"Definitive Edition" the new HD-Remastering of next-gen?

Probably going to be a trend as you said OP. I don't care really. I would get some of them.

TLOU at 1080p/60fps with enhanced graphics is something I would be all over.

Same with Dark Souls, Demon Souls, and Red Dead Redemption.

Nintendo should be doing this to simply fill out the WiiU's barren software cabinet.

Xenoblade Chronicles, Mario Galaxy 1/2, Metroid Prime Trilogy, Zelda Twilight Princess/Skyward Sword, Sin and Punishment SS, and the Last Story are games I would all consider if remastered in 1080p with enhanced graphics.

You're asking Sony to emulate PS3 games at 1080p? Good luck with that.

Do you not care about resolution in your games or something? Bumping the good PS3 games up to 1080p would be worth a lot to me.

The fact that you are sending the message that you'd pay for the same game again only to get a slightly better resolution isn't a good thing. Publishers will see that and see easy money. I'm sure a lot of people think like you. You have to take into consideration they could easily just stretch the current textures to 1080p and call it a day, looking no better than the previous version. But they say 60fps and 1080p as if it matters.

I think this will be a trend with recent releases only. And TR is rather recent. This fills in gaps during the slow first year of a new console. For now it probably works, but later on we'll look back at all this as lousy cross-gen shit.

For 30 I would buy this but at full price i'm not so sure.

Why would they have any reason to stop doing this? I don't think the 60 dollar price point would last, but I could see games like FarCry 3, Bioshock Infinite, and others being released as definitive versions or "game of the year" versions including all DLC

Instead of waiting for an entire console generation they are simply only waiting a year or two.

Since I havnt played the current console version, this seems like a decent deal. I can definitely sympathize with those that already bought it and just want to experiance the 'what if it was on next-gen' version. The cross-buy fee ($10 or so) should be sufficient i think

HD remastered games usually cost $15-$30 a pop.

These "Definitive Versions" costs $60 a pop.

Thanks but no thanks.

I'm expecting they're just testing the waters / trying to exploit new console owners. I don't think it's going to be tough to wait for a price drop on a 'definitive' edition of a game that you have either A.) already played or B.) have avoided for at least a year or so anyways.

I guess to Crystal Dynamics' credit, Tomb Raider is coming out in January where pretty much no other games for PS4 and Xbox One are set to come out.

PC is most definitely the definitive version though. Assuming you have a good enough computer to run it with all the bells and whistles.
Can we really say that yet?

That very well could be the case, but it seems like there will actually be a lot of visual enhancements that aren't available in the original version.

Pretty much.

I hope Tomb Raider bombs hard. I hope it bombs so other developers don't take advantage like these.

Stop buying these games and maybe they'll learn.

Also waiting for Injustice to hit the bargain bin.

I hope too that this won't sell and greenlight other "definitive/complete/special" editions. This is quite a big cashgrab, as they don't have to much. Console architecture is similar to pc, so it's gonna be tempting for some devs/publishers to just press a few buttons and BAM! DEFINITVE VERSION $60!

Well there has to be a first one to start a trend, right?
All I'm trying to say is we don't know for sure they will all be full priced; it isn't a trend yet.

Although given that most "GOTY" or complete editions are usually full priced on release, I guess there's a good chance future Definite Versions will be too. As far as I can tell, Injustice Gods Among Us Ultimate Edition was also full priced on release on PS4. I do agree that it seems unfair, given that we had HD collections with two or more games at lower prices before, but when you frame these as GOTY/Complete editions, it seems more understandable -- or at least, there never seems to be an outrage when those are released at full price.

Idealy the Tomb Raider rip off will not be the norm.

I mean I would be "ok" with $60 for a collection of 1080p'd up last gen games like The Uncharted Collection for $60, Gears of War Trilogy for $60, Arkham Collection for $60 etc.....

Its still a jump from ps2 HD collections which are all mostly $40 but I would be ok with that.

Still I wont ever buy a HD rerelease of a game I already own. Great way to play games I missed but thats about it. FFX HD might be the only time I do buy one I already played.

Most of these would just be "Slightly Closer to PC Edition." Not entirely a bad thing depending on whether you're interested in PC gaming.

something like GTA V i would pay $60 if they fix all the crashes and install problems it had on 360(i was an idiot and was lazy to do the usb stick thing), plus the game was long as hell and had lots to do

something like tomb raider while very fun and a roller coaster of a game, i wouldn't pay $60 since the replay value is pretty bad, one time through is all i needed and i did the optional tombs plus the multiplayer was meh.

really depends on the game, like i assume Rayman Legends will be $60 too

Heh, doesn't make sense releasing any AAA game at less than full price. All a lower price does is lower the brand. If you can't afford it or don't value it, then don't buy it. Problem solved. Plenty of others will though.

I would pay $60 for a "Definitive Edition" of Red Dead Redepmtion, Metroid Prime (yup even just the first game), Demon's/Dark Souls/Dark Souls II, and maybe The Last of Us.

Anything other than that for $60 ain't getting my money money.

3/6 month old games that already were 19 for Black Friday didn't hurt the brand..

40s a fair price. 60s crazy.

It's launching at 60 euro's? BWAHAH FUCK YOU SQUARE ENIX you clueless fucks.

I mean wtf.. it's not even 60fps how can they even call it definitive edition

I hope NOONE purchases this crap. If they do, get ready for a generation of clueless true HD remasters.

I think I am going to bite on this. The new gen console drought is just too much. And even though I've beaten the game on the 360, I need some more of that 1080p goodness!

Yes, I know I am part of the problem...

Guys, I honestly think that these 60 HD remasters are not going to be a trend. The problem is that both Rayman and Tomb Raider were released this year.

As the generation goes on, the prices will decrease.

Just announced: Rayman for $60.

ROFL!!!!! This is going to be a shitty trend. Mark my words!

Do NOT buy into this, please. Don't become part of the problem!

LOL. How is it a problem? Those who think it's worth 60$ will buy it those who don't aren't forced to.

Tomb Raider is an example of how not to do this stuff.

Nobody wants that multiplayer DLC.

Now put out Splinter Cell Blacklist with DLC and I'll bite :) Bring out GTA5, etc.

For multiplatform games I think it'd be dumb as fuck to charge these games over 20 dollars. PC version will still look better, can be had from an amazon or steam sale for 10 bucks, and you won't have to worry about rebuying it all for the PS5 and Xbox Zero.

No chance in hell I'd rebuy last gen games when I bought them all on PC and they look better with even low/mid specs.

Fuck that.

The problem is that both of these actually had PC versions which cost quite a bit less than 60 right now ($40 for Rayman, $50 for TR). And what they're doing is taking these versions, making some small tweaks in them and then trying to sell them for 60 again. This is just beyond stupidity. If they want people to re-buy these games - and most of current XBO/PS4 owners are more than likely to already own them on previous gen h/w - they need to set prices 2-3 times lower than these. Otherwise no one will give a shit.

LOL. How is it a problem? Those who think it's worth 60$ will buy it those who don't aren't forced to.
It's a problem because these two flopping may mean that we won't see more of such ports. And I would actually like to get PS4 versions of titles which weren't released on PC - like Vanquish for example or RDR.

It will never happen but an enhanced BC would be ideal for consoles at least improving resolution and framerate of previous gen games.

This is one reason I want to go PC, and because I missed PC this last gen, I am going to have a blast playing some very cheap old games with better res and performance.
