GTA Online monetization model leaked. Buy money. [Found on Rockstar Servers]

They've gotta earn money one way or another.... To add onto the other $1.5 billion that they've already earned!
I've got zero problem giving Rockstar more money for more content. Bring it on.

I just don't like the effects some of these monetization schemes can have on a game's design.

I'm cool with this as long as it pays for an amazing multiplayer experience, a vast amount of online content, and servers that don't crash every ten minutes.

On a related note, since money seems so important in the multiplayer, I hope we can eventually play online Texas Hold 'Em as we could in Red Dead Redemption DLC. Especially for high stakes! It would be a very fun way to win and lose money.

Fuck Rockstar for putting in this kind of DLC. Didn't they know this was going to be the fastest selling game of all time or something? They should just give away this game for free. They can't have alternate revenue paths if they are already successful.

No wonder it's so hard to earn money in this game outside of heists.

I'm not entirely buying that idea either. At least not yet.

If anything, it's probably difficult to make money to underline the actual narrative, or to provide a legitimate challenge to players.

I'm not far through, but the game has been out a week, perhaps it's intended to provide a longer grind for those more willing.

What it comes down to is that there are ways to make money but they need the social club to be fully functioning which isn't something that we have yet.

Holy shit.

Yes, buying cash means it goes straight into the bank account. BUT anything they buy such as jets or cars can probably be stolen. Rockstar themselves have said you need to keep an eye on your own stuff or even hire people to watch it for you.

The duder that buys a million dollar jet might not have it when GAF Street rolls on by, and if duder buys multiple cars or jets with real cash its time for large scale heists.

I'm actually hoping now real cash can be used, just to grief the fuck out of people. If real cash is in, and you can steal what they buy, its time to do some scores.

EDIT: I don't know if it would be against Microsoft's/Sony's TOS, but holding a jet or vehicle ransom for marketplace currency would be hilarious. My god, stealing some kid's jet or tank and making them pay up would be glorious.

Grand Theft Auto in-fucking-deed.

The stories will be bigger than those on EVE. Not bigger since its just 16 players and not MMO scale, but the imagine the potential...

I will never play this.

I'm disappointed by this revelation but it won't stop me enjoying the online mode and hopefully it is still reasonably achievable to get the best items.

Money appears to be the impetus behind everything in multiplayer so this doesn't seem like a good idea at all. The potential of somebody buying items with real money and then having them all 'stolen' in-game the next day doesn't seem like a headache Sony or MS would want to deal with either. Hopefully it's just old code and real money purchases will be restricted to vanity items and DLC down the line.

This is crap, but I'm okay with it if I can still earn the money in game without it being impossible.

Hopefull it's only for lazy people.

Wooooow this examples a lot. Was wondering why money is so few and far between missions

I keep seeing this I get confused. You all realize, if true, this is for getting money in Online which has nothing to do with your single player experience.

dave is ok

aztek is ok
Your story mode characters are separate from your GTA Online character, this has nothing to do with how hard it is to make money in the game itself.

You should be able to make an ample amount of money through the regular progression of the game to get what you want.

I think the underlying fear with most people is that they will limit our opportunities to make money so that we are more tempted to spend real money.

Thought the packs were tied to both SP and MP. Could just be MP.

Learn2read?

"Cash is king in this town. Solve your money problems and help get what you want across Los Santos and Blaine County with the purchase of cash packs for Grand Theft Auto Online. All purchased cash is automatically deposited into your character’s bank account. Spend wisely, cash therapy is fleeting."

assumption: the money you earn in a round can be stolen within the round, but is later deposited into the bank account.

That's why this comes in handy.

im only okay with this if every update comes free of charge.

I'm not the type that gets all twisted over stuff like this since I'll either enjoy the online without paying or pay for stuff like Dota 2 items etc. and in this particular case I'd rather have the satisfaction of making money on my own :)

Still I guess it's a little ironic LOL

If this ends up being true, I guess I'll have to be okay with it being an amazing singleplayer game. I'll be honest, the fact auto aim is on by default in MP really bugs me and I was considering not even touching the thing because of it, but slowly got over that and decided to give it a try anyways.

This will possibly kill any enthusiasm I had left if it's implemented. Granted, only if it's as imbalancing as it can potentially be. Could end up being nothing.

Still, I'm hoping they aren't this greedy. They've already made so much, and could continue to make more off GTA V in so many other ways.

Trading my game in the second I'm done with single player.

I didn't sign up for this 60$ f2p bullshit.

No longer buying Rockstar games day one. Fucking gross.

They were one of to few companies doing dlc right.

God I love when people overreact like this. Just wanted to point out how funny this was.

We've reached new heights of drama with this post.

Go ahead and trade your game in so another kid can walk out of GameStop with his shiny new copy of that filthy GTA V to enjoy.

Is it an overreaction though, their previous games all had nothing but exceptional - critically acclaimed extra content.

Yes? This has nothing at all to do with "extra content".

The online portion isn't even out yet. People flipping shit about being able to buy ingame cash, that's most likely going to be easy to earn in multiple other ways, is pretty funny.

That's it I'm breaking my GTAV disc into a hundred pieces...
Can't tell if joking or ThatEscalatedQuickly.gif

Personally, I'll be happy just playing GTA Online without putting extra cash into the game. Just gotta make sure your money's in the bank and you're not carrying large sums around with you at any one time, at least without your crew present.

I think the snarky "how dare they charge money for content" strawmen are missing the point (and going about it in a pretty gross way too). It's not disappointing because you'll have to pay money for content, it's disappointing because it will possibly create a situation where those who are willing to throw money at the game will get better stuff, creating an imbalance between those who will and won't pay and devaluing the in game effort to earn the money (and the game as a competitive experience).

Obviously we don't know the details yet, but buying in game cash can go real rotten real easily.
If the multi-player was a big selling point for me I'd feel ripped off.

Actually your best bet against Rockstar would be to keep the game and never spend a dime. If you trade, you gonna let Rocstar get some doe from another person. Be wise man.

so all the money I make in GTA single player cant be transfered to my online character in GTA online?

thats retarded.

I am done with GTA V after I am done with single player .

Take the disc to the cracks of Mount Doom, and toss it into the fires from which it was forged!

So is this suppose to be MMO? Or will there just be tons of servers?

I have no idea what's really going on with GTA Online. A lot of the promo video they released tries to make it out like it's this huge persistent world.....but then later it's revealed that it supports a maximum of 16 players. Given the size of Los Santos, that's really not very many people.

FUCK THIS SHIT if true. I dont care about buying special skins and crap but if someone has an advantage because they bought something with real money faster while I have to grind it out, I'm out.
