Exactly.

Yeah, Laketown is due north of and practically on the border of Mordor so OF COURSE there's black people there.

Racist Tolkien OMG!!!!

Looks as though we now have inadvertent confirmation that Bilbo
does put on the Ring at some point during his initial encounter with Smaug - which I know a lot of people were questioning based on the trailers
.

Someone who said they have seen it on the IMDB board answering a bunch of questions (up to you if you believe them or not) said that
Bilbo puts the ring on twice. When he first goes in and sees smaug and another time during their encounter. Apparently most of the time during his encounter with Smaug he has it off though

BTW Smaug looks amazing in that final shot! Holy

Well Laketown is pretty far east so I'm guessing they'll portray it as more of a multicultural city.

actually, it does make sense given that laketown's economy is primarily based on trade going up and down the river. jackson could make the case that the town would serve as a hub for merchants from the surrounding lands, leading to a more diverse population than what's been seen in any of the other films.

I have this weird involuntary reflex where I click on every clip I can even though the first thing my brain tells me when I see one is, "I better not watch this".

Still totally "spoiler free" over here :3. No clips or soundtrack exept the trailers and that one short clip with Gandalf at Dol Guldur that released ages ago. I totally gobbled everything released for TUJ so feels good to go in relatively fresh this time.

Glad to hear that the cinematography is a step up. Because AUJ was severely lacking compared to the original trilogy. So many unnecessary swoops from a guy who I expect unnecessary swoops from.

thanks, watching that jib move on rails is sexy as fuck.
its a damn shame the timing wasn't right for them to shoot on a RED dragon.

You can pretty much guarantee that whatever the heck Jackson makes post-Hobbit trilogy will be shot using Dragons. Shame he put his remake of The Dam Busters on hold :(

When's that motherfucker going to start shooting the Tintin sequel. Give it to Spielberg already. Dude's sitting with his thumb up his arse.

Spielberg seemed pretty optimistic about it still happening last I knew, and Jackson originally said he was going to get the mo-cap done this year - but that likely never happened.

Right now I'm just going to assume that it'll happen next year :/ I wouldn't be surprised if at some point during the press tour of DoS someone prodded Jackson for updates on it.

He was supposed to start the mocop this year for a 2015 release, but his last interview where he discussed what's next for him, he said he would go back to smaller projects.

Dammit Peter.

I wouldn't hold him to his 'smaller projects' statement, he said the exact same thing around the time he was finishing Return of the King - he then went on to do King Kong. The better time to ask him will be when all three films are out and he doesn't have six million things to worry about on a daily basis for a little while. He may very well go back to small films, but you know, "fool me once..." and all that.

One more week. Gotta say my hype has been pretty low. Probably cause I haven't followed much regarding the movie other than the trailers

I wasn't following the films in 2003, but I thought PJ was pretty open about the fact that King Kong would be his follow-up to LOTR? He almost ended up making King Kong back in the late '90s (at the same time that LOTR was in pre-production) before Universal backed out.

I assume the Tintin sequel got pushed back since PJ ended up basically restarting principal photography for The Hobbit instead of just doing regular, minor pick-ups. If he doesn't do that next year he could theoretically start working on Tintin sometime in the spring or summer while also doing post-production for TABA. I think it's more likely he gives the project to Spielberg though.

I'm getting pretty excited to see this.. I have accidentally seen all the main trailers, but otherwise I have skipped tv spots and clips.

Goblin Town is a perfect example of that.

Dead

well not really...yet
The Two Towers had an amazing sense of closure for an actual film, considering it was the middle of the trilogy, while still teasing what was to come.

It was also it's own book, where this movie is only part of a single book. All that said, none of us have seen it yet so there's no real way to know if this criticism is warranted.

loved the production diary, loved the fact the next one's about the music, loved the tweets about the movie, and loved that Cumberbatch/R. Kelly video.

I'm pretty damn hyped. Oh well, I would be even if the reviews were middling - I'm too much of a fanboy to care.

If he and Tom Hiddleston are ever in the same room together I think it would actually cause some women's heads to explode.

literally. Add David Tennant there and the entire world would implode.

Benefit of being at work. :) No speakers on this PC, so I don't even bother clicking videos. Plus, my connection on my phone is terrible here, both data and wifi. If I want to see something bad enough I'll just watch it at home. So it gives me time to think again before spoiling things.

I'll admit, my head would probably explode as well.

Man, a large number of the responses so far keep playing up one specific action set-piece as being particularly amazing/incredible/mind-blowing...can't wait.

Yeah, I'm really curious to know which sequence they're referring to. Hopefully it will be suitably awe-inspiring and thus self-evident when I get to see the film. :)
