RUMOUR: Xbox One version of Call of Duty: Ghosts is 720p, PS4 version is 1080p?

A shitstorm is coming. If this were true...

It just can't be. I refuse to believe it. I saw that post about the PS4 version of Ghosts being 90FPS unoptimized and Xbox One's version being 15. But this...there is no way to spin this.

How long till IGN updates their media player with the new quality settings?

People want to measure the power of Xbox One based on Call of Duty?

That's joke right? It is obvious that if the rumor is true, it's not lack of power.

Uh, you realize it's the complete opposite right? If the Xbone can't even run a CoD game at 1080p while PS4 does it easily, that's almost like saying the Xbone is fairly weak in comparison.

Maybe not raw power but EsRAM /Rop/DDR3 Bandwidth trouble with not enough space to fill the framebuffer with AA etc - It all seems open for debate atm

its fun to speculate though. i dont expect any more surprises this close to launch though. drive club delay was enough. NO MORE SURPRISES! (unless good) lol

I for one am glad that Microsoft got a handle on this madness.

1080p is just wayyyy too many pixels - how can anyone appreciate a game that's displayed over 1920 x 1080 aka 2,073,600 pixels?!!! Even if it's only 30FPS that means you have to deal with OVER 60 MILLION PIXELS every second.

Just as the human thumb can't comfortably deal with a screen size any bigger than an iPhone, the human brain can't handle that many pixels.

Sony, you dun goofed! Lol!

lmao. how reddit feels about "AstroGAF" always makes me laugh
I am going to offer some logic here, for only a few sentences.

The X1 original dev hardware (sent out possibly 8-18 months ago) had 12 gigs of ram. The PS4 dev hardware had 3-5 gigs of ram (possibly sent out around the same timeframe as X1's).

I think that for the past year, or however long the dev kits were in the wild, companies were coding their games to those specifications.

When Sony found out X1 was going with 8 gigs earlier in the year, they upped theirs last minute to 8 as well. (big change for being so close to launch).

Microsoft seen no reason to really force the extra 4 gigs (and risk sounding like idiots) by saying "We actually decided on 12 gigs guys!". Their plan might of been to say 8 at first, then do 12 if Sony was at 12, or some other number that made X1 look weaker.

This left all companies scrambling to dumb down their un-optimized games for X1's lesser hardware. This is of course assuming the X1 devs were just making a mess with their coding and using up tons of extra ram for no apparent reason.

I am still convinced, even if this is not exactly what happened, that X1 did intend on 12 gigs of ram like their dev kits. But changed it last minute. The PS4 has only a small margin of power, yet plenty more 1080p offerings, only reinforcing such reasoning.
lol some crazy rationalization over there.

What the fuck!?

This could potentially be huge. I know friends that are in love with the 360 and have Ones preordered, but are easily swayed by graphics.

I still don't believe this.

Would the mods let this go like this if they knew the group assumption was wrong?? They couldn't, right?

No way, we must be wrong here. Im agnostic at best on this

So my XBO will be a great cable box and media box, and my PS4 will be my game console?

Sounds right based on this.

(I am still a bit excited for the XBO just for the media stuff, is that bad?)

what media stuff? you want to watch netflix? or watch live tv with a xbox guide overlaid?

the media capabilites of the xbone is way overhyped.

How in THE HELL is Ryse pushing 900p with those goddamn visuals then?

Seems to me like we should wait for a full picture.

If true then...idk what to think. It has to be an Activision issue. Forza is 1080p and GHOST doesn't look anywhere as good.

That's one thing it could say. It could also say that MS sucked when it came time to supporting devs with XDK updates/tools etc.

I'm no pixel whore, but...

People are measuring practical performance of the consoles based on one of the only non-theoretical metrics available: cross-platform games.

Whether Xbone CAN support a 1080p game doesn't matter as much as ARE developers going to get it to do so, particularly with games that do run 1080p on PS4.

Sooo, next gen roughly looks like this then?

PS4 > XBO >= Wii U

I've always been an Xbox guy (l own a PS3, but still prefer the xbox), but damn, when do we get GOOD NEWS?! Forza and the next Remedy game is the only thing that keeps me from changing to the PS4.

Not even close.

The OS stuff is incredible. What the fuck kind of joke is Xbone. No wonder MS are being trashed on every front at the moment if they can't even get an OS right.

Wow if true. Luckily for MS COD games benefit more from a stable frame-rate. Also does the PS4 version have dedicated servers? If not then they might just balance out in the end.

If true, I think it speaks more to the rushed nature of the xbox one launch rather than anything else.

I find it hard to believe they wouldn't get COD sorted given it is not anything new. After all, 1080p has been achievable for a long time on pretty modest PCs.

This stuff is getting so tiresome. If you add up what the internet thinks "casuals" and "the average consumer" don't care about, you end up with a group of people who don't care about graphics, don't care about interfaces, don't care about framerate, don't care about paywalls, don't read internet forums, don't read gaming magazines, don't research $500 purchases, and don't talk to their friends. I'm led to believe that there's millions of non-sapient grey blobs wiggling around and accidentally dropping money at Gamestop who somehow make up the majority of gamers.

You're spot on! That's the exact definition of "casuals" & "average consumers".
