We don't know yet. People expect both to reach parity in features. Maybe Gaikai? Depends if MS has the infrastructure in place to compete with that.

I'm so sick of the Metro-look. I liked the XMB. If they just added more customization options, I would love it.

Hopefully they will support all streaming sites and just merge them all within the UI. Twitch is a lot better than ustream.

Now that they've released official clear images of it it does look better, but I still don't really like the blue and dark backgrounds they've got going on for things. And the browser and videos etc being in that row of icons worries me a bit. I don't want games and "apps" colliding. But I'm sure they've got that covered. It is only one screen after all.

I think that screen that shows the number of viewers is hinting at an increased friends list. Which would be awesome because I've been full for years.

I have no strong preference for XMB, but I agree with you about Metro. It's so overplayed now.

Love what you did with it here. Almost looks real haha.

I've actually started to make some changes to the original PSD I made to give more space for icons and text, and I've started to mess around with colours for the backgrounds and stuff. But I'm also interested in having no backgrounds similar to how Iacobellis had it.

Also looking into how it might work if the player has a bright wallpaper and how the text would change.

I've always liked the XMB for its sleekness and it personally makes me think "Yeah, that's Playstation".

But this new UI looks a lot better; fast (I hope!), and functional.

Even though these are just initial pics, I like it. It looks professional, sleek, and less crowded. Hopefully navigating through the menus is intuitive.

There are two features i really want.

Release Calender
Tracks all official release dates in calender form. Selecting a listed title will take you straight to a dedicated page with all relevant info i.e. description, previews, demo and trailers.

Personal Library (can be merged with Trophy page)
Display your entire PS4 library (both disc and download) in a customizable list. User can rate and review individual titles, which can be viewed by (authorized?) friends.

I like those ideas.. especially the release calendar. Should be a simple thing to include.

My only complaints are the background color and some of the screens look too plain (like the Share screen). There's a fine line between boring and minimalistic.

That's definitely showing through here, I agree. Could just be that it's unfinished, but some areas just seem to lack a certain amount of inspiration.

but eh. the OS is very geared towards touch friendly devices. unsure if i like it. just want to see it in motion.

Well we already had seen this from that video a number of months back, this looks like the text chat room that the PS3 and Vita does already, just on PS4. Which is no doubt why on the OS bits we've seen they use the word "parties" as we can have voice and text parties and multiple ones at that going on at the same time.

I think it looks nice, but each to their own, the wave in the back moves around like the PS3 and Vita ones do, so it is perfectly possible they will allow themes again. I imagine seeing as the system has a proper running OS at all times they will be more advanced than the ones we currently have on PS3 too.

Oh man, if we're able to track playtime I'll be happy. Glad to see we can keep track of trophy progress too.

I never thought about it like that... would be very cool! You could plan out all your wallet emptying to-do's on a neat little calendar interface lol. Id love it... esp. if there were little countdown timer widgets or something you could have unobtrusively linked from the calendar to the main homescreen/page. "[31 days 12 hours & 7 minutes until Half Life 3] "
