Dualshock 4 unboxing

The controller is DirectInput only it seems. We'll need to you x360ce to emulate the 360 controller. Curse Microsoft for creating Xinput. Anyway, I left a comment for him to try to pair to PC with Bluetooth if he has a receiver--really interested to know.
Was there even any advantage to Xinput, and was it not possible to just send a signal saying "yo imma 360" and make everything snap to that rather than 360 or nothing?

Is there even a reason for me to keep my DS4 preorders? I mean, what multiplayer games will we get at launch or even near launch?

Probably the uglist PS controller in the series. Will the touchpad really be used that much in games? Dont need another SixAxis which is hardly used anymore.

At launch I really wouldn't suggest getting more controllers than just the one that comes with the system.

Off the top of my head the only games that you could even use them for are Injustice and Call of Duty Split Screen. EA sports games too I suppose.

Save yourself $60 and get another game, or just straight up save it.

Sucks that you don't already have one laying around but the micro USB connector they are using is pretty much standard on non apple phones (mostly smart phones but I have seen a number of dumb phones that use it), and like every other small device that needs USB now, it pretty much replaced the mini USB that the DS3/PSP etc used completely.
Pretty much every cellphone/tablet device use the same cable (micro usb). Search Monoprice for micro usb cables. That should get you one for fairly cheap. There's always the option of buying the cradle too when it comes out, which is what I plan on doing.

Cool. Thanks guys. It makes sense; I just assumed Micro USB was what the DS3 was using since I have a few Seagate HDDs and something else that used the same cable. I'll have to look into it further.

Will do, thanks.

Nice to see some packaging that I can't cut my hands to shit on while trying to open.

I commented that he could plug in a USB lead and try it with his PS3 like ComputerBild did a few days ago. Upvote me!

Touchpad = Vita TV touchscreen emulation. Also, best feeling PS controller makes it well worth being slightly uglier.

It's just a nice way for Microsoft to corner the controller market. The 360 pad works as DI but it's gimped(no rumble, axis-joined triggers). Hopefully, if the DS4 gains traction it'll swing back to DI. For the time being, x360ce will suffice for modern games.

Yeah but he is one of those weirdos who puts his whole thumb over the analog stick instead of the tips on the centre

I've been noticing this in some of the DS4 previews/reviews. These people are moving the sticks with their knuckles on their thumb instead of the tip. No wonder they felt uncomfortable holding the DS3, they were doing it wrong.

I'm inviting people over on the 16th to play some PS4 at my place, and that necessitated me to look at what games were available with local multiplayer. At the very least there is:

- Call of Duty: Ghosts
- Madden 25
- FIFA 14
- NBA 2K14

I'm not a big NBA guy or Call of Duty guy but I'm getting both of those as I'm sure they'll both be games that my friends will want to play. Plus 2K14 is really the one game that has the next-gen graphics wow factor. I probably would've got FIFA 14, but since that trailer for NBA came out, I decided to get that first.

I might still get FIFA, undecided right now.

Oh right, my bad thanks. The wording doesn't seem to take any notice of PC (or PS3?) support though. Maybe it's nothing.

Didn't even know you could use it with the PS3 but by the sounds of the posts here you can and that's awesome (and a great idea from Sony).

That's because the controller is not supported on PC and PS3...

Sure they both see it as a standard HID controller so you get basic axis and button support but that's it.

Sony will have to release proper drivers if you really want to use it with all the features on pc (sisaxis, rumble, touchepad, etc).

Oh man, it's the sequel to this:

I never really understood the issue people had with their thumbs hitting on the DS3 until I started watching these new videos for the DS4.

It all makes sense now, they were holding the controller wrong.

a downside to the ps4 controller is the triggers have sharp edges which you might start to feel during long play sessions. I don't understand why they didn't round them just a bit.

Yeah, what kind of idiot would put their hands on the handles and their thumbs on the thumb sticks? Such plebians don't deserve the glory and majesty of DualShock!

nice, I like. And since I don't have such massive hands like the guy in the video it'll be even better.

No, that's fine, the problem is whether you grip the handles like a monkey or rest them effortlessly on your palm. If you do that part correctly your thumb position will be fine automatically.

When are the colors coming to NA? And was the grey controller real or a photoshop?

I don't think that Sony has given a date for different colors in the US. And the grey controller is a photoshop. Black, red and blue are the only official colors revealed so far.

I know, I'm just not a fan of that (unintuitive) style of grip even when it's done right. Good thing the DualShock 4 has more substantial shandles while keeping about the same thumb positioning.

He's not holding the controller properly. He's using his thumb joints to move the sticks. No wonder his thumbs are touching.

the touchpad was a genius idea. its like 4/5 extra buttons when needed.

Am I the only guy who liked sixaxis when used subtely?
I kinda liked the killzone use of it with the bombs - sure it doesn't add a lot - or even much but it was kinda cute.

PROBABLY kinda shitty for disabled gamers (Hi BC) but for the rest of us, I kind of liked it.

It would be really nice if the touch pad could be used as a mouse on the PC. Just for getting around menus and what not if you're not in Big Picture mode.

Oh I see, thank you for clarifying. Anyone know if Sony have said anything about their intentions with that?

I think there's a licensing fee to make anything with Xinput compatability, at least to get the drivers signed by MS. So that will put a damper on things. But at least MS probably can't refuse them doing so.

However, we do know that Sony plans to have its game streaming service up, which means they will want a native driver for the DS4 for the PC at some point so people can use the DS4 while streaming games to their PC.
