Forbes Contributor: Reviewers Reporting Frame Rate Problems With 'CoD: Ghosts' On PS4

What I don't understand is, even before we had confirmation from Infinity Ward, there was no shortage of people on twitter who had access to or played both versions, who were saying that Xbox One was 720p, PS4 was 1080p.

Where are those people now to confirm whether or not the Xbox One version shares the frame-rate problems or not?

All COD games output at 1080P on PS3...

always forced 720P, much cleaner look and framerate

Actually all the last gen versions were sub 720p in terms of native resolution, i dont think that upscaling makes too much of a difference in terms of performance, but it probably looked better because it didn't have so much upscaling artifacts.

How is it both the PS3 and PS4 version that has the same problem?

Polygon: ”Much has been said about the fact that the PlayStation 4 version of the game runs at a native 1080p, and while that may be true, the game did struggle to maintain a steady frame rate, especially in hectic multiplayer matches. The PS3 version of the game ran into similar problems, whereas the Xbox 360 version maintained a steady 60 frames per second.”

IGN: “On the current-gen versions Ghosts looks nearly identical, though I did encounter occasional framerate issues during the single-player campaign on PS3 and PS4.”

That makes little sense considering the builds would be drastically different and IW have been coding on the PS3 for what? 8 years now?

If the ps4 has framerate issues is it safe to assume that the Xbone will suffer the same fate?

Maybe IW should have just stuck to current gen for this game.

The nextgen/PC ver sounds like a dog, no pun intended.

One way or another, there's gonna be a huge shitstorm on the 12th when embargoes are up. The only question: "1080p hurts gameplay!" or "Xbone can't even hold 720p!"?

The fact that the PS4 had framerate issues and yet MS STILL wants to keep this NDA going which they had originally extended? That doesn't bode well either.

Ouch...really shows the agenda.
Reputable sites (not Polygon) say that the slowdowns are only in campaign and not during gameplay. I'l say it's all about unoptimization, disk access, CPU stalls, and has nothing to do with GPU load.

What is going on with this title? Poor looking graphics, varying resolutions and frame rates on a cross-gen title, and from many reviews thus far, a generally poor gameplay experience.

So did they entirely phone-in CoD this year? Or have they entirely stopped caring about the quality of the title, figuring it will move copies regardless based on momentum? Is this going to end up falling in line with your Maddens and Fifas as annual games that don't need any real work? Or is this just a fluke this year?

I'm curious to see the future of of CoD. (From a distance of course, as I've long since lost interest in the actual games.)

So if I'm reading this right looks like the higher res Xbone/PS4 version has frame rate problems and the PS360 is playable but dull looking.

So the WiiU version with steady frame rate and improved effects over PS360 is the better console version.

Who would of thought it lol.

EDGE:review "While the PS4 version runs at a native 1080p, that precious framerate drops briefly before checkpoints, which are at least placed so that the odd stutter never affects gunplay."

This makes it sound like it's hitching while searching for trophies or saving or something.

Bare in mind, ALL COD games have had frame rate drops on consoles. Routine drops to 40fps+ are not uncommon in the previous games. Really depends how often these drops occur, why and how severe they are.

Previous COD games were never actually "rock solid" 60 FPS through and through. So this must be noticeable if reviewers are noting it.

Must be fairly rare drops otherwise they'd have put the PS4 version at 900p instead. Frame rate woes were the reason Rubin gave as to why they dropped the Xbox One version's resolution to 720p. So the Xbox One version must have been running at a much worse frame rate compared to the PS4 for them to want to drop the resolution so substantially. Be interesting to see how all the versions fare in the DF comparison.

You think IW would be honest? They we're rushed. They didn't have time to optimize anything. It's obvious to infer this by how poorly everything is running.

PC - Unrealistic spec standards that basically requires raw power to run decently because it wasn't optimized.

Xbox One - 720p because they couldn't optimize it at 1080p without losing 60fps.

PS4 - 1080p but has Frame Rate drops because they couldn't optimize it either.

For all we know the Xbox One version might have Frame Rate drops as well. We won't know till the 12th when the embargo drops.

IW was spread out way to thin for Ghost, even with Never Soft, Sledgehammer, and Treyarch helping they just couldn't have Ghost running fine on all 6 platforms. They targeted 1080p and 60 frames on Xbox One, couldn't hit it because of time constraint. They targeted 1080p and 60 frames on the PS4, and it seems they couldn't hit it either if this is true.

I don't know what the hell happened with Infinity Ward with Ghosts.

Didnt see this coming. Wasnt there some rumor coming out of E3 that PS4 optimization of this game was looking really good? I think I remember 90 fps being tossed around. Well hopefully this gets fixed in an update and doesnt impact XboxOne version as well.

Well going by this MP XB1 footage:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=teejnxOa9jg&feature=youtu.be

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=It26p5M51OE&feature=youtu.be

Both versions seem to have some serious framerate hiccups @ :45 in the first video and 1:15 in the second video. I think the game is just coded like shit on all versions, even PC has some pretty glaring issues.

Now this is MP footage, I don't know how it fares in comparison to SP.

We'll see, BF4 still runs better on PS4 despite the higher res but at 720p I expect this game to deliver solid 60fps, I mean, come on son.
If it runs poorly on PS4 they shouldn't have gone with 1080p.
