It's not a DDoS. You would have heard about it or seen evidence. Their servers are just being swamped.

You know that most of their services are down Outlook, Azure...etc. Even if XBL is swamped, there's now way it can do all this problems for the other MS services.

Im in New Jersey..xbox.com is out and on my 360 i got a message saying " some content is unavailable" No Ads on the homepage but my friends list works and im playing FIFA online..

It's not a DDoS. Microsoft's servers wouldn't be vulnerable to a DDoS, just because of the spread and redundancy. At least not vulnerable to one that regular citizens are able to do.

It's some sort of failure at their DNS server(s) from the looks of things.

If it's only a DNS issue why would xbox live be affected? Afaik the connection is established directly via ip, isn' it?

Any business that relies on Azure to run simulations is going to be PISSED that they were brought down by the launch of a videogame console.

Issues have been apparent for a "A very small number" of accounts the past 24 hours (aka something is wrong but we won't release solid numbers only vague estimates)

Not bitter, just unsweetened
I keep thinking of buying a 2nd X1 just so I don't have to wait but if these issues persist I may go home empty handed :(

Oh boy - if XBL stays down for long periods tomorrow and nobody can get that patch to activate their console, XB1 fans are gonna be PISSED!

What happened to those Gaffers who said Microsoft wouldn't have this problem when it was happening to Sony?

i dont believe that the volume of new xbox live players from new zealand is causing all of azure to go down, so this must just be some unrelated issue. But dat timing...

They stupidly took the Day 1 update off their public host site yesterday too.

Now, nobody can connect to XBL to get the patch that turns their console on.

Unlike the PS4, the XB1 console is almost completely inoperable without that Day 1 patch.

Without the patch, all your console will do is turn on and look for XBL...which isn't online at the moment.

London:
XBL down
Xbox.com down
Office 365 hosted exchange down

I've already notified project team at work that our Azure hosting might be down... and email probably screwed. Sharepoint will work though WHOOPIE. If this lasts through tomorrow it's gonna' be one hell of a day.

Hopefully those offline update files for Xbone can be made available somewhere.
