So The Rock and Roll of Fame released their list for 2014's Inductees. As for this year's class, six groups will be entering the Hall of Fame. Here they are:

  • Nirvana
  • KISS
  • Linda Ronstadt
  • Cat Stevens
  • Hall @ Oates
  • Peter Gabriel
How the final results came to be. Also worth noting is that fans also cast their own votes:

The inductees were chosen by more than 700 voters from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, but fans were also allowed to cast votes online for the artists they believe were the most deserving of induction. Three of the top five artists from the fan ballot will be inducted in 2014.

"This year's Hall of Fame Inductees really capture the passion of the fans," said Joel Peresman, President and CEO of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation.

Fans cast 1.3 million ballots, with the most votes going to KISS (17.2%), Nirvana (15.7%), Deep Purple (11.9%), Yes (10.9%), and Hall and Oates (8.1%). The fan balloting yielded one additional vote for each of those acts.

Overall, there were sixteen nominees this year. Out of the artists that will officially be inducted, these ones were not granted inclusion.

Acts that made the final ballot but did not make the cut for induction are Yes, N.W.A, Chic, the Meters, Deep Purple, the Paul Butterfield Blues Band, LL Cool J, the Replacements, Link Wray and the Zombies.

How many of these are more worthy than those well-marketed douche rockers Kiss...

In all honesty, I have no idea why Deep Purple weren't a shoe in this year. Aside from the mighty Sabbath, I can't think of a band that has had a bigger influence on Metal in its early years (I mean, REALLY early years).

I know nothing of KISS music but I know them when I see them. They must have been very popular and mainstream at one point right? (Isn't that all if takes to make the R&R HOF these days?)

No. Lots of popular bands have never made it. The Moody Blues sold like 70 million records and were popular for about 20 years (late 60s to late 80s). Styx was huge in the '70s and had like 4 platinum records in the row. And both are staples of PBS pledge drives...

KISS was pretty much the Nickelback of their day. People bought records, but most people wouldn't admit to being fans and they were generally looked down on and mocked.

They've become somewhat trendy now because of Family Guy and Gene Simmons's reality TV show.

NWA not getting in just proves that the rap industry needs to push its fledgling HoF more into the mainstream.

Kids loved Kiss and when those kids grew up and became the trendy guys, Kiss had a resurgence. (PS. Kiss definately deserves a place in the hall of fame, PPS I like Kiss)

I never understood why people got bent out if shape over who gets into the HoF. These things are forever, sooner or later you favorite act will get in. They don't just let everyone in at once and people have different tastes. It becomes increasingly irrelevant as the years go by who got in before who. There in, and nothing really changes. People just complain about something else.

NO YES?!?!

I would've been fine with the rest + Deep Purple.

Surprisingly, they still have a huge fanbase. I never got into their music (and I don't really like them) but it still surprises me how many people I know like KISS and go the whole face paint route whenever they do shows here.

Iron Maiden :(

Judas Priest were around before Maiden.

Maiden is still the way better band though.

I believe the voters are mostly American and bands which are known and loved better in UK have much less chance to be inducted: Judas Priest, Deep Purple, Iron Maiden, The Cure, The Smiths, Yes, King Crimson, Jethro Tull, Roxy Music, Duran Duran, Joy Division, Depeche Mode, Def Leppard etc. LL Cool J has higher chance to be inducted than all of these.

I will never understand Rock and Roll Hall of Fame having anyone in it that didn't contribute to Rock & Roll?

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame isn't like the Baseball Hall of Fame. Its meaningless. Every single vaguely relevant rock act will make it in once the "committee" or whatever gets bored. You only need like 3 or 4 popular records to get in.

Those guys will all get in, you just have to wait until there isn't anyone else interesting to perform at the ceremony.

Love them or hate them you just can deny KISS's influence on music. They have numerous "rock anthems" (Detroit: Rock City, Rock N Roll All Night, Beth) and have millions of loyal fans as proven by the fan voting. A lot of those fans are current HoF members and groups in music today.

I have seen them 3 times live in concert and I can say it is a live experience EVERYONE should attend at least once.

I am not a fan, not by a long shot... But if any band ever deserved to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame it is fucking KISS. Fuck the haters.

This is probably the most incorrect statement I have ever seen on the internet.

Chic didn't get in? Surprising as they had a huge effect on disco/r&b music for more than a decade.

Love Gun is a classic rock song, that guitar solo by Ace Frehley is one of the best around. Calling Dr. Love is awesome too.

No way they were the Nickleback of their day, c'mon. They weren't Led Zeppelin or anything, but they were pretty damn good.

Is the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame just music in genera now?. What's rock and roll about NWA?

The committee, or whoever runs this, ruined any point to this years ago.

It doesn't really matter anyway because we're at the point where 90s bands can become eligible, and after the popular grunge bands there's really no one left who would realistically be HoF worthy (maaaaaaybe green day, as much as it pains me to say). Rock music, especially the huge popular band type, flatlined in the 90s and it's practically dead now.

None of this even makes sense. What even classifies someone as being qualified to be in this HOF or not?

KISS is literally a 40 year old band, and their name was on the ballot for the first time this year?

Rap and Hip-Hop artists get in.

If you don't get in now, it is pretty much guaranteed you get in shortly down the road.
