Eh, it's fine. Perhaps not as great as it was on iOS 6, but you're not looking at the terrible experience you get on an iPad 3.

I disagree, but I'm pretty sensitive to performance. One of the biggest attractions of iOS for me since the beginning was its smooth performance. When it turns all sluggish and choppy like so many Android devices, it loses a lot of its appeal.

I also think that the iPad Mini OG is going to be treated like the original iPad was in that support for it will be dropped by everyone with the quickness.

I just don't see the value in saving $150 for a vastly inferior device. I know different people have different priorities, though.

Why do people buy Apple hardware without doing research? Check out macrumors.com in the future, they will tell you if it is a good time to buy or not.

Well... I did research and I knew Haswell MBPs are coming but I didn't know that they'll lower the price. Would still consider MBA anyway, cheaper , I don't need cpu power and the retina screen that much but can't say I've no regrets.

The iPad mini retina price isn't all that surprising given what it is, but for me I might not care if the full size iPad is that much lighter.

What would be the point of that, they are both running the same resolution and need to handle exactly the same content.

Battery life. ipad air has a bigger battery so it could run the CPU a bit faster. (see how older iPads ran the chips faster than iPhones.

that said… I expect the Mini and Air to be running at around the same speed

Any deets about the Mini's ram capacity and thickness?

Why are they not giving the option for the discrete graphics for the 15rMBP at $1999?The previous $2199 one had the Nvidia 650 chip in it.

This sucks, I don't want to spend an additional $500 just for that Nvidia card, I really don't need the RAM and HD space.

Damnit Apple.

Is there anything comparable to Safari? Smooth web browsing is make or break.

Dolphin on Android has been the equivalent for me.

I use Chrome on my desktop but it's just awful on Android if you're accustomed to Safari on iPad or have ever tried Dolphin.

The Mini has a much smaller battery. I'm finding it hard to believe they are exactly the same spec and the same battery life.

With the prices and new lighter weight of the Air, the mini became completely uninteresting to me. Give me the larger screen all day. The mini isn't ready enough to hold one handed to make up for its size with the Air now at a pound.

I know the iPads are winning the conversation, but would it make a difference to get an i7 over an i5?

2.6GHz Dual-core Intel Core i5, Turbo Boost up to 3.1GHz
2.8GHz Dual-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.3GHz

I can't decide.

So they downgraded the gpu from 650m to iris pro?

No wonder they put the price down for base models.
All of them use the Iris Pro, except for the most expensive model.

My biggest issue with the larger iPad is typing, the Air helps with arm fatigue but it doesn't help with that. I'd have to use the split keyboard in portrait and landscape (which I hate). The mini is still the perfect form factor for an iPad IMO.

iPad mini is now £319? lol RIP in peace!
I know it will still sell extremely well but that is an £50 markup from the old £269 price which was the sweet spot.

iPad Air sounds like the best bang for your buck, slightly concerned with the A7 not being an X variant, need to watch the presentation about it since I was working.

Eagerly awaited the Mini Retina but at $419 CAD for 16GB wifi I'm going to have to pass.

Will just keep my iPad 3

Yep. I was ready to buy one too. Wanted to have it for my tour in mid November. Now I can't justify buying either of these ones. The old one will be out of date super quick and the new one is just too expensive.

So is there any good reason to get an air over a 13" rMBP?

For $200 and 0.5 lbs more you get:
2.4ghz Non-ULV processor vs 1.3ghz ULV
Intel Iris vs HD 5000
Thunderbolt 2
Retina screen
Additional thunderbolt port
HDMI port

Typing is better on a mini I will definitely give you that.

Well, $200 is a fair bit. Plus the Air has better battery life. 12 hours vs. 9 hours.

not really. If that half pound is really a deal breaker, then so be it. But the 13” retina with the new price is a much more capable and versatile machine.

When it launched at around $1700 or $1800, it was a real bad deal and the intGPU was choppy for the screen. But now it’s a very solid choice and pretty fast. I used to think the 13” Air was Apple’s best balance of power and size. I think the new 13” retina takes over that spot.

Weighing those same thoughts right now. I'm going rMBP for sure. Much beefier machine without as much compromise. The only advantage I see that the Air has, in addition to being thinner and lighter, is that it has 12-13 hour battery life. Which is very impressive.

Agreed. Considering the configuration I was pricing on an Air last night is now only $50 less than the 13" Retina today, its a no brainer for me.

I'm still debating between these two too :/

This is actually an issue? I have a mini and I have never noticed any issues. Maybe I'm just lucky?

I think iOS 7 on the mini is fine. performance within apps is still A-OK and the occasional stutter for wallpaper parallax animations isn’t a deal breaker.

What are you doing with the computer? I'd say for a huge majority of people the i5 is more than sufficient. It's a hundred dollar upgrade, no?

Really thinking of saving up and getting the 13" MacBook Pro.

I'm not very computer literate, but I do understand some stuff.

How much better is the 15" compared to the 13"? I would like a bigger screen but it's so much more expensive.

Was really hoping Apple would shock the world with an iPad Pro with OSX.
Now I'm contemplating between the RMBP or the Dell XPS 15.

Ordered the 15" rMBP with the GT750. Been waiting a long time to put my 17" MBP out to pasture and get one of these. Glad they didn't bin the dGPU. Happy bunny.

I ordered the default 2.3Ghz CPU. Hope I don't regret getting the 2.6Ghz, but I don't think I will. Both i7, both same cache size etc, it's just a MHZ bump, so stuff would be slightly faster, but architecture is the same. I don't really do video etc. I do RAW photos, but even my 17" runs on with aperture, so this will be faster. I don't think I'd notice the difference in my usage worth another £200 on the £2200 I've already busted out.

Will be the first non-BTO mac I've had!

Honestly, I'm gonna just get the 13" or base 15".

The price on 15 rmbp with 750 is ridiculous. 500 bucks more for 10-15% graphical difference? No ty.

Anyone else feel both iPads just have 1gb ram? I don't think they are bumping the ram on the bigger iPad, just getting mini on parity to 1gb.

It's $300 less than the previous high end 15" though? Compared to the old "best" 15" rMBP you get

Better CPU
Better GPU('s)
Better PCIe Flash
Better battery life

Seems ok to me Value wise. for $599 more you get double ram, double flash & CPU bump as well as just the GPU...

The weird thing is if you spec the base 15" out to the same spec as the high end, it's the same price (well, $1 cheaper) , but you get no dGPU.

The renamed iPad to 'Air' certainly sets it up for an iPad Pro in the future. I'd be surprised if there isn't one by the end of next year. I'm sure Apple doesn't want to lose too many graphic artists and designers to products like the Surface Pro.
