But I need a confirmation of this, along with all the dirty details, so I can be properly outraged...

I could be wrong but I don't remember SEGA (I'm assuming SEGA Sammy is a subsidiary of SEGA?) having a good track record when it comes to localization.

Other way around, SEGA Sammy is the parent company. SEGA and Sammy respectively are subsidiaries. Index/Altus will become another subsidiary, but has a chance of being a known entity within the company instead of being absorbed by SEGA.

Hey if this means Atlus USA can gain access to Sega's game it can be a good thing.

Yeah. This could either be:

A) Atlus USA localizes Valkyria Chronicles 3!

or

B) Sega Sammy won't localize Persona 5, Catherine 2, or SMTV.

Seriously.

...bad feeling we won't get anymore Atlus games. Bad feeling. Atlus games are more niche than Valkryia Chronicles or Bayonetta, just saying. :(

I'm actually excited. Thhis is the best thing out a really awful scenario. Much better than Capcom, Namco, Konami, Square, etc.

When it comes to any kind of localization these days, my hopes are underneath the floor when Sega is involved. I am still astonished at how badly they have fucked PSO2.

If we're very lucky, SEGA Sammy will just consider Atlus as an investment, and will keep it separate from its normal business operations.

Atlus has a very passionate fanbase, it's popular in Japan, and it has an incredible niche following overseas.

I hope Sega can realize that it cannot burn bridges with these people. Atlus thrives on fan goodwill and good word-of-mouth.

I didn't expect that. Wonder if it Sega Sammy will Merge Atlus and Sega into one entity, or leave them separate. Hope Sega is able to find a way to bring some of the better untranslated games from Atlus' catalog to NA, and expand them into the PC market.

Could go either way really. Sega has been pretty poor on the localization front but I'm loving their PC support these days

Don't know what to say, but I do hope this somehow means we actually get more localizations...

Vakyria Chronicles 3. Yakuza 5. Phantasy Star Online. Persona 5.

like these, though I really want the bolded, use their business model to give us more games, SEGA.

We'll see how it'll actually go.

Could go either way. Sega Japan is a worry. Sega USA and Atlus USA might be a good fit, if only to have someone in the company to advocate for more localizations. Also, Atlus USA has experience in how to profit from low volume niche releases.

But, again, Sega Japan. Bunch of asshats when it comes to the US.

Sega has done well with letting its PC franchises flourish.

Ideally they'll just own Atlus from afar and let them have complete creative control like usual.

I'm hopeful this relationship will end up benefiting us as consumers. This is one situation where I'll stay cautiously optimistic for the time being.

Cautiously optimistic . . . yes, this describes my feelings on this as well.

I'm so conflicted with Sega, I need mah Sonic, but that's not all I fucking want!

Well, if Sega decides to cut Atlus USA, them SCEA should hire those folks for the new third party localization team they're supposedly forming.

I really hope they keep Atlus separate and don't try to merge them with Sega. If Atlus USA goes away, megaten is pretty much dead. We would never get a new persona or SMT again.

I am on board. Sega acquisitions have been freaking money.

And a hearty lol at anyone thinking this will affect any localization stuff

Time to buy up every Atlus/SMT/EO game currently available. We won't see any by 2015.
On the bright side, with no new Atlus titles being released in North America and Square Enix continuing to spiral into irrelevance, people will no longer have ANY excuses to ignore the greatness that is The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky (aka Sora no Kiseki). Thank you XSEED for finally hearing our pleas!

We don't have "get out of jail free" cards, but if we did, she'd have one.
I get that everyone's mad at Sega over Yakuza, but...aren't the costs for a Yakuza a bit greater than at least SMT and EO? Why is it assumed that localizations will completely disappear?

Not saying the pessimism isn't justified, I just kinda wish someone would explain it to me...

This explains why Persona videos were taken down from Youtube...

This is sounding more awful by the minute.
Wasn't that some random Russian actress basically copyright trolling?

He's a pretty swell guy in my books anyway.

People don't realize that Sammy still calls the shots, it's not entirely split operations. They aren't going to leave all the business people who do the exact same things they already have at Atlus, but hopefully they consider what they do with the company and brands carefully.

Why are strippers at the U.N. bad when they're great at strip clubs???
I'm surprised that Sega has purchased Index Holdings as Sega within the last few years have struggled posting profits - Sammy is the one profiting, not Sega. I wonder what this means for the Atlus brand? Will it become a separate entity or merge as one.

I'm saddened that Nintendo did not take this opportunity and secure franchises such as Shin Megami Tensei, Persona, and so forth to their platforms. They could of clearly benefited from such titles. Nonetheless, with such a strong relationship with Sega, I don't think much will change.

Considering Sega's history of not localizing stuff I really don't see how this is humorous.

I hope the folks at Atlus USA make it through okay.

Yeah, very soon, Xseed and NIS may be the only ones who we can rely on for our JRPGs.

Atlus filled that void but now they may disappear as well.

Does the timing of this announcement mean that we'll get to hear the fruits of the partnership relatively quickly (i.e. now at TGS) ?
