Deep Down is Free to play, beta near PS4 Japan launch

I agree, and I'm not advocating that. I'm just trying to explain why some are concerned (and might in fact be happier with a traditionally distributed and designed title).

That is just it. Just make the game worth the price of admission, let me buy it, play it and be left alone without trying to sell me everything as I play. I don't want to continually be prompted to charge my credit card for all of the features and items that I would simply get from just buying a content-packed $60 title.

Chances are, one would end up paying even more than that with everything being stripped out and itemized. That is the entire reason they want to use this model, not to give us a free game out of the kindness of their hearts. They want to get people addicted to constant micro-transactions like they are playing a fucking slot machine. No thanks.

I have yet to play a F2P game that has not struggled to deliver consistency and quality content.

This game being F2P, despite the awesome visuals, makes me worry how shallow the experience will be.

Thought Emoji Movie was good. Take that as you will.
Well, fuck. I didn't follow much since the initial quick trailer announce.. but now.. now I don't want this as all.

Not the kind of game I want any kind of F2P system on... as microtransaction solution will have to be intrusive for them to make money... this isn't dota2 or TF2 where people are going to spend money making their little paper dolls cooler.

As far as I know, it's very popular in Japanese phone F2P games, and it's also used in more and more Western ones.

It's terrible.

It's the arcade model, basically, and it's not half bad assuming PvP elements come with usable rank filters. (Well, it's probably pretty bad in the long run for sucking the air out of all your competitors I suppose.)

There's a right way of doing F2P and a wrong way of doing F2P.

The right way to do it would be like Dota 2 or PoE where game play is not affected by purchases instead it's cosmetic. In PoE they offer you arbitrary stuff like like stash space and I think character slots. They sprinkle some pets here and there and most of the other stuff is cosmetic.

The wrong way to do F2P is to make the game P2W. That's when the game goes to shit.

Knowing Capcom they are probably going to go with the bad way of doing F2P but I will still check it out once it hits beta. Fingers are crossed. Do the right think Capcom.

I will remain cautiously optimistic, but I have my doubts now. I would much rather pay $60 and not have to worry about nickle n dime shit.

F2P = P2W.

No thanks.

I was excited about Deep Down and this pretty much instantly killed it for me. I despise this pay model with a passion.

what I'm afraid of is that an AAA game has high development costs, so if it's free it would mean a lot of content and features are locked behind $.

I'm a money-smart person, that's not my cup of tea I prefer to pay once and forget

More like exceptions to the rule than the standard of F2P, yes?

Also, this genre, give me an example of unobtrusive fully cosmetic F2P-model?

Planetside 2, Blacklight: Retribution, Warframe, World of Tank among others aren't P2W also. I think people need to get that F2P = P2W out of their heads, times have change.

I'm sorry but a guy who has unlocked everything in Planetside 2 has a clear advantage over someone who has everything vanilla if they had the same skill.

Well, this practically guarantees that everyone will at least try it, including me.

I mean, it's free. If it actually turns out good then it will be worth spending money on later.

LOL What planet do you live on?

I live in the present, unfortunately you seem to be stuck in the past, I'm not saying all F2P games aren't P2W but the misconception that they all are is really annoying. BF3 had P2W but I haven't heard anyone complaining about it.

All perfect examples of how F2P can work really well. 3 of which will be making its way to the PS4.....with Sony's involvement in the title maybe they have a plan to make it work in the western market. I understand why a lot of people are skeptical but maybe we should wait for details. This is not a IOS game.

I don't live in the past, I'm merely realistic. You seem to think that we're experiencing a paradigm shift away from P2W when in fact you're pretty much just drinking the kool-aid. [clap] And re: BF3 do you have functioning ears? That's easily the worst part about BF3 and I've heard plenty of people complaining about it. BF3 is fucking awful for that reason alone. Welcome to 2011.

Listening to the latest cagcast and they said that the game controlled like a very janky tech demo. Graphically the game is the only thing that really looks next gen if your use to playing on the PC.

No they don't. All the stuff you can buy is properly balanced and everything else is just cosmetic.

It shouldn't have to be even said that the game will only enter beta for the PS4 JAPAN launch. The game is very far out still.

Make it F2P with Real Money store. Gear otherwise drops from chests at a lower rate. Mission accomplished. Make it really hard, so people want to buy gear because they can't deal with the challenge. Since it is online/co-op, friends will want to buy gear to be on par with their friends. As long as everything is obtainable in game, I don't have complaints if they go this route. People with less (no) time can pay to get better gear. People that like a challenge or have more gear can grind/clear memories for gear at a slower rate.

I get that some people compartmentalize games as meaningless entertainment luxuries with no care or expectation of fair play or earned accomplishments, but for people who do, what you're describing (verbatim pay 2 win I might add) is akin to saying "I don't have the time or intelligence to earn my degree so I should just be able to buy it."

If 2 light assaults, 1 having all the certs and the other having nothing were to shoot each other at the same time with weapons of relatively the same damage output, the one with all the certs would win 100% of the time.

125% health vs 100% health.

deep down will be online only.
deep down will be free to play.

F2P plus the pro. gen. dungeons announced earlier make me question how much of a game there even is.

It sounds like they're trying to monetize a tech demo.

You still have to beat the game to win. All this does is make it faster for the lazy people. There is only 1 other F2P model that works, and it very rarely works. They type of game cannot sell "characters" to play as because you yourself are the character. I guess they could sell you "skills" and give you only a few skills to work with....
