dat reflection

I don't know, maybe there just needs to be better footage, but that reflection just looks off to me. It's too pronounced and too opaque. It's need to be more subtle. Right now it's kinda in your face like a bad lens flare instead of being realistic. Hopefully they'll adjust it before launch.

It's in your face when the sun is flashing right at you. It's more subtle in other situations, and considering the day/night cycle, there's gonna be tons of those.

The thing about that dash reflection that makes it so impressive to my eyes is that is also gets partially obscured by shadows from the trees on the glass. that’s what sells the illusion, imo.

Yeah, shadows get cast on the actually windscreen and not just the dash.

Much more usable than the traditional "in-car view", but you still get the in-car feeling.

I posted this in the Killzone thread but people keep linking it here, which makes sense lol

Drive Club on top, Forza 5 below.

Yea, that sums up the difference to me.

Forza looks great but has that gamey look to it, which is good ( eye candy, more vivid colours) but makes it look... fake in a sense.

Driveclub on the other hand may look a little dull in comparison but overall just has a more natural look and feel to it and the environments.

I much prefer Driveclub's look though, just looks more real.

I think Forza 5 looks amazing. And it definitely has the leg up over Driveclub with image quality, as well as being 60fps. The lighting just looks so much better on Driveclub, though, as well as the gorgeous fully 3D environments. I really hope they improve the image quality on Driveclub, even if they don't get it to 60fps. Could be a VERY good looking game.

Yeah, looks like a dash cam or something. It's nice.

Image quality (AA etc) would probably be one of the last things addressed, so I don't thnk you can read anything into it not being great at gamescom. But yes, fingers crossed.

That is still the most real gif ever

I just know GT5 does not look like that in gameplay

I think it's a mixture of low bitrate and the perfect weather conditions on that lap conspire to make it look real. It's uncanny.

I just think it too over pronounced. Even after the turn it still highly visible on the screen. For flashy graphics, it's alright, but realistic it is not.

How many third person views are there? I think I've only see one so far.

I honestly don't like playing my racing games from a first person perspective. I know thats weird but whatever.

Just thought, with Rushy saying he'll get us uncompressed footage after the weekend - it is a bank (public) holiday here in the UK on Monday so it might be Tuesday that we get the footage.

Forza has great IQ, great motion blur, great shadows.

Driveclub would look a lot better it could improve on the above.

It must be my rose tinted glasses, but the current build of Forza 5 looks abysmal by comparison. I don't even think the IQ is anything amazing, and given that there aren't any night cycles you would have thought that the lighting would be all it could be. I'm positive it'll look amazing when it hits, but all those gifs are pretty weak. Is evolution known for skimping on image fidelity?

Seems pretty realisitc.

I saw that in gamersyde's footage right before they finished the race. I am ALL about a sensible in car view. finally someone gets it right.

looking at all these next gen forza and DC videos, the next thing that sticks out to me that makes it look less realistic are the rear and side mirrors. they don’t look like they’re reflections of the world on a glass mirror. they look like they’re posted video images into a frame.

there needs to be some work to make those mirrors look more like mirrors. there’s differences in brightness, there’s a little less clarity. I dunno.

that’s the kicker, isn’t it? the closer we get to lifelike images, the more pronounced the small things look to take us out of the world.

Both Forza and Driveclub look amazing to me, the biggest difference seems to be lighting and coloring.

Driveclub looks duller but Forza looks more fake. Both have advantages and disadvantages but so far so good.

Forza looked great to me from the start but it's nice that Driveclub is coming a long as well.

EDIT: Sweet, I am a member now :D

I can't recall ever seeing realistic dashboard reflections on a car windshield in a console racer before. Their attention to detail is amazing.

Baked lighting VS dynamic lighting is a big difference.

Forza looks good, Driveclub looks almost photorealistic.

What that gif has to do with baked vs dynamic lighting is beyond me.

And if you're going to compare windshield reflections, this is a much more appropriate gif.

The visibility of it is entirely dependent on the lighting conditions. Shadows can be seen moving across the reflection and hands/steering wheel are seen in real time as well.

And then the LORD David Bowie saith to his Son, Jonny Depp: 'Go, and spread my image amongst the cosmos. For every living thing is in anguish and only the LIGHT shall give them reprieve.'
Hey, this game's 1080p, right?

Really interesting comparing this to that of DriveClubs. You can tell immediately which is pre baked and which is dynamic, because Forza 5's sort of just randomly appears out of no where whilst DriveClub's exactly correlates with the gleam of sun that appears through the tree's.

What am I even reading?

Look at the way the shadows move across it and how it fades away as the car turns away from the sun.

Forza has better motion blur than Driveclub, which is suprising. I think they just added the motion blur recently because I don't remember it there in the E3 build.

I think the only motion blur FM5 has at gamescon in from the screens they are using.

Watching blims 60fps videos there doesn't appear to be any. Perhaps it's because of 30fps video of a 60fps game.

In the sky? What a silly question :p

The positioning of which is not really clear. The entire sky is the same hugh. I know I'm nitpicking, but in terms of lighting accuracy, that scene is off. There is no good indication of which direction the sun is coming from. Not even the railings and flags are casting shadows in the correct direction, nor is the reflection of the dash reacting in any sort of realistic way. It's sort of like Turn 10 just decided that particular spot would be a good time to introduce some dashboard reflection. Not that it matters much, or as if you'd really notice racing at such speeds.

Anyway, OT...

What an absolute load of rubbish.

It's quite obviously to the left of screen with the way the shadows are cast/moving.

Windshield reflections occur all around the track entirely dependent on what the current lighting conditions allow (i.e in shadow/out of shadow. direct sunlight/indirect sunlight).

Both games are doing pretty much the exact same thing except FM5 has the hand/steering wheel reflected as well.
