720p should still be solid.
http://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?p=8862640#post8862640I should have mentioned this earlier but there were very noticeable framerate drops coming out of turn 3 and heading up the top of the mountain. It should be noted there were only 7 AI drivers, so considering (I couldn't be bothered looking up but I'm pretty sure..) the full release will support 16 vehicles at once, the performance was pretty poor. It's highly likely it was limited to 8 for balancing issues but there were still quite noticeable drops in frames. I didn't notice any tearing, though.

sounds very familiar to the gt academy demo performance.
i'm not sure why they increased the resolution in the first place.

Only in 1080p. 720p is pretty much a locked 60fps. And they increased the resolution because it's a 2013 released game on a next gen console.

Yeah, with SIX cars on screen. So we STILL don't know if it will be a smooth experience with 16 cars on screen and/or on more demanding tracks.Just stick to 720p and things should be fine. That resolution in the demo was basically locked at 60fps. It's the 1080p resolution that causes it to struggle.

What's the point of "1080p" then? Should've kept the "1080p" resolution of GT5 and optimize it. Not sure why they went higher than 1280x1080p when they had enough performance problems in GT5 as it is. They also knew they had to improve shadows and smoke (alpha effects), tearing, dithering, framerate problems etc. It seems they improved the alpha effects of the smoke already, which is good. Shadows are just reduced to almost invisible (in the cockpit), hope they will come back in a later build. They should only increase the resolution if all these things are taken care of, but they put the priority of the small resolution bump in spite of all these problems. At least we can choose 720p, but again, it´s still not guaranteed to be a locked 60fps with 16 cars. Their priority should be the game's performance, not a negligible resolution bump.
And next gen console? What?!

We can't even easily 'choose' 720p without resetting the system level resolution. If I could have my XMB set to 1080p and the game let me choose 720p that'd be ok, but you can't.
You're assuming the final version is gonna perform the same way as a WIP version will
You have to do that? I haven't played GT5 for a while, but I remember there being a resolution thingy in the options. I thought you could just select it from there....too bad.We can't even easily 'choose' 720p without resetting the system level resolution. Why are we all hyping over a bullshot trailer?
Because it's a track that fans have wanted in the series for a long time.
It's not all about graphics, you know.
I'm seeing a lot of the "wow, the lighting!" "amazing detail" comments.
I'm sure that's graphic related.
Why are we all hyping over a bullshot trailer?
I'm willing to bet it won't look that good during actual gameplay.
Well, the lighting doesn't actually change between "Bullshots" and gameplay. So that's not an issue.
Plus, people are excited because the lighting in the trailer changes. Meaning that it will have the option to change the time of day.
It'll look like that, minus the godly IQ. Everyone already knows this.
I still think Forza 4 looked nicer. Don't shoot me on that guys.
It's okay. I was actually expecting you to say something like this.
And no. Forza 4 did not look nicer than either GT5 or 6. Crushed blacks and blown out whites do name make a game look good.
I never played GT5
I think this is the first video of drifting in GT6

Impressions from the drivers (LVracerGT from GTplanet)
I believe it looked nicer, maybe due to constant 60fps though.
I never played GT5, just heard it was "okay" with terrible engine sounds.
I saw it running tonight at EB expo in Sydney.
i'm not going to worry about gameplay and all that, i'm not the person to go into that.
but I can say the framerate is REALLY inconsistent, sometimes it's smooth enough but it often goes to shit, especially when you add a bit of tyre smoke into the equation... it's all over the place in general.
all i'm saying is don't get too excited after watching that snazzy trailer, it's stuttery, it's shimmery and there are no V8 supercars.

Has there been a confirmation that there are no V8 Supercars in GT6?
It would be crazy of they included a bunch of shitty NASCARs no one wants to drive and not some of the awesome V8s.
The opinions and ctitical positions should always be created based on other people experiences, I agree.
If you never played it why even bring the "constant 60fps" comment up? What a poor troll attempt.
Well those NASCAR cars already exist, so there's that.
Well I've sat with a friend who's played the game so I can tell how it looks.

Smh... I meant PD already made the models. That doesn't make any sense. There are a bunch of V8 supercars that exist as well. It doesn't have to be the selection from the newest season.
Alright, I get it guys.
I'll be taking my leave then. Apologies if anyone was annoyed at all.
Smh... I meant PD already made the models.
For a single track, we take over 100,000 photos and laser scan the track surface, and we also use images captured from helicopters and satellites, Mr. Yamauchi said. The discrepancy of track accuracy is down to plus or minus one centimeter. We do the same for cars; we take several hundred photos for each car, laser scan the surface, the exterior, the interior, the instrument panels.
Current gen. They should never have gone above 720 given the PS3 hardware. The tearing they seem to find acceptable drives me bonkers. I don't mind the framerate stuttering itself, it is the tearing that drives me mad.
I don't know much about this game in regards to performance and everyone's expectations, I am just giving you guys a report on what I saw.
also, I don't know how old the build is or anything like that.
the frame rate drops were evident even when there were no other cars on screen, it was all over the place and being a racing game makes it VERY noticeable, you really want a solid frame rate and preferably 60fps, if they had that at 720p then it's a BIG mistake trying for 1080p because like I said it's all over the place.
I recorded some footage but can't upload until tuesday as my adsl is shaped 'till then
GT6 is vsynced. No more tearing.

I've never seen PD mention this before and it's really not surprising considering how accurate the tracks are, but they do laser scanning for tracks

Kaz just can't help himself. He's lives in the bigger is always better world. Doesn't matter if he can't get smooth performance at 1080p, he wants to be able to claim the highest resolution possible. Doesn't matter if the game has a completely inconsistent presentation, he's got to keep the standard cars in to keep the car count sky high.
At this point I'm nearly certain the retail version is going to perform poorly at 1080p. Kaz just couldn't help himself and they had to up that resolution even further. Call me stupid or a hater all you want, I just don't see them improving the framerate that much in this final stretch, especially considering the framerate is having problems with no cars on the track, or very few. Imagine when you throw in more cars and weather.
But, I'll be the first person to sing the praises of Polyphony if this game ships being rock solid at 1080p. I will be very impressed, but I just don't see it happening.
