Another nail in WiiU's coffin. I wonder how many other retailers will dump the WiiU in 2014.

just been there, didn't get one, don't feel too down by it, i actually see it as 99€ saved from an impulse buy

this cements 1 thing for me : if the Wii U gets priced right (at least under 200€ for bundles with game included), there is a market for it, otherwise it will fail totally

Lol. It's promotion for the bi-monthly sales period in one store from a chain.

But keep fucking that chicken, I guess.

I don't know, I kind of agree with him. I think a lot of stores will do the same thing if Mario Kart and Smash don't have the desired effect.

If it was a chain wide thing to eliminate stock I would agree. But this is anything but.
It's a very limited promotion to lure in customers. They do it all the time with all kinds of stuff.
Heck they discount Apple products by hundreds of Euro's at times. I don't think that spell doom for MacBooks. ;)

Just came back from it. I was just on time before it opened, but there were around 200 people already waiting. (I heard people saying some were waiting for around 4-5 hours in line before the opening)

Looks like there were around 30 units, so a lot of running, pushing, tackling old people, crying and screaming was the consequence for trying to get one. I saw a woman who couldn't walk decently anymore, probably bruised her ankle because someone tackled her. (I heard her saying that)

Tons of commotion, disappointment and people were staring and looking in disbelief how everything happened.

If you want to know how it went, just look at any PS4 launch movie or gif in Germany and you can apply it to the Meda Markt in Hasselt. Media Markt is a sadistic chain who likes these kind of promotions and things. (I don't like it at all tbh, all the disappointment and savageness of it is disgusting if you think about it)

tl;dr: 30 units of Wii U sold out in a couple of seconds, probably more than this week in the rest of the country (couldn't resist, sorry :p). A lot of drama. Belgium = the new Germany confirmed!

edit2: No, I didn't manage to get one. I don't want to get hurt for something I have already :p

I think it's too early to call that and slightly misguided (it's just a promotion after all). :)
Let's wait for the numbers and see how Nintendo performs in 2014 with its titles.

Ha, there's still hope for Nintendo I guess :p

I went to the toy store next to it afterwards to see if they had any promo's too. They have a lot of games etc. There were two couples who bought a Wii U Premium with NSMB and NSLU for €283, because they couldn't get one at the MM. I guess all hope is not lost :)

You sound like someone stuck in the past. Let go of the classics and give new games a chance. ZombiU fills the horror slot on Wii U.
So you are telling me zombiu is on the same level as a re4? I was not trying to discredit the Wii u, all I was trying to say is that I don't think that the current library of the console together with the grim looking future of the system is worth the price they are trying to charge for this.

Yeah fair call, after all they are dumping PS4 and Xbox One stock regularly too,...............
.................
..
.
You really have no idea what you are talking about do you. lol

The Xbone isn't even released in the country yet and you can't find a PS4 on shelves anywhere.

If that makes you sleep well at night, I guess you can call it that.

So to be clear. You think a major retailer dumping stock of WiiU so that you will no longer be able to buy a WiiU from that retail chain again is okay for Nintendo?

I saw someone buying a Wii mini before Christmas. I should've stopped him. It's my biggest failure.

Yeah just what I expected, like EVERY other mm story I have ever been in or heard of.
So sad for people who waited 5+ hours MM does not give a single fuck, and if it was a "good" store they would orgaize these events and just give out numbers untill it was sold out.

Thank you so much for the report though.

What are you even talking about at this point?
It's the start of the solden period. (bi-yearly sales).
A time where stores do crazy discounts to lure customers to the shop and sell shit after the holiday period.
This is one store, not the full chain and on top of it, it was a certain amount which was reserved to be sold at that price.

This is not an attempt to get rid of their inventory and dump the product to never stock again. It can't be that hard to comprehend. :-/

Oh god, could that have gone any further over your head? lolllllllllllll

Guess not, but can you blame me. Just look above at what I have to work with. :p

So what other reason(s) do they have to sell them at 100 euros according to you?
Because that is what Media Markt does, quite frankly. It's even not Media Markt as a whole, but just a single shop.

It's quite common for them to have one or two crazy sales on something (be it electronics, blu-rays, games, whatever). Nothing "spectacular" like clearing stock.

Clearly I've got the wrong end of the stick with the article in the OP.

On the other hand, the only time I've seen retailers sell stuff that is when they are dumping stock.

Nah, it's a semi-regular thing they do here.
It sure is one heck of a bargain, I have to admit.
But knowing the store, I wouldn't be surprised if they only had 50 or even 100 units to sell at this price.

Like I said, this tactic is used quite often with all kinds of products.
From TVs to phones and just about anything you can imagine.
Just a way to get word of mouth going and get as many people into a certain store as possible since they have a higher chance of picking something else up as well.

Media Markt still sells Vitas after they sold the WiFi models for 99 euros back in early 2013 in Germany, so I don't think this'll be any different.

They had 20 Wii Us? The local Media Markt here has 2.

2!! They have more Ouyas than Wii Us, and no it is not because the Wii U is always sold, they didn't restock since october

99 euros for a Nintendo console that's been out little over a year. That's insane. That's just pure desperation in a price.

In other news: Indesit going out of business! Grab their washing machines while you still can!

lol :D

Also, to those who think MM isn't going to restock it. There were no other bundles in store today (probably took them back to the stockroom to 'protect' them), so you can be pretty sure they'll have the WW/LEGO City/NSMB bundle in store tomorow. :)

Even more shocking, I can order a Wii U Premium for €254 and pick it up right now @ MM Hasselt via their site http://www.mediamarkt.be/mcs/produc...(2300132),98952,453508,667011.html?langId=-17 I think this is enough proof of how Media Markt likes to do stunts with limited stocks of a specific device.

Yep. Business as usual. :)

I'm actually thinking of picking up a Wii Mini from their nl online shop.
They are going for €79 right now. More for collectors purposes than anything else.
After picking up a second PS3 last week and another Vita a couple of months ago, I might as well not even bother checking my bank account and just go for it. ;)

Converts to about 135 USD. It would have to come with Mario 3D World at that price for me to buy. It's completely dead in Europe, isn't it? That's insane. EU is the 1st or 2nd largest market?

People are never satisfied, are they. Even at this bargain price, you want another game with it? o_O

It has been said a lot of times in this thread, but this is just a local promo and stunt, rather than really clearing out stock etc. Also, don't generalize these things to the whole EU market. It's the same thing as looking at UK sales and then calling it EU sales etc.

Kudos to Phazon for trying go get me one.

I honestly didn't expect that many people, but in the end it's not that much of a surprise given the price. I really can't blame you for not jumping in the pile of people and fighting your way to one. I've seen the PS4 gifs from Germany so I really can't blame you :p

I'll get that Wii U one day, Phazon... W101 is waiting :(
