and I get an open box. The fact that it could have been used will always linger in my mind.

How do you download torrent on android device specially the magnet one's

Just picked mine up at Walmart. Was surprised to see it there! I was on a diaper run and my curiosity got the best of me. This is a fantastic tablet. Much better build quality than on the nexus 4 which I did not care for at all.

I'm glad to have stepped away from Apple as there are a lot more interesting things going on on the android side.

My dad's old Windows laptop finally died on him, and he's looking for alternatives for his usual email/web/minimal Office stuff. I'm thinking a Nexus 10 would be great for him, as he really has no need for a laptop.

Thoughts?

He has a Droid X (I know ...), so is familiar and happy with Android as an OS, and he hates iOS, so it seems like the transition would be pretty easy.

I'd go for the Samsung Chromebook myself. It's super thin and light with the added bonus of having a decent keyboard. Also $150 cheaper.

My parents are wanting to get me a tablet for graduation (which is tomorrow), but don't know much about them and asked what I would want in one. I suggested the Nexus 10, but told them they may not want to pull the trigger since Google I/O is next week and they will probably announce a new one. With further reading, I realized the Nexus 10 came out in October, and it hasn't even been a year yet. I don't particularly care about 3G/cell network access (My phone is on Virgin Mobile prepaid). I still fear getting one-upped if they announce a new Nexus 10 next week and release it the week after or something.

If they do announce a Nexus 10, is it likely they would release it really quickly, or after months?

Should I tell my parents to pull the trigger on a Nexus 10 now or just wait?

i doubt there will be a nexus 10 refresh, but just wait. i/o isn't a very long wait.

You can't wait a few days? I bet there's no refresh but come on, it's only a few days.

Anyone successfully use iDisplay or anything else to use the Nexus 10 as an external display on a Mac via USB? I'd like to set that up, but it could only be USB, because I can't use Wifi (laptops and phones/tablets use different networks where I work).

I'd want to use it at full resolution, I'm on a Retina Macbook, and I'm a total pixel snob :)

I got an IPad mi I a out 10 days ago and I'm thinking about returning it and getting a nexus 10. what is the general consensus on this device. I love the form factor of the mini but I hate the lack of widgets and multitasking. It just seems stale to me. I also like google play music and that isn't available on the ipad mini...decisions, decisions, decisions.....

I don't think that you buy a nexus device just to "flash it". See this is why i will never switch to android. Even fucking nexus devices have update problems.
You flash the stock ROM. This is how Apple devices worked up until iOS6. Give me a break.

Jigolo

It's because Google is rolling out a newer build of 4.3 slowly. The old one is technically "voided" and not on their servers anymore. And this new build only started rolling out as of yesterday. You may have to wait up to 5 days to receive the update.

Sucks for me too. My old N10 had 4.3 but I decided to RMA before my warranty expires and get this new one. It got here on Wednesday and also hasn't received the 4.3 update.

Overreact much? The roll out doesn't hit all devices at once and the reason for that is because in case there are issues they can put a stop on it without affecting all devices at once. Flashing it yourself isn't that much different than doing so on iDevice.

Do you know what overreacting is. We brought the fucking thing back to the store and bought a iPad. It will have ios 7 on the day it comes out.

I know how to root and flash. Have done it multiple times. You don't get it. It's for someone else without technical knowledge. Not everyone is a nerd. I don't want to update the damn thing everytime for him. Again the point of a nexus device what that it was android from google with fast updates. This is not the case. Coming up with alternative things doesn't change that fact and you guys know that.

Error total.

I received the update yesterday, but the battery was at like 3% so I decided not to install yet. Something to do when I get home tonight.

it updates itself. there was nothing for you to do. you found something to do about nothing.

If they don't have technical knowledge then how does that person even know or care about getting the update?

The N10 will work perfectly fine in the few days it takes for the update to roll out to them. Only feature I'd imagine someone without technical knowledge caring about is the multiple user profiles. I don't know much about iPads, but is that a feature they already have?

Then buy an iPad if you must have day 1 rollout. The N10 works, unlike a couple N7s I have in hand, you don't have to do the update for him. It will update within a few days. So yes you are overreacting.
