What's your new year's resolution for 2014?

As I posted in the Steam sale thread, I'm not going to buy any more games in 2014. I'll probably break this within a month, but no on keeps resolutions anyways.

Stop buying games unitl I'm ready to play the damned things.

Find the time to do the things I like to do more often than I have this year.

Spend less time on GAF when I'm at home and could be doing other things I want to do.

Spend more time playing games and only buy Steam games if I wanted the game before it was on sale, not after.

Also, I'd like to get a better TV for my consoles.

Support X as much as possible.

To play games properly - from the beginning to the very end. I have this awful tendency to drop games in the 2/3 of main quest because I get bored with the engine. It's time to kill it before it lays eggs.

Also: to zero my baclog from PS3 and buy PS4 :)

1. Lose some damn weight. I'm not fat by any means, but there's been a bit of excess over the past year and I need to buckle down and get back into the game.

2. No more day one purchases. Been burned too many times and made too many poor decisions. I also went from buying 90% of my games on the cheap during sales to reaching the winter sale this year without wanting anything because I bought it all on release.

3. Clear up that backlog while it's still manageable. With the exception of Titanfall, I'm not going to let myself buy anything new next year until I finish everything. Luckily I don't have hundreds of unplayed titles, so it should be pretty reasonable.

4. Learn guitar. I've screwed around with guitars my entire life, and currently own a pretty nice American Tele, but I'm terrible and have never actually tried or practiced. That needs to change.

I started this a few months ago, but I aim to stick to it:

My goal is to only buy games I can get my money's worth from, rather than stuff that looks cool and is never used. I tend to buy more games than I play.

I have like three scripts half done for videos I've wanted to do on YouTube (all gaming related) but I always get distracted or start to feel self conscious of my arguments and leave them on the back burner.

So I resolve to finish writing, film, edit and produce those videos.

Gaming wise:
Complete FF IX and XIII-2

Obtain my first platinum trophy (if anyone knows of one I don't need to play online it would help!

Save for a PS4

Finish the backlog, become free and start actually buying games when they come out and not a few years later. :)

I'm doing my first and maybe only platinum, if you are into RPGs (well you playing FFs...:)), Atelier Totori requires only 1 playthrough to get platinum (OK, I lie, 2 but getting a bad ending is so easy). Just need to use Krystal109's guide on gamefaqs.

Not even considering buying a X1 or PS4 until April at the earliest. I am just starting to do some damage to the backlog. Really want to get it to under 5 games.

1. Buy myself a 3DS (2DS or XL, can't decide :>)
2. Restrain myself from buying games on Day-1/Pre-orders

That's it really, but number two gonna be so freaking hard since there are so many amazing PC games coming in 2014 :)

Not really having any goals. Besides if there's a chance to improve your life you shouldn't be waiting for new years to start to doing it. Just start fucking doing it.

Resolution? Nothing.
But I'd like to buy a PC-FX at a fair/cheap price.
Maybe one day...

Also I need yet to buy a couple of Saturn games, will look forward to them if I can find them for cheap.

Also BD and LM2 for 3DS after I've completed Soul Hackers ( SMTIV and DQVII too if they will ever release in Europe).

EDIT:
Less time reading about games (GAF) and more time playing them
Oh well this could be a good resolution.

Stop buying and playing games just for the sake of it. I've got into a bad habit lately (thanks to you most especially, Steam sales) were I've been picking up loads of games that look mildly interesting cos they were cheap and then determining myself to make sure I play them all.
I've played so many games lately like this and it needs to stop. I've recently done way too many games that were merely average to decent just cos they were cheap.

Also, I must try DOTA 2.

I did do pretty well in my new years gaming resolutions last year though: to play more indie and less AAA games, clear my backlog and wait more for sales :)

Gaming wise, just one really. Finally work my way through all the Falcom titles I have. Especially finish my Kiseki series marathon play though I've slowly been going through.

For gaming finish games that I have. Specifically on PS4 where I've been in a trophy hunting mood. Started a fresh account when I got my ps4 and I have gotten platinum in Resogun and Ghosts so far. We'll see how long it lasts, but it's been fun so far.

Sell old games I don't care about, and stay really focused and only buy a new game if I'm going to play it right then and there and it's personally interesting to me.

Spend less time on NeoGaf, more time playing games. I seriously waste way too much time just lurking forums etc, when I could be playing more games. Or even being productive in general. But that starts bleeding away from the game related stuff.

I also want to finish more games (I usually look at backloggery and try to pick a percent to get the unfinished count down to. For years it was 60, now I'm still below that. Maybe I'll go for 58? Might be too drastic.)

I want to learn to play some fighters. MvC and KoF seem really fun to me, but I'm utter trash at them. I don't even have a grasp of the basics. I'd like to learn MK9, Injustice, SF3/4, and Tekken as well. And I want to get better at Melee. I'm decent there, but still below average for sure, and always wanting to improve.

I think it'd also be fun to get into some casual speed running. I know I won't be touching any records or races, but it still seems like it'd be fun to time myself and then compete against my own times. It takes some effort though, not sure if I have the time or patience.

2014

  • To actually follow through with publishing an indie platformer, giving it the year(s) work necessary and not settling for generic copycats.
  • Embrace the competitive Smash 4 scene. (I never participated in either the Melee or Brawl scenes, despite being--shamelessly speaking--extremely good at the series.)
  • Quit Dota 2--and all general MOBAs--for good; no genre causes me to rage like this has, and it's been an unpleasant experience all-around for both me and my teammates.
  • Fill my 3DS library and finally get to playing games that are long past due (Luigi's Mansion 2, Fire Emblem: Awakening, etc.).

And that's it, in regards to gaming.
Happy New Year's, everyone! GL;HF. :)

Gaming resolutions

-Get back to playing Beatmania IIDX regularly
-Pick a non-Arcana Heart 3 fighting game to become decent at
-Continue to aggressively import and complete Vita games

Keep trying new things (rather it be places, food or experiences)
Make an effort to see more local showings (music, theater etc)
Get back into my daily jog routine

They aren't even really resolutions since i have been working on all of these for about 2-3 months now but i might as well lump it in the dreaded resolution list. I don't like new years resolution for the fact that when i do partake i end up setting myself up for failure with unreal expectations. Take smoking, for 15 years that was my resolution (and im sure many peoples resolution this time around and im sure most people wont quit) i found the trick to quitting is to stop bullshitting yourself with "ill quit next monday, ill quit on the first, ill quit on my vacation" and just quit. If you just crave the nicotine but don't want all those chemicals just switch to e-cig, it's a much, much more healthier option and a lot of people quit with them. I went with patches (3 days then cold turkey).
