Because they're MUCH more expensive than Blockade/Rainmaker and the movies would need in the range of a 100M budget and be a lot more successful at box office to be profitable. Simple as that.

It's hard to believe this is actually going to show in theaters. I can't imagine who is going to want to see this. And I say this as a Sly fan. I can't help but imagine this is going to be a cheap 3rd tier cg movie.

This is my sentiment. Sly Cooper is pretty good stuff to tap for a movie/shows/etc... but good lord Murray looks frightening. Sly looks alright, though I wish they didn't go for the "realistic" look to the fur.

I like Murray's design. He is an overweight hippo and it was odd he had no double chin in the games lucky the movie fixed that.

I think a middle ground in styles like the 2008 Prince of Persia game could have worked better. But we will see.

Of course he does, I mean its not like they have only shown a trailer for the Ratchet and Clank movie, looking just as good as the games and also seems to have the same level of humour too. Why don’t you think the film looks like straight to Styrofoam trash, huh, huh?!?! Its clear how crap its gonna be.

People just love to hate on things, its getting pretty tiring reading it about different things to be honest. Sly to me looks great but I will echo what everyone else has said, what the hell did they do to Murray? Why did they feel the need to change him? Other than that im looking forward to seeing what they have.

hopefully he's voiced by someone different. it's the only thing i hate about the sly games, the voice actor for sly is the most uncharismatic, unenthusiastic sounding guy ever.

I stated this from the last thread but
man such a lost opportunity in not using the current design models... They decided to stick with it for the Ratchet and Clank movie I hope they decide to go back and do the same for the Sly Cooper one

I also hope Sucker Punch has a hand in this

Sly's Dreamworks face is really unappealing. The whole thing is really... ugly. I think I would have enjoyed this as a traditional animation.

Holy shit, Murray looks terrifying.

Ratchet seems better from premise and what we've seen so far (which isn't a lot, i know). But i'll keep an eye on it...

I think the problem with most games to movie adaptions is that there isn't usually a market for this specific IP. Movies in general these days need to make a tremendous amount of money to be considered successful.

Though, believe there is a market for video game movies, just getting a sour end of the stick for the time being. I remember the in 90's most comic book movies were looked at the same way.

I have got a mixed feeling about this. Excluding Murray, the rest of the cast looks decent enough. I love Sly so i am definitely excited for this movie.

When will the trailer go up officially?

These movies seem like Sony is testing the waters. They aren't that expensive and a good way to see if these things are viable for the big screen. If they are successful then Sony pictures will be all over this for it's sequels.

Serious question, but was Sly Cooper that popular of a character to warrant a movie? No snark here as am genuinely curious as I dont watch the western gaming scene as much, but am familiar with this character. Just did not know that he was this popular.

I think this is the whole point of these movies, getting them to be more popuplar. Kids love CGI movie characters more than anything, this is the best chance for the Sony to make those guys more recognizible.

I think the Murray from the games is one of the worst designed mascot characters ever. Rare mid-90s bad. Like, Barney the Dinosaur bad.

That said, the movie design also look bad. I guess there's only so much you can do with a purple hippo. >_>

I don't know about his popularity, but the characters themselves are well designed and developed through the games, and they poke around problematic themes (disability and obesity) as well as classical positive ones (friendship and teamwork) making them basically perfect from a storytelling point of view. In other words: they are winning characters that can (and did) push a franchise marred by very questionable gameplay choices, so why not make a movie over them?

WTF happened to Murray? Edit: saw the trailer, Murray redeemed.

Looks cheap. I also don't like realistic take on everybody except Sly. It can be fun, but Murray already looks dumb before, now he looks awful.
